I have cable internet with a modem. It just has the one cable hookup going from the modem to my computer. I want to be able to have a tv hoked up too. Do I need to buy a router for that or is there some way to route a tv through my tower? I am not all that tech savvy.
All you need is a cable splitter. If you call your cable company they will usually give you one for free, or just go to a place like radio shack, staples, best buy, etc and ask for a cable splitter. then, you will need 2 short cables, 1 to go from the splitter to the modem, and 1 to go to the tv.
That's how I have the cable setup in my house. It comes into the splitter from the street, then out of the splitter to the cable modem and television separately.

Ahh!! Thank you guys!! Now I will be able to watch tv and post at the same time!
Make sure you get a splitter that's rated for your service, though. The wrong splitter can have an undesirable effect.

Oh Oh, I already bought one, how do I tell if it's rated for my cable service?
If you call them, they'll probably tell you that it's not. They might not even give you the correct specification. Hook it up and try it out. If your TV signal is crappy or your internet service is poor, then you have the wrong one.
