Did anyone else get the feeling that was a direct poke at people coming up with theories about Lost on message boards?

Expand what part of the exchange made you think of this. What did Saywer say. I did get the feeling watching this episode that they were very much aware of these boards.

Well, after walt tells sawyer about ethan taking charlie and claire and that ethan wasn't on the lsit and telling sawyer that it's stupid to lie about your name...Sawyer says "Alrighty tattoo, where do YOU think Ethan came from?" To which walt replied "Maybe he was already on the island, before we were". Sawyer laughs. "You got yourself one hell of an imagination kid" Walt proclaims there could be lots of other people on the island. Sawyer retors "So a tribe of evil natives planted a ringer in the camp to kidnap a pregnant girl an a reject from VH-1 has-beens. Yeah, fiendishly clever"

I just got the feeling that Sawyer was playing the part of the writers.

I'm not saying this is what was going on, but I got that feeling.

Partly, it's just Sawyer being Sawyer... he's thinking: yeah, and if you believe that, I've got an investment opportunity in Mexico. Triple your money in two weeks.

But partly, yeah, the writer is poking fun at the absurdity of the plot they're coming up with. And reassuring the audience that they're aware of what they're doing.

With Walt he's humoring a kid a being cordial. With Hurley he just gives him the manifest without any resistence. It's pretty simple the writers are slowy trying to show a good side with Sawyer so people will start to like him and also maybe show his path to redemption.

True, he did keep Sayyid's fire going. Interesting they mentioned the tide too...I bet that'll come into play

I thought the exchange was directed more at those who speculate that Walt might be behind the weird happenings on the island. It may even be a clue - though, more likely, a red herring.
