I just ate there and it was disgraceful for the price. horrible service, bad steak, uhhhh, just a waste of money. friendly notice, do not go here.
Huh...I've always loved Ruth Chris. Sorry you had such a bad experience.
I driven by the Portland location a thousand times, and it's been there for years. I've never been, and I've heard both stories about the place.

The one I used to go to was excellent 15-20 years ago. It seems as if it has gone down hill. We don't go anymore. Just not worth all that $.
Ruth's Chris is way over-priced. But, I like their shrimp cocktail.

Well just because you had one server give you bad service dosen't mean that the whole place has bad service. I work in the industry and maybe the server just sucked, or maybe they were in the weeds, or maybe you did something that you might not have thought about that ticked them off (like when someone orders 3 diffrent drinks at the same time like when someone gets a beer, a water, and a coke I don't know why but that urkes me maybe because do YOU REALLY NEED 3 DIFFRENT DRINKS) but more than likely you server was new because Ruth Chirs is a corporate restaurant their turnover rate is always ridiculous. So the moral here is go to locally owned places and don't order 3 diffrent drinks at the same time :D

Oh Steve, sorry you had such a bad experience.
My husband and I LURV steak, but don't really like going out to eat one...it usually feels like a waste of money as we can cook it usually better than wherever we might go. But I have to say that the porterhouse steak we got at RuthsChris was, hands down, the BEST steak we had ever had. It was cooked to utter perfection and seasoned perfectly. Plus the service was superb. It was $$$$$$$, but cheapies that we are, we still felt like it was worth it.
I still think about that steak when I'm with other steaks.

We went to the Ruth's Chris in San Diego a few months ago. I had a gift card from my boss (for $100). Our bill, plus tip, came to $200. The service and food were excellent and it was worth the money even though I only had to pay for half of it. :)

We have a Morton's Steak house & A Ruth's Chris steak here. We've tried both and while both place have fabulous steaks & side dishes We really prefer Ruth's Chris.
My husband & I usually each get a salad and a side dish each and we spilt a steak. With a cocktail/glass of wine (or two each) we usually spend a little over $100.00. But we only go out to dinner at either of those places for special occcasions.
When we make reservations we are usually asked if we are celebrating a special occasion and we always say yes it's out anniversary or birthday or whatever. We've always been comp'd a nice dessert to share which is really a nice touch that you usually only get at these pricey-er restaurants.

I'm Sous Chef at one of the top 10 steakhouses in New England. We dry-age our own beef in a special cooler. It's very expensive to do and has been one of the trends for many years. It's been a little more publicized lately. (the whole dry age thing) So I'm very intrigued by "high end" steakhouses. Living in Vermont , I don't make a lot of $$$$$ but I do OK. And they're aren't ANY of those kind of places around, except for my place. The locals FREAKED when we upped our Porterhouse to $38!! I tell people that the very same steak would cost you $80 in NYC. Any hoo....
I was visiting my bro in Nashville, Tn. a few years ago. He's Executive Chef at a very ritzy country club down there. And I insisted we go to Ruth's Chris. (cuz I knew it was $$$$$ and he makes 6 figures) We had a short wait, and enjoyed cocktails at the bar. FUN...( I was on vacay) when we were seated ( 3 of us ) we noticed the chef making his rounds thru the dining room , you know, schmoozing the guests. So we introduced ourselves as fellow chefs and my bro produced his business card. (his wife-btw- is regarded as the BEST pastry Chef in Nashville)
Mabey it was professional courtesy, but we were treated as VIP's and had one of the best meals of our lives. And that's saying a lot given our career choice, all we do is eat fine food. The bill came to well over $300 , but we like to get our drink on.........so...again, great time!!
