Few things I noticed about Numbers relating to Hurley.

His mother said he was "gaining weight again"

He was well known on the psych ward at the hospital.

Could he have been in for treatment for bulimia (HURLING)

Looked for other threads on this and couldn't find anything.

I don't think his mother would point out his weight gain if he had just been released from a mental hospital to take care of his bulimia. That's counteractive.

well she is his mother. Not all are very helpful.
Could be part of the reason he became bulimic in the first place.

I'm just saying if he was living with her because he needed help to overcome his bulimia she wouldn't point out his weight gain.
Nor would he be eating a bucket of chicken or working at fast food restaurant.

Besides I don't think you go to mental hospitals for bulimia/anorexia, I think there are special places designed for that sort of thing.

Depends on what type of health care you have actually.

And his mother was meddling in asking if he was watching the aerobics show that he skipped past.

Just speaking as someone who's been there and seeing certain things.

I'll make you a deal. If it turns out that Hurley was/is bulimic (Highly unlikely this isn't 90210 here) then I will eat my shoe.

Also, I wanted to add, his name is really Hugo, and he said a lot of ppl nicknamed him "Hurley", could be hurling? Dunno, haha!

Hurley is also a brand of skateboards. Maybe he was the shotput star of his high school track team. I doubt anyone would call someone who was bulimic hurley. That makes it more of a mean nickname then a nice nickname. Are we forgetting the delicate mental state of a bulimic?

Hurley specific - moving to his forum.

There's a somewhat parallel thread on Hurley's weight (http://p073.ezboard.com/flosttheunofficalforumfortheabcseriesfrm11.showMes sage?topicID=3.topic) here - you may want to read it too.

Maybe Hurley got his nickname from the word "hurlyburly" which is defined. disturbance: a disorderly outburst or tumult. We saw in "Numbers" that Hurley can be down right demanding if he wishes.
Maybe there was a disorderly outburst in the mental hospital?

Yes, because so many people use the phrase "HurlyBurly" these days.
