Okay, so since there seems to be a dip in the action around here, figured I might as well get some speculation going.
What do you think happened that broke up Driveshaft?
Judging from Charlie asking Liam to get back with the band, I think we can safely assume it wasn't he who called it quits.
That leaves a number of possibilities...
Maybe Liam finally realized he had a problem and called it quits himself, maybe he quit because of his daughter and/or wife, maybe the label the band signed with was sick of a bunch of junkies and fired them, maybe their performance really went downhill.
As you can see there are a lot of options, and I'm sure there are more than just what I've listed here. What do you all think?

We can assume it happened after his daugher's birth because he said he missed it. Perhaps the mother (who I'll bet wasn't the wife at the time) gave him an ultimatum. If so, I have to give him credit for taking it. My bet is Liam only recently got his act together. I did wonder though how he managed to get to Australia and what he did there.

"No one wants to be 23."
Does anyone remember who put that line in a song? 8)

Didn't one of the flashbacks in the Moth indicate Charlie was the creative force of the band? If so, their music probably suffered as he sank deeper into addiction. After tasting success the band probably resented losing it and may have turned on one another, resulting in the bands demise. It looks like Charlie tried to continue on his own, but it wasn't working out. The work he was offered required Driveshaft, so he went to Australia to see Liam, and the rest is history.

I'm surprised that Liam gave up his addiction for his daughter/wife. Addiction takes over a person's life and makes a person make judgement calls based on there addiction. I think that this shows something in Liam's character in that the drug/girls/rock lifestyle did not have complete control over his life. He was still able to realize what was important.

There is definitely more to the story here. It's entirely possible that Liam was on the verge of total self-destruction when he was pulled back by something. For most addicts, it takes a near-death situation to realize what they are doing to themselves. Maybe Liam almost died of an overdose and realized the importance of staying alive for his daughter's sake.

I think that Liam was the one to walk away... Maybe he went through rehab, saw how he had been when he looked at Charlie, and couldn't take it?
Or maybe Charlie got kicked for the same reason, but they weren't the same without him?
If a former addict looks at someone who's still using, especially someone close to them, and they see how the things that they did hurt the ones they love, they can't stand it. I definitely think that had something to do with it.

Liam could have gotten busted and been forced to sober up - jail time could wreck the band too and require Charlie to go at it alone.
