The Character Walkthrough of Naomi Dorrit
Naomi Dorrit is a helicopter pilot, and a highly skilled operative with military experience. Though born in Manchester, England, she speaks at least five languages: English, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. She is a trusted employee of Charles Widmore, tasked with leading one part of an expedition to the island, in order to locate and capture Benjamin Linus.
Sometime Between 11/27/2004 and 12/14/2004
A Covert Operation
Sometime after a listening post employed by Penelope Widmore detects a massive electromagnetic discharge in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean, and the apparent wreckage of Oceanic 815 is found in an ocean trench, Naomi Dorrit is hired to participate in a covert operation financed by Charles Widmore. To those participating, the mission is billed as a "search and recovery." The objective is to find Lost Island, and recover/extract Benjamin Linus from that island. One of her first tasks, is to recruit a giften spiritual medium named Miles Straume:
5.13 Some Like It Hoth
[Naomi approaches Miles as he is leaving a client's residence]
NAOMI: Excuse me. Miles Straume.
MILES: Yeah.
NAOMI: Hi, my name is Naomi Dorrit.
[Naomi hands Miles a business card.]
NAOMI: My employer's been following your work for some time now and he's interested in retaining your rather unique services. [Miles says nothing] There's a restaurant not to far from here. Would you like to hear what I have to say?
Miles goes with Naomi to the restaurant in question, where their conversation continues.
[The click of a light switch is heard and a light slowly turns on: It is a storage area in the back of the restaurant.]
MILES: You did say you were taking me out to dinner.
NAOMI: No, I said I was taking you to a restaurant.
[They walk thru a room full of supplies to another room.]
MILES: You wanna tell me what's back here, sweetheart?
NAOMI: Your audition.
[They stop at a metal table next to a sink. There is a body bag on it, which Naomi unzips.]
MILES: Look, whatever you have going on here, this isn’t really my thing.
NAOMI: From what I understand Miles, if the price is right this is exactly your thing.
[Naomi tosses Miles a wad of money. Miles looks at it.]
NAOMI: So what can you tell me about this man?
[Miles puts the money in his jacket pocket and walks toward the body.]
MILES: [trance state]His name's Felix. He's on his way to deliver something to a guy named Widmore.
NAOMI: Deliver what?
MILES: A bunch of papers, photos, pictures [pause] of empty graves, a purchase order [pause] for an old airplane.
[Miles puts his hands to his eyes while Naomi zips the body bag closed.]
MILES: So, I pass?
NAOMI: I'm leading an expedition to an island and on the island is a man that will be very difficult to find. That's why I need you.
MILES: Need me for what?
NAOMI: This island has a number of deceased individuals residing on it. And as this man is responsible for their being deceased, we believe they can supply invaluable information as to his whereabouts.
MILES: Much as hunting down a mass murderer sounds really safe, um I'm, I'm gonna pass. Thanks for the audition.
NAOMI: My employer is willing to pay you one point six million dollars.
MILES: When do we leave?
Later, during the planning stages of the mission, Naomi is called in to meet with Matthew Abaddon, to be briefed on the details of the "science team" being attached to the operation. Naomi is not pleased at their inclusion.
4.02 Confirmed Dead
[Abaddon places four photographs on a table. Daniel, Miles, Charlotte and Frank]
NAOMI: So this is the team.
MATTHEW: You familiarised yourself with their profiles?
NAOMI: Unfortunately, yes. With respect, these are the wrong people for a mission like this. None of them have field experience, military training.
[Naomi Dorrit and Matthew Abaddon stand in an otherwise deserted office floor]
NAOMI: You can't just drop them in unprotected. It'll be a disaster.
MATTHEW: They're not unprotected, they have you.
NAOMI: There's only so much I can do.
MATTHEW: Your modesty is positively charming.
NAOMI: This is a high risk covert op in unstable territory. It's dodgy enough without having to babysit a head case, ghost buster, anthropologist and a drunk.
MATTHEW: To be fair he's also a pretty good pilot.
NAOMI: It's madness. What if we find survivors from 815?
MATTHEW: There were no survivors.
[Naomi gives Abaddon a meaningful look]
NAOMI: I know, but what if there are survivors...
MATTHEW: There were no survivors of Oceanic 815. Don't ask questions, just do what you were hired for. Every member of this team was selected for a specific purpose, everything relies on you, getting them in, getting them out, and preventing anyone from getting killed. Think you can do that?
NAOMI: Sure. Why not.
Naomi and other mission personnel are transported to Fiji, where they board The Kahana, a 150-foot supply freighter owned by Charles Widmore, and captained by Huston Gault. The freighter is equipped with two helicopters for the mission, as well as a mysterious safe which can only be opened by Captain Gault and Martin Keamy, head of the "security team" tasked with taking Linus into custody and escorting him back to the mainland. Upon arrival in Fiji, Naomi takes charge of greeting other arriving mission personnel, and assigning them berths aboard the vessel.
4.08 Meet Kevin Johnson
(Naomi finishes up checking in another crewmember coming aboard.)
NAOMI: Okay. You're good to go. Thanks.
(The other crewmember boards the ship. Michael steps up.)
MICHAEL: Uh... I'm reporting for duty. Kevin Johnson.
(Naomi checks her manifest.)
NAOMI: Naomi Dorrit. Pleasure. So you're from the States, yeah?
MICHAEL: New York.
NAOMI: Yeah, I could tell from the accent.
MICHAEL: Manchester?
NAOMI: How'd you guess? You can head onboard. Oh, uh, one of these crates was delivered for you.
(Naomi indicates a medium-sized wooden crate with "KEVIN JOHNSON" stenciled across it. It's locked with a padlock.)
NAOMI: I'll have it delivered to your berth?
MICHAEL: Yeah. Thanks.
NAOMI: Welcome aboard, Kevin.
(Men are calling orders around the ship as Michael steps aboard. Talking on his phone, Michael watches as Naomi admits another crewmember.)
NAOMI: You can stow your gear downstairs, all right? Welcome aboard, Keamy.
A few days later, The Kahana is on its way to the coordinates of the disturbance. Naomi is talking to Frank Lapidus, the only other helicopter pilot on board.
(The Kahana motors through an endless expanse of ocean as the sun gets low in the sky. Michael leans over a railing on the deck, studying the horizon. He overhears a distant argument between Naomi and Frank.)
NAOMI: Sorry, Frank, but I'm going first and that's all there is to it.
FRANK: No offense, but I was flying these things when you were still in grade school. If anybody's gotta go first, it should be me.
NAOMI: Yeah, I need you here to transport the science team, Frank.
FRANK: What the hell are you gonna be doing?
NAOMI: That's need-to-know. You don't.
(She turns and steps through a central door, shutting it behind her.)
The next few days pass uneventfully, as The Kahana continues towards its destination. Keamy and his "security team" pass the time "shooting things." Finally, the freighter arrives in the general area, approximately 80 nautical miles from the coordinates they were given. Widmore's people are wary of an unusual barrier of electromagnetic radiation that surrounds the island, and can make it dangerous and unpredictable to approach unless using a precise magnetic compass bearing. Naomi's first mission objective is to land on the island with a special satellite phone, and activate a tracking signal. Daniel Faraday, a member of the science team, will then use that signal to calculate the proper magnetic bearing so additional trips to and from the island can be made with less risk.
Naomi takes off in one of the helicopters to conduct a differential GPS grid search of the coordinates. All she takes with her is a pack containing the satellite phone, a flare gun, a Portuguese edition of the novel "Catch-22," a packet of beef stew, a nutra fruit bar, a hula doll (?), and a picture of Desmond Hume and Penelope Widmore (presumeably to give credence to her cover story).
3.19 The Brig
NAOMI: I was flying back for the ship when all of a sudden the clouds cleared and I saw land.
Naomi's helicopter then began to suffer engine failure, and rapidly lost power.
NAOMI: The instruments started spinning, I realized I was going down so, I grabbed my chute and I bailed.
Day 85: 12/15/2004
A Rough Landing
3.17 Catch-22
Naomi's helicopter crashes in the ocean off the coast of the island just before dawn, but Naomi successfully deploys her parachute, and drifts over land. She comes down hard through some trees, and a branch stabs her in the gut and punctures her lung. Her chute gets tangled, and she ends up hanging suspended over the jungle floor.
[Desmond and Charlie run over. They find a parachutist stuck in the trees, the chute stuck in the branches]
JIN: [Speaks in Korean]
HURLEY: Hey! Hey, can you hear me?
JIN: Hello! [Speaks in Korean]
HURLEY: Dude, she's not moving.
DESMOND: I'm sorry Penny. I'm sorry.
[Desmond climbs the tree to release the caught parachutist. He cuts free the chute, and the others catch it. Charlie, Hurley and Jin spread out the chute as a net to catch the parachutist. Desmond cuts the strings, and Naomi drops into the chute. She stirs...]
HURLEY: She's alive!
[Desmond rushes toward them]
DESMOND: Stand back! Get away from her! I'm here, I'm here Penny.
CHARLIE: Jus, be careful.
DESMOND: Just get off, Charlie. Sorry Penny, I'm sorry.
[Desmond pulls off the helmet to reveal Naomi]
NAOMI: Desmon...
[She stops moving and her eyes close]
3.18 D.O.C.
[In the jungle, Desmond, Charlie, Hurley and Jin crowd over the injured parachutist as she groans]
JIN: Who is she?
DESMOND: I've no idea.
HURLEY: She seems to know you dude, she just said your name.
DESMOND: I've never seen her before in my life.
[Naomi begins to cough]
CHARLIE: She's waking up.
NAOMI: [Speaks incomprehensibly]
HURLEY: She's trying to talk. We should get her some water.
DESMOND: [To Charlie] Give me a hand.
CHARLIE: Yeah.
[They lift the woman up]
NAOMI: [Speaks Spanish - “I am dying. I am dying”]
CHARLIE: What's she saying?
DESMOND: Don't know.
HURLEY: It's Spanish dude.
DESMOND: Wait, you understand her then?
NAOMI: [Speaks Spanish - `”I am dying. I am dying. I am dying”]
HURLEY: She says she's dying.
[Charlie and Desmond pull back some of her clothes to reveal a large wound on her chest and a foreign object]
DESMOND: Oh god!
CHARLIE: It's a branch. She must have hit it on the way down.
DESMOND: Right, get her pack! We haven't got much in this first-aid kit. See if there's anything we can use in there.
HURLEY: What if this is a rescue? What if she came for us? Wha, I mean, is she gonna be OK, we can't let her...
DESMOND: [Interrupting] Just go and start looking!
JIN: We get Jack. Jack.
CHARLIE: We have to get her to Jack as soon as possible. She could be our way off the Island.
DESMOND: No if we move her it'll make it worse.
CHARLIE: Well we just let her bleed to death?
DESMOND: No we, we need to bring Jack here.
CHARLIE: Its an eight hour walk, one way!
DESMOND: Then I'll run.
CHARLIE: You out of your mind? Its not safe. Its gonna be dark soon, who knows whose out in this jungle, in case you haven't forgotten, there are people on this Island trying to kill us.
DESMOND: Nobody knows we're here!
[They are suddenly interrupted by Hurley, who accidentally shoots a flare gun. The flare flies up high into the sky and explodes. Charlie, Desmond and Jin turn]
HURLEY: Oops.
[Several minutes pass]
NAOMI: [Speaks Mandarin Chinese – “What's going on?”]
HURLEY: What's she saying?
JIN: Chinese. Not Korean.
CHARLIE: Maybe we should just pull it out.
DESMOND: No you'll just make it worse.
CHARLIE: Have you forgotten what's at stake here? Just another one of your flashes, whose getting an arrow in the neck this time.
DESMOND: Lest you forget. She said my bloody name. She had a photo of me and my girlfriend. Do I understand? I understand better than the lot of you!
HURLEY: Hey, guys, chill.
DESMOND: We've wasted enough time already.
CHARLIE: You're not leaving us.
DESMOND: Just get out my way, Charlie.
CHARLIE: No.
[They hear rustling in the trees. Mikhail runs out in front of them and stops. He stares at them, and then turns and runs. Jin chases after him]
DESMOND: Hey, Jin!
CHARLIE: Jin!
DESMOND: Jin!
[Jin catches up with Mikhail, and they fight. Mikhail first almost stabs Jin with a stake, and then tries to strangle him against a tree. Jin frees himself and knocks Mikhail down with a kick. He then grabs Mikhail by the neck. Desmond intervenes and throws Mikhail against a tree]
DESMOND: Who are you? [Points the flare gun right at his chest] I said, who are you?
CHARLIE: He's the guy who shot Sayid. Kate told us he lived out in that station Locke blew up. He's an Other.
HURLEY: I thought Locke killed that guy with the electro-fence thingy.
DESMOND: You've got five seconds to talk, or I fire this gun brother.
MIKHAIL: That's a flare gun.
DESMOND: And how do you think it'll feel? Taking a flare to the chest at this range.
MIKHAIL: As your friend pointed out, I already died once this week.
NAOMI: [Speaks Italian - “Help me, I'm dying”]
DESMOND: You understand her.
MIKHAIL: She's speaking Italian. She said she's dying, she needs help. I was a Soviet Army field medic, I can offer you my services.
[Desmond pulls Mikhail to her]
CHARLIE: Wait, what are you doing?
DESMOND: I'm saving her.
MIKHAIL: This branch has punctured her lung. It's filling with blood. If it is not ventilated soon, she's going to die.
DESMOND: Well do it. Help her.
MIKHAIL: If I fix her, you must let me walk away as if I never came upon you.
DESMOND: [Pauses] What you need?
[Mikhail works into the night to save the parachutist's life]
MIKHAIL: What else do you know about this woman? Did she have anything on her besides the flare gun.
HURLEY: Just a book, fancy radio phone thingy.
[Charlie shakes his head as Mikhail turns to Hurley]
MIKHAIL: Does it work?
HURLEY: Like I'd tell you.
MIKHAIL: One of you must help. The rest clear the way, I need space.
DESMOND: I'll do it.
MIKHAIL: Wipe away as much of the blood as you can.
[Naomi begins to struggle for breath]
MIKHAIL: We need to evac the air now! Hold her steady. Steady!
DESMOND: Yeah I heard ya!
[Mikhail stabs Naomi in the chest with a funnel and blood suctions out of her]
DESMOND: Is that, normal?
[He pulls out the funnel, and Naomi screams with pain]
MIKHAIL: Close! [Desmond grabs some material and places it on the wound] Tape it, be careful. [Inaudible, possibly “Cabirin”] needs to be hollow, the wound needs to breathe.
NAOMI: [Speaks Portuguese – “I am not alone. I am not alone”]
DESMOND: What did she say?
MIKHAIL: Thank you. She said thank you for helping me.
[Mikhail finishes his treatment of the woman]
MIKHAIL: She's fine. Keep the wound as clean as you can, she should be better in a day.
CHARLIE: Day? Her lung was punctured.
MIKHAIL: On this Island, the wounds are a bit different. Maybe a day and a half. I did as I promised, she will live.
CHARLIE: You can't seriously be considering letting him go.
DESMOND: Just go.
CHARLIE: Are you kidding, he's one of them.
[Mikhail leaves.]
Day 86-88 (12/16/2004 to 12/18/2004)
A Speedy Recovery
3.18 D.O.C.
[Desmond and Hurley talk about the Others and their fellow 815s for a while, possibly overheard by Naomi. Hurley sits with the parachutist. He attempts to make the satellite phone work, and holds it to his ear]
HURLEY: [Sarcastically] Mom?
[The woman coughs]
NAOMI: Where am I?
HURLEY: Take it easy, you just had a giant branch...
NAOMI: [Interrupting] Where am I!
HURLEY: I dunno. You're on an Island. Are you here to rescue us? Are there more of you, can you make your phone work?
NAOMI: Who are you?
HURLEY: Hugo Reyes. I crashed here on Oceanic Flight 815. A bunch of us survived, is that why you're here, were you looking for us?
Even though Naomi already suspected there might be survivors of 815 on the island, she plays dumb.
NAOMI: 815. Flight 815? The one from Sydney.
HURLEY: Yeah!
NAOMI: No, that's not possible.
HURLEY: Yeah I know. It wasn't easy but we found food, and a hatch...
NAOMI: [Interrupting] No. No, Flight 815 they, they found the plane. There were no survivors. They were all dead.
HURLEY: What?!
3.19 The Brig
The group make a stretcher for Naomi, carry her back to the beach camp, and hide her in Hurley's tent. During the course of that time, Naomi tells them that if they keep her safe, she is their way off the island.
DESMOND: [to Charlie] Naomi, I mean you heard everything that she said. If we keep her safe, she's our way off this Island.
Day 89 (12/19/2004)
Sayid and the Sat Phone
The group is reluctant to trust Jack, who just welcomed Juliet into their midst, so Hurley approaches Sayid and tells him about Naomi. Sayid comes to the tent and talks to her.
[They go inside the tent, where Desmond smiles to Sayid, who takes a seat]
SAYID: [To Naomi] My name's Sayid Jarrah. I understand your helicopter crashed onto the Island.
NAOMI: Actually it crashed in the water.
SAYID: What's your name?
NAOMI: Naomi. Naomi Dorrit.
SAYID: Naomi, from where exactly did you take off?
NAOMI: A ship. Freighter. About eighty nautical miles West of here. We're part of a search and recovery team.
SAYID: You told my friends the wreckage of Flight 815 was discovered. Did you mean the partial wreckage?
NAOMI: No. They found the entire plane off the coast of Bali. In an ocean trench four miles deep. They sent down cameras in these little robots to survey the wreck. The bodies were all there.
SAYID: Well, obviously we're not dead.
NAOMI: Obviously.
SAYID: So if you weren't looking for us, then who were you looking for?
NAOMI: [Looking at Desmond] Him.
SAYID: Desmond?
Naomi employs her cover story to alleviate suspicion. She lies, and says her company was hired by Penny instead of Charles, and says they were hired to recover Desmond instead of Ben.
NAOMI: My company was hired by a woman named Penelope Widmore. I don't know why, I never met her. She gave us a set of coordinates. We've been conducting a differential GPS grid search ever since.
SAYID: You knew about the Island?
[Naomi plays dumb about the island, and lies]
NAOMI: Island? We were given coordinates in the middle of the bloody ocean. We thought it was a fool's errand. Til three days ago. I was flying back for the ship when all of a sudden the clouds cleared and I saw land. The instruments started spinning, I realized I was going down so, I grabbed my chute and I bailed.
SAYID: [To Desmond] Did you actually see her helicopter?
DESMOND: No.
NAOMI: You think I'm lying mate?
SAYID: And I take it you have no means whatsoever of communicating with that freighter of yours?
NAOMI: What was your name? Sayid?
SAYID: Yes.
[Naomi pulls out the satellite phone from under the covers of the bed she's lying in]
NAOMI: Remind me not to rescue you, Sayid.
Naomi gives the sat phone to Sayid, and Sayid spends time examining the phone, trying to figure out why it won't work. While he's working on it, Kate spots the phone, so they let her in on the secret. Naomi gives Kate more promises of rescue. Kate goes to Jack, and tells him.
KATE: She says that the boat that she took off from is about eighty miles off the coast and that if she can find a way to contact it, we'll all be rescued.
3.20 The Man Behind the Curtain
Jack and Juliet leave to make plans, while Sayid, Kate, and Desmond reveal Naomi's existence to the rest of the camp.
[At the beach the whole camp are in uproar about Naomi's revelations]
CLAIRE: So, what, the whole world thinks we're dead?
SAYID: That's not important right now.
SUN: Not important?!
CLAIRE: What do you mean it's not important, Sayid?
NAOMI: Excuse me. I'm sorry, don't you people want to be rescued?
SAYID: We kept her a secret to keep her safe.
KATE: Safe from what, Sayid?
SAYID: Safe from Jack.
Day 90 (12/20/2004)
The Radio Tower
3.21 Greatest Hits
Jack does his famous exploding tree trick, and regains the faith of the 815s. Back at the camp, Naomi approaches Charlie and attempts to gain some information about the Others.
NAOMI: Can I ask you something?
[Charlie turns to her]
CHARLIE: Yeah?
NAOMI: Who are you people about to go to war with?
CHARLIE: Now that's a long story. Wanna ask me something else?
NAOMI: You having a laugh?
CHARLIE: No, of course not. I'd never disrespect a fellow Mancunian.
NAOMI: You're from Manchester then?!
CHARLIE: I am. My band got its start at the Night and Day bar on Oldham Street.
NAOMI: [Laughs] What band?
CHARLIE: Oh, we're called Drive Shaft.
NAOMI: Yeah, yeah, I know you.
CHARLIE: We had our moment in the sun...
NAOMI: No, not that, the crash. You're the dead rock star. They made a big deal out of you when they found the plane--huge memorial service, new album.
CHARLIE: There's a new album?
NAOMI: Yeah. God, it was everywhere... a greatest hits thing.
[Charlie smiles but then sees Desmond in the distance]
NAOMI: Hey, look on the bright side. You're not really dead, right?
CHARLIE: Yeah, right.
[They smile as Desmond walks on]
Sayid comes to the conclusion that the phone won't work because it's getting interference from the radio tower. He tells Jack this, at which point Juliet informs them that even with the radio tower shut down, all transmissions are being jammed by The Looking Glass. They form a plan to deactivate The Looking Glass, while Jack, Naomi and most of the other 815s set out for the radio tower. They commence their journey...
3.22 Through the Looking Glass
[Rousseau leads the survivors along the shoreline]
NAOMI: Jack. Can I ask you a question?
JACK: Sure.
NAOMI: What did you do for a living before you became Moses?
JACK: [Laughs] I was a doctor.
NAOMI: Right, course you were. Well, I need your attention for a minute, doctor.
[Naomi looks at Juliet, who has stopped with Jack]
NAOMI: [To Jack] Is she OK?
JACK: Why wouldn't she be?
NAOMI: Because none of your people trusts her. No offense.
JULIET: [To Jack] You know what why don't you catch up to me when you're done.
JACK: Juliet...
JULIET: It's fine.
[She moves on]
NAOMI: [Pulls out her phone] So, I need to show you how this wonderful gadget works in case anything happens to me. You need to be able to call my boat.
JACK: OK. Show me.
NAOMI: It's actually simple. You turn her on here. This opens a direct channel to the freighter. Give her a tap here. Wait for the beep, and say hello.
JACK: And that's it?
NAOMI: That's it. Once the rock star turns off whatever underwater contraption's jamming us up, this red light will turn a lovely shade of green. That'll be any time now, yeah?
JACK: Hopefully.
That night, Jack's group hears the explosions on the beach from a distance, and know something is wrong, but continue on. Naomi looks at her phone, which is still blinking red.
Day 91 (12/21/2004)
Contact
3.22 Through the Looking Glass
The next day, Jack's group continues on their trek to the radio tower.
[Jack walks over to Naomi who is holding the satellite phone]
JACK: The light's still red?
[Naomi nods]
They continue on. When they are about an hour away from the radio tower, the group encounters Benjamin Linus and Alex standing in their path. Ben sees Naomi, and Naomi sees Ben.
BEN: Hello, Jack. We need to talk.
[Jack and Ben stand opposite each other inland. Kate heads off to take the flank, as Jack goes to Ben and circles him]
BEN: [To Naomi] Hi, I'm Benjamin, I don't believe we've had the pleasure...
JACK: Don't talk to him! [To Ben] What do you want?
BEN: Just a moment of your time. To talk, you and me, alone.
JACK: For what?
BEN: Jack you've just killed seven of my people, the least you can give me is five minutes.
[Rose and Sun exchange anxious looks. Kate arrives back to Jack]
JACK: He alone?
KATE: There's only two sets of tracks, his and hers.
JACK: Five minutes.
Jack and Ben leave, and a while later Jack returns to the group with Ben badly beaten. Jack tells Kate and Danielle that Ben just had several of the 815s killed, and orders that Ben be tied up and brought with them to the radio tower.
KATE: So why did you bring him back? Why didn't you just kill him?
JACK: Because I want him to see it. I want him to experience the moment that we get off this Island, and I want him to know that he failed. And then I'll kill him.
The group continue on towards the radio tower. Meanwhile, Charlie Pace succeeds in deactivating the jamming, but dies in the process.
[Out in the jungle, Aaron begins to cry in Claire's arms]
CLAIRE: Sshh. hey Aaron, it's OK, sweetie.
NAOMI: What's the matter?
CLAIRE: I dunno, I think he's just a bit scared.
NAOMI: Hard to blame him.
[Naomi's phone beeps. She looks at it, and the light is blinking green]
CLAIRE: What is it?
NAOMI: What's your boyfriend's name? The rock star who swam down to the station?
CLAIRE: Charlie, why?
NAOMI: Charlie just got us rescued.
[Naomi runs up the line of trekkers]
NAOMI: Jack!! Jack, he did it!! Your friend bloody well did it!
JACK: What?
NAOMI: The green light, it's on. The jamming's stopped.
JACK: Use it then.
NAOMI: All right.
[She dials]
VOICE: Four, four, two..
FEMALE VOICE: [Speaks in French]
NAOMI: What's this?
JACK: It's Rousseau's message, it's still blocking the signal.
ROUSSEAU: It doesn't matter. We're here.
VOICE: [On phone] Iteration one, seven, five...
[The group trek up a hill to see the radio tower dominating the sky. Inside the French message can be heard playing on loop. The recording is from a machine in the room by a speaker]
ROUSSEAU: I recorded this sixteen years ago. [To Alex] Three days before you were born. I guess we don't need it anymore.
[She turns off the recording and removes the tape]
JACK: [To Naomi] All right, do it.
[Naomi holds the phone]
NAOMI: I can't get a signal in here.
[They all exit the room and go outside, as everyone watches, including Ben who has been tied to a tree]
NAOMI: I'm getting something!
KATE: It's gonna work! It's happening, we're gonna get off of this Island!
JACK: We'll celebrate when we're home.
BEN: Jack! I know you think you're saving your people, but you need to stop this. It's a mistake.
JACK: The mistake was listening to you.
BEN: This'll be your last chance, Jack. I'm telling you, making that call is the beginning of the end.
NAOMI: I've got it, I've got a signal!!!
BEN: Jack please, you don't know what you're doing!!
JACK: I know exactly what I'm doing.
[Naomi presses on the phone, and it says “CONNECTED”. Naomi suddenly shakes, and spurts blood from her mouth. She falls down with a knife in her back and drops the phone. Behind her, Locke moves forward]
[B]4.01 The Beginning of the End
Naomi is apparently rendered unconscious for an unknown amount of time. She is badly wounded, but not dead. When she finally regains consiousness, no one is near her, no one is tending to her wounds. In spite of a doctor being present, she has been left for dead. The 815s are milling around in the area, but no one notices Naomi... except for Ben, who is still tied to a tree. Carefully, Naomi crawls off into the jungle, manages to extract the knife from her back, and manages to start walking. She lays a false trail for some distance, then backtracks and heads West across the island, in the direction of the freighter. Once it gets dark, and she can go no further, Naomi climbs up a tree and hides. Eventually, she hears Kate approaching.
The satellite phone starts ringing. Kate pauses, and then decides to answer]
KATE: Hello.
MINKOWSKI: Who's this?
KATE: Er, this is Kate.
MINKOWSKI: You with Jack?
KATE: No no, he's not here.
MINKOWSKI: Where's Naomi?
KATE: We're looking for her.
MINKOWSKI: What do you mean, you're looking for her?
[Kate ends the call. Blood drips onto her arm. Kate looks up to see Naomi dive down onto her with Locke's Tigershark knife. She holds it to Kate's throat]
NAOMI: Give me the phone. Give me the phone.
KATE: Naomi, listen to me. You're hurt, let me help you.
NAOMI: Help me? I just spent the last three days trying to get you people rescued. And you throw this knife in my back.
KATE: No, no it was not us.
NAOMI: Who?
KATE: His name is John Locke.
NAOMI: Why?
KATE: He said that you weren't who you said you were.
[The phone rings]
KATE: I swear to God, we would never hurt you, you know us. Please. We need your help, please help us.
NAOMI: Give me the phone.
[Kate does so. Naomi falls down and answers]
NAOMI: George. It's Naomi.
MINKOWSKI: Naomi, where have you been? What's going on over there?
[Naomi looks at Kate]
NAOMI: I had an accident. I'm hurt.
MINKOWSKI: Wha, an accident. What accident? What happened? Naomi? Hello? Hello?
[Naomi continues to stare at Kate]
NAOMI: I hit a tree branch, when I parachuted in. Took it through my gut.
MINKOWSKI: Why did they tell me you were getting firewood?
NAOMI: I guess they were afraid to tell you what happened to me until I could talk to you myself.
MINKOWSKI: We've lost our signal and we can't come get you. Can you change your tracking frequency?
NAOMI: Yeah. (She presses buttons on the phone) Try it now.
MINKOWSKI: Clear as a bell. Hang on Naomi, we'll get you back here ASAP, ok?
NAOMI: I'm sorry, George. Just tell my sister that I love her.
[Naomi gives a coded response that indicates she is a prisoner and her life is being threatened. Then she collapses. Kate realises she is dead]
