This thread is dedicated to another reference tool, the character walkthrough. Unlike transcripts, this tool focuses on a particular character and their involvement in various episodes during a season.

Originally scheduled to be the pilot of Oceanic Flight 815, Frank was replaced. Guilt-ridden, he yearns to learn the truth about the fateful flight and what became of the pilot, Seth Norris, who took his place September 24, 2004. Why was he replaced? Will he ever find the answers he is searching for?

Season 4 starts with a combination of flash-forwards and present island time for the cast. In flash-forwards we see characters, like Hurley, off the island and still dealing with personal demons. Jack wants to get back to the island. When on island, in the present, the characters are awaiting rescue. Some believe that Naomi is the key to their rescue since she is associated with an offshore freighter. Others believe she is a harbinger of death. The survivors of 815 split into 2 camps. One is headed by Jack, who believes rescue is imminent and the other by Locke who believe dealing with Naomi is a mistake. All in all, this season of LOST introduces us to new characters and agendas. Frank Lapidus is one of the new characters. He is the helicopter pilot for the science team that waits on the offshore freighter. Let us delve into his assignment, an episode at a time,
and see where he leads us.
Episode 1 – The Beginning of the End
No appearance.
Episode 2 – Confirmed Dead
The episode opens with the voices of two men searching the ocean floor, remotely, with robotic rovers. They come across the wreckage of Oceanic Flight 815. The plane is broken into 3 sections. The men are amazed at their discovery which soon becomes headlines around the world. The plane has been missing for months. We delve into the episode with a mélange of new characters and how they came to be a part of the lexicon known as LOST.

Our first meeting with Frank Lapidus, is while he is piloting a helicopter. He is transporting a science team from the freighter to the island. Frank’s job is to get them and the helicopter there safely. A storm, with thunder and lightning, is in full force when the helicopter encounters the violent skies. He is having difficulty controlling the helicopter.
WOMAN ON HELICOPTER: (yelling) I can't find my vest!
MAN ON HELICOPTER: (yelling) Check under your seat!
WOMAN ON HELICOPTER: I already did!
FRANK: Get ready!
MAN ON HELICOPTER: Here just take mine!
The man gives her what appears to be a bulletproof vest.
FRANK: Everybody out now!
MAN ON HELICOPTER: (yelling at Dan.) Hey genius! Go!
The man pulls Dan and pushes him out the door of the helicopter. Dan holds on and tries to climb back in.
DANIEL: No! No! No!
MAN ON HELICOPTER: Go!
DANIEL: No! No! No!
All passengers have parachuted from the helicopter. Frank is left trying to control it and find a place to land.
Throughout the episode, each of the new characters is introduced. They have short back-stories to expound on their strengths. At the same time, our regular characters are trying to survive. Some believe Jack and others believe Locke. We now have a new group to add to the olio of people.

Our next acquaintance with Frank Lapidus comes in a flashback. He is in the office of the Caribbean Dreams Island Travel and Touring office in Eleuthera, The Bahamas. He is standing in front of a fish tank and has just dropped a tiny toy airplane in. He watches as it slowly sinks to the bottom of the tank. The television is on and in the background he hears a report about Oceanic Flight 815. He gets up to get a better look at the screen. This is what hears and sees.
NEWS REPORTER: We want to caution our viewers that the images they are about to see are graphic in nature. Viewer discretion is advised. Authorities have released dramatic footage of the sunken remains of Oceanic Flight 815. The National Transportation Safety Board has set up a hotline for family members of the Oceanic victims. The NTSB has begun the victim identification process.
A picture of the pilot is shown followed by underwater footage of the dead pilot who is still strapped in his seat. Frank looks astonished and tries to refocus on what he is both watching and hearing. There is a hotline number at the bottom of the television screen. It is 888-548-0034.
NEWS REPORTER: We have confirmation that this is the pilot, Captain Seth Norris. In a statement, the NTSB said that quote..."Due to the [unintelligible]...depth...
Frank bows his head in disbelief and despair. The television picture starts to get lost and only static is seen or heard. Frank raps the side of the television set and the picture and audio is back.

NEWS REPORTER: ...recovery of the bodies will be next to impossible. We can only hope that identification will provide closure to the families of the victims." Unquote.
Frank looks at the hands of the body shown on the screen, focusing on the left hand. He is now sure of what he sees. Frank immediately grabs the phone and dials the hotline number. The broadcast continues.
OCEANIC OPERATOR: National Transportation Safety Board, Oceanic Hotline.
FRANK: Yeah, let me speak to your supervisor.
OCEANIC OPERATOR: Yes sir, are you a family member of the deceased?
FRANK: No, I'm not, but I got some information on the crash. May I please speak to your supervisor?
OCEANIC OPERATOR: Sir, if you could just tell me...
FRANK: (interrupting) Look I'm staring at the television right now! You're broadcasting footage of the wreckage and saying that that's the pilot Seth Norris!
OCEANIC OPERATOR: Yes, sir?
FRANK: Well...that's not him!

Frank is leaving no opening for the operator to try and talk to him. He wants a supervisor. The woman pauses for a moment then replies.
OCEANIC OPERATOR: Please hold.
OCEANIC SUPERVISOR: Who am I speaking with?
FRANK: Doesn't matter who I am. You're showing footage of Seth Norris and that's not him. Listen, this guy married his high school sweetheart at 19. He always wore his wedding ring and I'm telling you there's no ring on that body.
OCEANIC SUPERVISOR: Sir it's likely the ring fell off...
FRANK: (interrupting) I'm telling ya, that is not him.
OCEANIC SUPERVISOR: (defensively) How exactly is it that you know all about Captain Norris?
FRANK: Because I was supposed to be flying Oceanic 815 on that day.

After the flashback we see Frank climbing up a rather steep hill. He is pulling himself up using the vines and dead tree roots. When he reaches the top he looks and sees level ground and is confronted by a bull that has a bell around its neck and moos at him. He has a wound on his forehead and his right leg appears injured. Frank is both astonished and perplexed. The bull walks away and Frank finishes his ascent. He stands up only to stumble then fall on his back. He sits up, pulls out his satellite phone but it is broken. He then reaches into his right cargo pants pocket and pulls out an orange flare gun and a flare. He loads the gun then fires it into the air and collapses on his back.

Each of the new characters is dealing with different situations. Daniel and Miles are with Jack’s group. Naomi has died from her knife wound that was inflicted by Locke. Charlotte is with Locke’s group. Frank is unconscious and alone. Jack and Locke, and their groups, see the flare that Frank shot into the air. Locke refuses to go and look for Frank. Jack and his group decide to look for him. When they come upon him, he is not moving. Jack, Miles and Daniel try to revive him.

DANIEL: Is he alive?
JACK: I’ve got a pulse.
DANIEL: Frank? Frank? Hey, hey...Frank?
Frank wakes up, startled and looks around trying to get his bearings.
MILES: You okay?
DANIEL: What happened?
FRANK: We got struck by lightning.
DANIEL: Frank, where's Charlotte?
FRANK: She bailed out, just before we went down. I don't know where she is.
MILES: Where's the chopper?
Frank is still not fully lucid.
FRANK: I saw a cow. (nods his head)
Miles starts waving his hand in front of Frank’s face.
MILES: Hey, hey (snaps his fingers) Lapidus, where is the chopper. (snapping again) Where did it crash?
FRANK: Crash? The hell kind of pilot do you think I am? I put her down safe and sound right over there.
Frank takes great pride in the fact that the helicopter is intact. Frank points down the steep hill he ascended from. Jack and his group go and see that the helicopter is sitting on the ground in a small clearing. Kate, Jack and Sayid smile with the look of salvation.
The next mention of Frank in this episode is during a flashback of Naomi Dorritt. During this flashback we also meet Matthew Abaddon. Abaddon has hired Naomi to insure that the science team members, Charlotte Lewis (anthropologist), Miles Straume (psychic medium) and Daniel Farraday (physicist with emotional issues), arrive on the island safely. Frank is the helicopter pilot of choice. Naomi is not happy with the choice of these 4 people. Here she refers to Frank as a man with alcohol demons. We have yet to see this be proven.
NAOMI: This is a high-risk covert op in unstable territory. It's dodgy enough without having to baby-sit a head case, ghost buster, anthropologist and a drunk.
ABADDON: To be fair he's also a pretty good pilot.
As the episode nears the end, Jack and his team are trying to contact the freighter with Daniel’s satellite phone. Miles uses the phone and calls the freighter. Regina answers and takes a message. In the meantime, Daniel and Kate are taking Naomi’s body to the helicopter. Miles intervenes and prevents them from doing so. Dan and Miles have words. There are only 3 seats available and it is preferred that the passengers be alive. Frank is sitting under a tree while Juliet, a member of Jack’s group, is tending his forehead wound. He shouts to Dan.
FRANK: Miles is right! We burned up most of the damned fuel flying around in that storm. We barely got enough to get back to the freighter. We're not carrying any unnecessary weight. I'll take her on the next run. I promise, Dan.
JACK: (to Kate) There's a blanket over there by my backpack. Would you get it?
KATE: Yeah.
Juliet is cleaning the wound on Frank’s forehead.
FRANK: Look as bad as it feels?
JULIET: How bad does it feel?
FRANK: (chuckling) What’s your name again?
JULIET: Juliet.
FRANK: Juliet. Juliet what?
JULIET: Juliet Burke.
FRANK: Juliet Burke. You weren't on that plane, were you?
Juliet stops tending to the wound and does not respond.
FRANK: Miles!
MILES:] Yeah?
FRANK: This is Juliet...and she was not on the plane.
MILES: What? You sure?
FRANK: (firmly) You know how many times I studied that damn manifest? Believe me there's no Juliet Burke on that plane. She's a native.
Miles is extremely angry and storms towards Juliet. Jack intervenes. It is then we find out that this team is there to locate Benjamin Linus. The science team has been introduced and Frank is their helicopter pilot.
Episode 3 – The Economist
The episode commences with Jack, Sayid, Kate, Juliet, Miles, Daniel and Frank in the clearing where the helicopter landed. Sayid is praying and tending to the body of Naomi. Miles is arguing with Jack. Kate and Juliet interject their thoughts in the argument. Miles’ objective becomes clear.
MILES: The people who hired me told me his name’s Benjamin Linus, they gave me this picture, and that’s all they told me.
Dan approaches Kate
MILES: They said “find him” and for what they’re paying me I don’t need to know anything else, do you?
Sayid flatly states that no one is going anywhere and speaks to Frank. Sayid’s conversation with Frank is to the point. Frank replies accordingly and agrees to take 3 people off the island when Charlotte, currently being held by Locke, is returned.

SAYID: We’re not going anywhere. Will that helicopter fly?
Sayid approaches Frank at the helicopter
FRANK: It’s what she does.
SAYID: Then you can take me to your ship.
JACK: Sayid, wait a second.
Sayid turns to Jack
SAYID: We did call these people to get us off this island, didn’t we?
Sayid turns back to Frank
SAYID: Well?
FRANK: I burned a lot of fuel coming in, I can’t carry much weight. I’ll take three of ya.
MILES: In case you zoned out while you were tweezing your goatee, one of these yahoos took Charlotte prisoner.
SAYID: I can bring her back, safely. And if I do, will you take me to the ship.
FRANK: Absolutely. You bring Charlotte back safe, and I will take you off this island.
At this point in the episode, a series of flash-forwards, centered on Sayid, take place. When the episode returns to the present time, and on the island, Sayid shows Jack a picture of Desmond and Penny. He states that Naomi was looking for Desmond and that none of the information from the new people can be trusted. Sayid, Kate and Miles go to get Charlotte bring her back to the helicopter. Juliet goes to find Desmond. During this time, there is dialogue with the various people with Locke. Frank and Jack begin chatting.

Jack walks to the helicopter, where Frank is working, and retrieves a bottle of water, then starts to walk away.
FRANK: This guy Sayid, where’s he from?
JACK: Iraq.
FRANK: Iraq? So he’s just gonna go and work everything out? What was he, a diplomat?
JACK: No. No, he was a torturer.
Frank is surprised yet he takes Jack’s comment in stride. More flash-forwards with Sayid take place. After some time, we return to the helicopter where Daniel is looking for something. He takes out a tripod and a case. Jack and Frank are watching Daniel. Frank and Jack watch from the tree line. Daniel begins setting up the scientific equipment.

JACK: What’s his story?
FRANK: Daniel? Couldn’t tell ya. Half the stuff he says goes way over my head, the other half goes way, way over.
DANIEL: Hey, uh, Frank? Can I, uh, sorry to interrupt. May I please use the phone, just for a sec?
FRANK: For what?
DANIEL: I just wanna call Regina on the boat cause I figured since we’re waiting maybe I could just, you know, try and uh….
FRANK: What is it, Daniel?
DANIEL: I’d just like to do an experiment. Just, just uh…
FRANK: Okay. You just keep it to that science stuff, all right?
Frank hands the sat phone to Daniel.
DANIEL: Yeah.
FRANK: If Minkowski gets on there, you hang up right away.
DANIEL: Yeah, thank you, thank you.
As Daniel prepares his experiment, Jack questions Daniel’s actions. Frank reassures Jack.
FRANK: Don’t sweat it. He does this kind of stuff on the boat all the time.
The episode switches to Locke and his group, who are at the barracks originally used by Ben and his followers. Upon returning to the helicopter site, we find Jack and Frank chatting.
JACK: Mind if I ask you a question?
FRANK: Shoot.
JACK: The Red Sox really win the Series?
FRANK: Hey, don’t get me started on that, alright? My dad’s from the Bronx. I bleed Yankee blue.
JACK: Can’t believe it’s been a hundred days since I’ve seen a game.

One hundred days since Oceanic 815 crashed. A point in time has been determined. Upon completion of the experiment, a time difference is discovered in travel time from the freighter to the island. Daniel seems disturbed. With that Frank sees Juliet approaching with Desmond. Juliet laughs to Desmond as he sees the helicopter. The episode again switches back to the barracks, which appear uninhabited. As Kate, Sayid and Miles search, Locke and his group take them. More flash-forwards with Sayid take place. As we switch back to the helicopter site, Daniel is checking his scientific equipment as Frank and Desmond walk behind him.

DESMOND: Hey. I’m gonna ask you one last time. Why was Naomi carrying this picture of me?
FRANK: Look man, you gotta understand somethin’. She was senior management, it’s not like we hung around the cafeteria together. She stayed on her own.
DESMOND: Look, Naomi told me you people were hired by her.
Desmond points to Penny in the picture.
DESMOND: So you look me right in the eye and tell me you’ve never seen or heard of Penelope Widmore.
Frank looks over to Daniel who in turn looks off. Frank turns back to Desmond.
DESMOND: Fine. You don’t want to tell me the truth, I’ll find someone who will. See when that takes off, (points to helicopter) I’m on it.
Jack and Juliet see Sayid returning with Charlotte. Frank is looking for Miles.

FRANK: What happened to Miles?
SAYID: I traded him.
FRANK: Traded him?
SAYID: I promised you Charlotte, here she is.
FRANK: You cheated.
SAYID: Did I?
FRANK: Yes you did. Lucky for you that guy’s nothing but a pain in my ass.
Frank prepares to fly the helicopter back to the freighter. As said previously, he has room for 3 passengers. A decision has to be made as to who will leave with Frank.
FRANK: All right, that gives us room for one more. Charlotte?
CHARLOTTE: Go back, with all the fun I’m having here? No, I’ve got work to do.
FRANK: Seat’s yours if you want it, Daniel.
DANIEL: I, no, thank you. I think I should probably just stay with Charlotte.
FRANK: All right.
Frank walks back toward the helicopter as Daniel follows.
DANIEL: Frank. Frank? Just, just, just, just, just one thing. Just be sure that you follow the same exact bearing that we came in on, okay. No matter what. By that, I mean no matter what. Just, just stay on it.
FRANK: Roger that.

Sayid walks to the helicopter and asks Frank one last question.
SAYID: You said we have room for one more?
FRANK: Yeah, why?
SAYID: We should bring Naomi home.
Sayid puts Naomi in the back of the helicopter. Desmond sits next to Frank in the front. Sayid covers Naomi’s face with a blanket and sits in the back. The helicopter lifts off and flies out over the beach and away from the island. There is one more flash forward of Sayid then the episode ends.
Episode 4 – Eggtown
No appearance.
Episode 5 – The Constant
The episode opens with Frank flying the helicopter. On board are Desmond, seated next to Frank, and Sayid who is seated in the back looking down on the blue ocean. Desmond is looking and smiling at a photograph of him with Penny. It is a nice sunny day with blue sky and ocean all around. Frank looks at a yellow piece of paper taped to the controls. On the paper are the words "40 MILES N @ 305 7 K EAST", and a drawing showing the location of the boat. Sayid is putting on a headset and points to the paper. He starts asking Frank questions

SAYID: What's that?
FRANK: Cheat sheet Faraday drew for me.
SAYID: You don't know where your boat is?
FRANK: I know where it is.
SAYID: What's that?
The chopper is on bearing 305 and headed toward dark clouds. The chopper flies into a little turbulence.
SAYID: Why are you flying directly into the thunderhead?

FRANK: Why don't you just sit back and let me do my job, huh?
There is a flash of lightning accompanied by thunder. The turbulence intensifies. Sayid looks over at Desmond who is fixated on the photo.
SAYID: Is that Penelope?
DESMOND: Aye.
SAYID: What do you expect to find when you get there?
DESMOND: Answers.
The turbulence increases and the passengers are being bounced about. The chopper tilts about in the storm and Frank has difficulty maintaining a bearing of 305.
FRANK: Damn it! (pauses) Hold on!
As Frank is flying in the storm, Desmond is suddenly in a flashback. He is in the military. The episode continues and as suddenly as he was in his past, Desmond is mentally back on the helicopter, however he is not the same. He has no idea where he is or who Sayid and Frank are. Sayid does his best to contain Desmond, who is in a state of panic and is trying to unbuckle his seat belt. He moves about and is getting in Frank’s way.
FRANK: We're almost through it. I see daylight!
SAYID: What are you doing? Desmond! Are you alright?
DESMOND: (yelling) Who are you? How do you know my name?
Back on the island, Jack and Juliet are bantering with Charlotte and Daniel. Jack and Juliet are concerned about the helicopter because it left a day ago, island time. Daniel lets them know that perception and reality of time on the island is different. Charlotte does not want Daniel to divulge any information. Daniel reassures Jack that as long as Frank maintains the bearings he gave him then everything will be fine. If Frank fails to keep the bearing there could be side effects. Jack and Juliet are now seriously concerned about the safety of their friends, the pilot and the helicopter. As we return to the helicopter in the storm, we see that it has flown through and out of the storm. The ocean is blue and so is the sky. It is daylight. Desmond is still panicked and Sayid is still trying to calm him.
FRANK: What the hell's going on?
SAYID: Something's wrong with Desmond!
DESMOND : How do you know my name?
FRANK: Hold him there, Sayid!
SAYID: I'm trying!
DESMOND: Let go of me!
FRANK: Keep him away from the stick! We'll be there in 2 minutes.

The freighter comes into view. Desmond is in a state of panic. He is still clutching the photo of him and Penny. Sayid tries to restrain Desmond then sits back down. Frank pilots the chopper over it and lands. As Keamy and Omar run over to where the chopper is, Sayid gets a handgun and tucks it in his rear waistband. Keamy and Omar (part of Keamy’s team) are running toward the chopper.

KEAMY: (to Frank) What are you doing back?
OMAR: Who are they?
FRANK: Survivors of 815.
KEAMY: You shouldn't have brought them here! What the hell were you thinking?
Desmond is still panicked and about the deck of the freighter. Keamy, Omar and Sayid are trying to calm him. Keamy turns to Frank and questions him.
KEAMY:When did he start doing this?
FRANK: He was fine when we took off. When we hit some weather...
Keamy and Omar look at each other as if reading each other’s mind.
FRANK: Hey, Faraday told me as long as I stayed on the vector...
Keamy motions for Frank to shut up. Keamy and Omar go towards Desmond but Sayid steps between them and Desmond. Keamy convinces Desmond and Sayid to let their doctor examine Desmond. There is a large portion of the episode that now deals with Desmond, Sayid, Keamy, Omar and the doctor. In sickbay, we are introduced to a new character, George Minkowski. He is the communications operator on the freighter. Desmond continues flashing back from the freighter to his various places in his past.
We return to the deck of the freighter. Sayid watches Keamy arguing with Frank on a middle level deck near 2 flights of stairs. Keamy goes up a flight to a 3rd deck while Frank goes down a flight to the main deck. Frank walks toward Sayid, who is awaiting Frank, and begins to chat with him. They are walking toward the chopper.

SAYID: What's happening to Desmond? Your friends know what's wrong with him.
FRANK: Well if they do, they're not sharing it with me.
They stop and face each other.
SAYID: Then perhaps you'll share how we took off at dusk and landed in the middle of the day.
FRANK: Listen. I don't know what's happening to your buddy, alright? But you gotta trust me when I tell you this. I am trying to help you.

SAYID: You want to help me? Give me your phone. Let me call my people.
FRANK: You give me that weapon and I'll give you this phone.
Sayid hands the gun to Frank and Frank sets then hands the sat phone to Sayid. Sayid begins to walk to the back of the freighter.
FRANK: Be quick. And don't go trying to call Baghdad. Those phones can only call each other.

Sayid talks with Jack, who is back on the island and waiting for contact from Sayid. Sayid tells Jack about Desmond and Daniel knows what is happening. He gets the phone from Jack and tells Sayid that he needs to talk to Desmond quickly. Juliet, Jack and Charlotte are just watching and listening. Daniel is determined and ignores any attempt to interrupt him. Meanwhile, Desmond is dealing with George, the doctor and the flashes into his past. He thinks that what is happening is a lucid dream.
Suddenly the door to sickbay swings open and in walks Frank and Sayid. Frank gives the sat phone to Desmond.
DOC RAY: What the hell, Frank? You're not supposed to be down here, and definitely not with him!
FRANK: Sorry, doc, but I've got Faraday calling from the island, and he needs to talk to this guy.
DOC RAY: No, Faraday's not talking to my patient! Now get out of here!
SAYID: He's not your patient!
Sayid pushes Doc Ray out of the way and yells to Frank to give the phone to Sayid. Desmond and Daniel speak and Daniel gives Desmond instructions on how to find him when he next experiences a flash to his past. It is determined at this point that Desmond thinks it is 1996. The doctor has pressed an alarm and there is a loud horn sounding as a result. Sayid holds the door to sickbay closed as long as he can. Suddenly the door flies open and in comes Keamy and Omar. Sayid and Omar begin to scuffle. Keamy rips the phone from Desmond’s hand. We can still hear Daniel on the other end talking.

FRANK: Hey, come on! Everybody relax, listen! Look! Daniel wanted to talk to the guy so we brought him the phone, that's all.
The alarm stops ringing everyone in sickbay relaxes a bit.
KEAMY:You let Faraday talk to him?
FRANK: He said he could help!
DOC RAY: Faraday can't even help himself.
OMAR: (to Frank) Outside now. The captain wants to talk to you.
SAYID: And I want to talk to your captain.
KEAMY: I'll be sure to let him know. In the meantime, have a seat.
Doc Ray, Keamy, Omar and Frank leave sickbay. Keamy makes certain the door is locked from the outside. Frank is no longer in this episode. The next time we encounter Frank is in S4E7 – Ji Yeon.
The remainder of the episode is centered on Desmond and his flashing to his past. Daniel explains to Desmond that his conscious is traveling back and forth from 1996 to 2004. It is because he has no constant. Daniel defines a constant.
DANIEL: Something familiar in both times. All this, see this, is all variables. It's random. It's chaotic. Every equation needs stability, something known. It's called a constant. Desmond, you have no constant. When you go to the future, nothing there is familiar. If you want to stop this, th, then you need to find something there. Something that you really, really care about, that also exists back here, in 1996.
Desmond establishes Penny as his constant and Daniel establishes Desmond as his constant. The episode comes to an end.
S4E6 - The Other Woman
No appearance.
S4E7 – Ji Yeon
As the episode commences, the freighter sits on a calm ocean at night. Frank is walking toward the hatch door on the main deck, away from the helicopter. He is carrying a brown paper bag. Keamy walks out of the hatch door and is headed toward the helicopter. Frank and Keamy meet each other in the middle of the deck.

KEAMY: Lapidus! You’re ready?
FRANK: (nods) I’ll be up.
KEAMY: Don’t be late Frank.
Frank walks away, looks back, then continues walking with no reaction. He heads for the main deck hatch door. He walks down a corridor to sickbay. Regina is sitting in front and guarding the door while reading a book.
FRANK:: Regina?
REGINA: (startled) Frank! I didn’t hear you.
Regina is reading a book. The title is Survivors of the Chancellor by Jules Verne. She is acting scattered.
FRANK: Sorry. I didn’t mean to spook you. Captain wanted me to bring these guys some grub.
REGINA: OK.
FRANK: You know you’re book is upside down. Just trying to help.
Frank sighs. Regina quickly turns the book right side up so it is readable. She appears addled. Frank opens the door and enters sickbay. Sayid gets up and approaches Frank. The door closes and we hear it being locked from the outside. Desmond is sitting on a cot. Frank is still holding the brown paper bag under is right arm. A conversation ensues.

FRANK: Thought I'd check in on you guys and bring you some food
FRANK: (to Desmond) How are you feeling by the way?
DESMOND: I am m much better, thanks.
SAYID: Why are we being held captive? We had nothing to do with Minkowski's death.
FRANK: This has nothing to do with Minkowski. The captain wasn't very happy that you two decided to bust out of sick bay and into our radio room.
SAYID: We didn't bust out. The door was left open! We assumed that was you.
FRANK: (scrunches brows) Why the hell would I do that?
SAYID: (changes subject) Did you have any contact with our people on the beach?
FRANK: No luck. Something must have happened to their phone.
Frank empties paper bag on a cot. There are multiple cans. He hands a can opener to Sayid.
SAYID: Lima beans?
FRANK: Sorry, we had a little problem in the kitchen. Just stay put, alright?
SAYID: I still want to talk to the captain.
FRANK: No you don’t.
Frank goes to leave and knocks on the door.
FRANK: Regina?
The door is unlocked. Frank leaves sickbay. Frank does not appear in this episode again. We next see him in Episode 8 – Meet Kevin Johnson.
The remainder of the episode concentrates on Sun and Jin. Sun has flash forwards and Jin has flashbacks. There are scenes with Juliet, Kate, Jack, Daniel, Sayid, Desmond, Bernard, and Doc Ray. There is the introduction of the captain of the freighter, Captain Gault. During the episode, Sun give birth to a baby girl who she names Ji Yeon. As the episode draws to a close, we see Hurley, Sun and Ji Yeon in a cemetery. They are visiting a memorial site for Jin. It shows that he died the day of the Oceanic 815 crash, September 24, 2004. The episode ends.

Episode 8 – Meet Kevin Johnson
The episode commences at the barracks with Locke and his group. They are discussing what to do with Miles. They also learn that Michael is Ben’s man on the freighter. The group is shocked to know that Michael is working with Ben. The scenes switch back and forth from the island to the freighter. Soon Sayid and Desmond learn about Michael after seeing him on the freighter. Michael had been introduced as Kevin Johnson. Alex, Karl and Danielle leave the barracks to find the Temple because Ben said they would be safer there. Back on the freighter Sayid and Desmond find Michael in the engine room and confront him about why he is there and what happened when he left the island with Walt. Desmond does not know Michael and is confused by Sayid’s mean disposition toward Michael.
As Michael tells his tale, it is shown in a series of flashbacks. During the flashbacks we learn that the island will not let a person die until the island is finished with them and what it wants that person to do. Michael learns why he cannot commit suicide. We see the freighter at port in Fiji and the preparations being made before setting out to sea. We see how Naomi and Miles came to be on the freighter.

It is sunset at sea. The Kahana churns through the water. Michael is on deck, looking at the ocean. We also hear a confrontation between Naomi and Frank over flying the helicopter. At that point in time there were 2 helicopters.
NAOMI: [off-camera] Sorry, Frank, but I'm going first and that's all there is to it!
FRANK: [off-camera] No offense, but I was flying these things when you were still in grade school!
Michael turns to see Naomi and Frank Lapidus arguing.
FRANK: If anybody's gotta go first, it should be me!
NAOMI: Yeah, I need you here to transport the science team, Frank.
FRANK: What the hell are you gonna be doing?
NAOMI: That's need-to-know! You don't!
Naomi leaves Frank and is seen entering the hatch door on the main deck. Frank then walks over to Michael who just witnessed the confrontation. Frank starts talking with Michael.

FRANK: So much for the fairer sex, huh?
Frank chuckles, and extends his hand to Michael.
FRANK: Frank Lapidus. Chopper pilot.
MICHAEL: Kevin Johnson...
They shake hands.
MICHAEL: ...deckhand.
FRANK: So what's your story, Kevin?
MICHAEL: Sorry?
FRANK: How'd ya end up in this tub?
MICHAEL: Lookin' for a little adventure.
FRANK: Ah...adventure. Yeah. [whispering] Well, how do you like this for adventure? You ever hear about Oceanic eight-fifteen?
MICHAEL: Yeah.
FRANK: What would you say if I told you the plane they found in that trench wasn't Oceanic eight-fifteen?
MICHAEL: What is it?
FRANK: You know those nuts that think the moon landing was faked? Well, this is like that. Only real. That's why I signed up for this trip; because the owner of this boat believes me. Charles Widmore. He believes that eight-fifteen is still out there somewhere. I mean, can you imagine what would happen... if we found some of those people alive?
Frank walks away from Michael, who still has his eyes focused on Frank. Frank makes no more appearances in this episode.
The remainder of the episode focuses on Michael’s, aka Kevin Johnson, tale to Desmond and Sayid as to how he came to be on the freighter. Eventually, Sayid takes Michael to Captain Gault and breaks Michael’s cover. Sayid tells the captain that Kevin Johnson is really Michael Dawson and is a survivor of Oceanic 815. The episode comes to an end with Karl and Danielle being shot while traveling to the Temple. Alex screams for whoever is shooting at them to stop and states that she is Ben’s daughter.
Episode 9 – The Shape of Things to Come
No appearance.
Episode 10 - Something Nice Back Home
The episode commences with Bernard and Rose arguing with Daniel and Charlotte over the satellite phone and it’s lack of signal. Juliet awakens Jack who then intervenes. Jack soon collapses from severe abdominal pain, which turns out to be a severe case of appendicitis. The episode focuses a great deal on Jack. Flashbacks and flash-forwards are utilized. We see Jack and Kate, with Aaron, in flash-forwards. There is scene where Jack visits Hurley at Santa Rosa because he is refusing to take his medications.
This focus on Jack is interspersed with scenes involving Sawyer, Claire, Aaron and Miles who are making their way back to the beach from the barracks. At one point they hear the rustling of foliage. Sawyer lifts his rifle and takes aim at the approaching noise. All of a sudden Frank comes running out of the jungle carrying a med kit in one hand and a satellite phone in the other. He looks up to see a gun being pointed straight at him and screeches to a halt with arms raised.

FRANK: Whoa! Hey!
The sat. phone in Frank's hand can be heard steadily beeping.
SAWYER: The hell are you?
MILES: (surprised) Lapidus?
FRANK: (confused) Miles?
SAWYER: (looks to Miles, then back at Frank) You two know each other?!
FRANK: (to Miles) You gotta hide, man. Right now.
MILES: What?
The beeping from the sat. phone is steadily getting faster.
FRANK: Keamy's comin' back. And if he sees you, he'll kill all of ya.
Frank looks down at the sat phone, which shows a single dot for him and a group of dots for Keamy's group closing in fast.
FRANK: ...and he's close, man. You gotta hide. Now! Go! Hide! Just hide!

Sawyer grabs Claire by the arm and rushes away with Miles close behind them to hide out of sight behind a nearby tree. Lapidus looks down at the sat. phone and sees the group of dots almost to him. A moment later, he looks up to see Keamy leading his team out of the jungle. One of them is badly injured and is being carried arm over shoulder by two of the group.
KEAMY: Where's the chopper?
FRANK: (motions with one hand) It's about a click back that way.
KEAMY: Did you bring the kit?
FRANK: Yeah, it's right here.
Sawyer's group is shown watching the scene through the foliage.
FRANK: (looking at the injured merc) Jeez, man. He looks bad. What the hell happened?
KEAMY: You do your job. I'll do mine.

Keamy takes the med kit from Frank and hands it to one of the mercs. When Aaron makes a slight crying noise, Keamy looks sharply to the jungle, not knowing what he heard. Claire clutches Aaron tightly to keep him quiet. Only birds and insects can be heard chirping from the jungle now as Keamy continues to looks suspiciously around the area. Frank intervenes to draw his attention away from whatever he thought he heard.
FRANK: (looks up to the sky) Okay... It's gettin' dark man.
The merc with the med kit is shown in the background tending to his wounded comrade. The scene switches back and forth from Keamy looking around for the source of the noise he heard, to Sawyer's group hiding just out of his sight. Sawyer readies his gun in case they are found out.
FRANK: We gotta leave, now. Mr. Keamy... we gotta get back to the chopper. Keamy, we gotta get back. 'Cause I'll tell ya right now, I am not flying Faraday's bearings at night. I'm not gonna do it, so if you wanna get back, we gotta leave right now, sir.
KEAMY: Fine. You lead the way.
Frank looks relieved and turns to lead them back to the chopper.
KEAMY: (nods to the other mercs) Come on.
Frank does not make another appearance in this episode.
The remainder of the episode focuses on Jack and his appendectomy, which is performed by Juliet, Jack’s flash-forwards, Claire’s disappearance and Sawyer finding Aaron alone.
Episode 11 – Cabin Fever

This episode commences with a girl dancing to a Buddly Holly song entitled, “Everyday.” She is Emily Locke. The episode focuses on John Locke from his birth to the present day on the island. Richard Alpert makes several appearances in Locke’s life. On the island, Locke, Hurley and Ben are searching for Jacob’s cabin.

We first encounter Frank as he is landing the helicopter on the freighter. On board are Keamy and his team of mercenaries, including the one who was tossed around by the Smoke monster. Doc Ray is examining this mercenary. Desmond and Sayid are awakened by the noise on deck and go up to see what is causing it. Frank exits the chopper and slowly shuts the door. He looks on as Keamy and Doc Ray talk about the injured mercenary.

Keamy is furious and believes that Captain Gault has informed people on the island of the planned operation. Captain Gault flatly denies this. Michael is visited by Keamy and is beaten severely. Michael is the man who gave Keamy up. Each time Keamy tries to shoot Michael, his gun jams. As Keamy barges out of the hatch room where Michael is, he forcefully takes a key from Captain Gault. As this is happening Frank approaches the two men.
FRANK: Captain. Mayhew just died. Doc couldn't do anything for him. The crew's asking a lot of questions about what happened to you guys over there.
KEAMY: You tell the crew that I'm dealing with it, then you can go gas up the chopper, Frank. We're going back.
FRANK: Going back? The hell for?
KEAMY: (annoyed) Gas up the chopper, Frank.
FRANK: OK.
Frank turns and leaves with a look of exasperation.

The episode goes back and forth between the island, the freighter and Locke’s flashbacks. During this time Keamy has taken a folder from a locked container and it bears the Dharma logo. It contains what Keamy refers to as Protocol 2. This tells him what Ben should do next. In the meantime, Frank goes to the hatch room where Michael is laying on the floor with his wrists shackled to a pipe. Frank lifts the cot off of Michael’s legs and starts to unshackle and help him to his feet.
FRANK: (low voice) Why didn't you tell me?
MICHAEL: Tell you what?
FRANK: That you're a survivor of 815.
MICHAE : Oww 'cause you wouldn't have believed me.
FRANK: You didn't think I'd believe you? I tell you that I'm one of the only people in the world that think that that plane on the bottom of the ocean is a hoax, and you didn't think I'd believe you?
MICHAEL: I didn't know if I could trust you. Your boss put that plane there.
FRANK: Hehehe Man, I thought I was Mr. Conspiracy, but you got me beat there.
MICHAEL: Listen to me. Listen to me. You can't fly that guy back, Keamy?
FRANK: You let me worry about Keamy, all right?
MICHAEL: You can't fly him back! He is gonna kill everyone on that Island. Everyone. And you don't want that on your conscience, man. Trust me.
Frank and Michael leave the small room. Frank has to help Michael the entire way. No sooner do they get in the corridor than they hear panting and other noises. They notice an open door at the end of the corridor. Inside that room is Keamy and Omar. Omar is strapping an electrical device of some sort on Keamy’s left bicep. There is also a strap around Keamy’s naked chest. The two parties look at each other, a little taken back.
FRANK: Hey, boss. Just getting him down to the engine room.

Omar slams the door shut. Frank leads Michael away. On deck Captain Gault assists Sayid in getting back to the island utilizing a Zodiac raft with an outboard motor. Desmond refuses to go and remains on the freighter. Captain Gault has one more confrontation with Keamy before the night is over.
The helicopter is being loaded with various munitions. Doc Ray is preparing to go with Keamy’s team to the island. Frank walks toward the helicopter with a quizzical look upon his face. He addresses Keamy.
FRANK: What are you gonna do with all that?
KEAMY: Fire her up, Frank.
FRANK: I’m not taking you.
Keamy walks angrily to Frank and they are now face to face. Frank stands his ground.
KEAMY: I'll kill you, Frank
FRANK: Yeah, well, you do that, you'll never get back to the island 'cause I'm the only pilot you got.
Keamy walks back to Doc Ray and Omar. He takes a knife from his waistband holder and slits Doc Ray’s neck open. He then throws Doc Ray overboard. Frank and Desmond watch in disgust and shock.
KEAMY: That change anything, Frank? Huh? Another 30 seconds goes by and someone else's turn.
A gunshot breaks thru the night air. Frank quickly turns around since the shot came from behind him. Gault approaches Keamy with gun aimed at him. Frank watches as Captain Gault and Keamy exchange words. Captain Gault is ordering Keamy to stand down. Keamy kills Doc Ray, tosses his body overboard, then he catches Captain Gault off guard and shoots him. With 2 men killed in a matter of moments, Keamy addresses Frank again.

KEAMY: Hey! What’ll it be, Frank?
FRANK: (pausing) We’re flying.
KEAMY: Come on. Let's go, boys. Come on! Get the rest of the weapons onboard, and let's go. Let's go! Let's get out of here. Let's move out!

Frank gets in the cockpit of the chopper and powers it up. He takes a satellite phone, turns it on, sets it then wraps it in a yellow and black cloth and puts the bundle in a cloth bag. He puts the cloth bag on the floor between his feet. The chopper takes off from the freighter to begin its journey to the island.

On the beach the faint sound of the chopper is heard in the distance approaching the island beach. As it gets louder people begin to gather. Jin, Sun, Kate and the rest of the red shirts all gather together looking at the light of the approaching chopper. They are feeling close to rescue and it shows on their faces. As the chopper flies overhead, Frank tosses the cloth bag out of the chopper. It lands on one of the tent tops causing the tent to collapse. We can hear the rapid beeping from the sat phone. Kate and Juliet retrieve the bag. Jack then gets the satellite phone and assumes it is sent as a message for him to follow the phone’s co-ordinates.

Meanwhile, Locke, Ben and Hurley find Jacob’s cabin. Locke enters alone. When he returns to Ben and Hurley he tells them that he was told to move the island. The episode ends.
Episode 12 Season 4 Finale Part 1 – There’s No Place Like Home Part

The episode commences with a flash-forward the O6 (Aaron, Kate, Sun, Sayid, Hurley and Jack) being flown aboard a Coast Guard plane after being rescued from the island of Sumba. There is a press conference and Sayid reunites with Nadia.

On the beach, Jack and his group listen to the chatter on the satellite phone which was dropped by Frank. The status of the phone is monitor. There is the sound of static and beeping being emitted from the phone.
KEAMY: (Over phone) Put it down over there.
JULIET: Is that from the chopper?
DANIEL: Sh.
FRANK: (Over phone) We're still 5 clicks from the site.
KEAMY: (Over phone) I said put it down, Frank. Okay, gear up, boys. Soon as we hit the ground, we deploy to the Orchid. Heads down! Let's do this. (Static)
Up coming scenes switch from the beach, helicopter, Orchid station, jungle, freighter and flash-forwards of the O6. We next encounter Frank when Jack and Sawyer find him. Frank is handcuffed to the helicopter.

SAWYER: Well, all right. Can I get you boys a nice, cold glass of lemonade while I'm back there?
JACK: Where are Desmond and Sayid?
FRANK: Your buddies were smart enough to keep their asses on the boat because right now that's the safest place to be. Because when the boys that I brought over here come stompin' out of this jungle, you're gonna wanna be long gone.
JACK: Where'd they go?
FRANK: They're up by some greenhouse, perched up there, waitin' to snatch Linus.
JACK: Soon as we cut you free, you'll be able fly us out of here?
SAWYER: Hang on, Shaggy. You said the hit squad's gonna grab Ben Linus?
FRANK: Well, I don't see what's gonna stop 'em.
SAWYER: What are they gonna do with the people that are with 'em?
FRANK: Nothin' good.
SAWYER: (To Jack) Hugo's with Ben.
JACK: (Sighs) Son of a bitch.

Jack and Sawyer leave Frank to look for Hurley, Ben and Locke who are headed for the Orchid station. Flash-forward to the memorial service for Christian Shephard, Jack’s father. He learns the Claire is his stepsister. Sun, Jin and Aaron are now on the freighter and meet up with Michael. Michael and Desmond discover explosives, which can be detonated remotely, and try to defuse it. In the jungle Richard Alpert and the Others capture Kate and Sayid. Ben, Hurley and Locket find the Orchid station where Ben becomes Keamy’s prisoner. The episode ends.
Episode Parts 2 and 3 Season 4 Finale – There’s No Place Like Home
The episode commences with a flash-forward scene of Jack and Kate outside an airport cyclone fence. Jack is trying to convince Kate that everyone must go back to the island. Kate refuses. The scene quickly changes the Orchid where we see Hurley, Jack, Locke and Sawyer. We are then switched to the freighter where Desmond, Michael and Jin are trying to figure a way to neutralize the detonator to the mound of C4. The last switch takes us to the jungle where Keamy and his mercenaries are marching Ben back to the helicopter. We first meet Frank at this point in the episode.
Keamy and the mercenarires hear metal rattling. The helicopter is very near, and Frank tries to un-handcuff himself from it using a pair of pliers.

KEAMY: Hey! How'd he get the toolbox?
Keamy marches up to Frank.
FRANK: Damn.
Frank throws the pliers away into the helicopter.
KEAMY: Who gave you the toolbox, Frank?
FRANK: Well--
KEAMY: (Forcefully, in Lapidus's face) Hey!

Kate comes out of the jungle with her hands raised. Frank looks in the direction of a branch snapping. Keamy and company focus on the jungle and forget about Frank, Kate and Ben. As the shooting ensues, Frank is ducking since he is still handcuffed to the helicopter. There is a battle between Keamy’s men and unseen assailants. Kate and Ben run to the jungle. Frank, still handcuffed, screams as a grenade lands near the helicopter. The only place for him to hide is in the helicopter. Keamy goes after Ben and Kate and is intercepted by Sayid. Richard Alpert comes upon Ben and Kate. It was Richard’s group who attacked Keamy’s group. Ben goes with Richard. Richard says that Frank, Kate, Sayid, the helicopter and the rest of the survivors are allowed to leave the island. Kate and Sayid return to the helicopter where Frank is.

We flash-forward to the Santa Rosa Mental Facility where Walt and his grandmother visit Hurley. Back to the present in the jungle Jack, Hurley and Sawyer are going back to the helicopter. Locke decides to stay on the island. Ben returns to Orchid. Ben and Locke enter the Orchid. Ben starts loading metal objects into a closet-sized like room. Locke is watching a video about how not to put metal objects in it. We learn about traveling time bunnies and that is what the closet is for.
Daniel is ferrying people from the island to the freighter with the Zodiac raft. Charlotte and Miles decide to remain on the island. At the helicopter are Frank, Kate, Jack, Sayid, Hurley and Sawyer. Frank is still handcuffed to the helicopter and finally gets some assistance.

SAWYER: Hey, Kenny Rogers. What you trying to do there, pick a lock?
FRANK: You got a better idea?
SAWYER: Hacksaw.
FRANK: For the handcuffs, right?
SAWYER: Ay. All right, all right.
As Sawyer finishes cutting Frank free of the handcuffs, they all get in the helicopter and prepare to leave the island.

FRANK: All right! Let's get the hell outta here!
The rotors are spinning and the helicopter is powering up.
FRANK: Hands and feet inside the vehicle! Let's go for a ride!
Desmond, Michael and Jin are still trying to prevent the C4 from exploding by pouring liquid nitrogen on the detonator. Back on the helicopter, Frank is encountering mechanical problems. There is whirring from the rotors and knobs clicking.

JACK: What's the matter?
FRANK: We're losing fuel.
JACK: What?!
FRANK: We're losing fuel! Look outside! We have a fuel leak! A bullet must have pierced the tank! We gotta find a place to set her down!
JACK: No, don't land!
FRANK: What?!
JACK: There's no fuel on the island! We've gotta get to the boat, or this chopper's useless!
JACK: Well, then keep looking!

FRANK: We gotta get every ounce of extra weight off this chopper now! Anything that's not bolted down, toss it out!
FRANK: I'd feel a hell of a lot better if we were a few hundred pounds lighter! Well, if we don't make it, we're still close enough to ditch it on the beach.
JACK: Hey! Do not go back to the island!
FRANK:We might not have a choice, Doc.
SAWYER: Hey... (whispering indistinctly)
KATE: Why are you telling me this?
SAWYER: Just do it, Freckles.
KATE: Sawyer!
Sawyer jumps from the helicopter into the ocean.

We flash-forward to Sayid visiting Hurley at Santa Rosa then right back to the helicopter Frank is trying to locate the freighter.
JACK: Where's the freighter?
FRANK: I don't know. I stayed on course. They must have it on the move again.
JACK: How much fuel?
FRANK: Four, five minutes worth, unless somebody else wants to jump.
JACK: As soon as we get to the boat, we'll go.back for him.
HURLEY: Hey! There it is! The boat! I see it! Behind us!
At the Orchid, Keamy returns. Ben and Keamy fight. Ben kills Keamy. On the freighter Michael and Jin are still working to delay the detonation of the C4. Desmond is trying to prevent Frank from landing the helicopter on the freighter.

DESMOND: Oh, bloody hell. Don't land! You can't land! Don't land! Don't land! There's a bomb! There's a bomb! Get away! There's a bomb! You can't land! Go back!
JACK: Did he say "bomb"?
DESMOND: Don't land!
JACK: What are you doing?!
FRANK: I don't care what the hell he's screaming! I'm flying on fumes! I gotta put this bird down!
DESMOND: No! Don't land! (Hissing) No! No! Look, you don't understand! Jin and Michael are doing everything they can, but there's no time! You've gotta get off the boat now!
(Grunts) (knocks)
JACK: How long till we can fly again?
FRANK: Somebody patch the other hole where the bullet came out!
DESMOND: Give it to me. I'll do it.
FRANK: Here! Somebody pump some gas!
JACK: I'll handle the fuel.
FRANK: Get that life raft right there! Come on! Let's go!
Aaron crying
KATE: Hey, Sun! Sun! Where you going? We gotta go.
SUN: Jin's below with Michael. I can't--
KATE: No, no, there's no time! There's no time. We have to go.
SUN: I won't leave him!
KATE: Okay. You get the baby on the chopper. I'll get Jin. All right?
FRANK: Just keep pumping till I get it started! That'll be enough to get us to the island

There is chaos on the freighter. Michael tells Jin to leave him and go to his pregnant wife. Christian appears and tells Michael he can go. On the deck of the freighter, people are scurrying about. Jin is running toward the helicopter screaming. As the helicopter departs from the freighter, the freighter explodes. There are words between Jack, Kate and Sun. Frank is being the pilot making logical decisions about its safetly and those aboard. He cannot return to the freighter area to look for Jin. Jack is making all decisions with no input from anyone.

SUN: Go back lower! We have to go find Jin!
JACK: Sun, there's nobody down there!
SUN: You can't see anything from here!
FRANK: We didn't get enough fuel! We can't go back!
SUN: Go lower! I know he's there!
KATE: Sun, I'm--Sun, I'm so sorry.
JACK: He's not--
SUN: He's down there! I know he's down there!
FRANK: We gotta go!
SUN: No! I'm not leaving him!
SAYID: Can't get to him!
SUN: No, we're not leaving him! We're not! Turn back around!
JACK: Sun! Sun! It's gone!
Aaron wailing
JACK: He's gone.
Aaron continues wailing as Kate tries to comfort him.
JACK: Lapidus! Fly us back to the island.
FRANK: You got it.
SUN: No! (Sobbing) No! No! (Shrieking) No!

There is a flash-forward to London where Sun walks over to Widmore. She confronts him about who she is and tells him that they have common interests and for him to contact her when he is ready to discus the matter. We switch back to the island where Locke confronts Ben and Ben tells Locke to leave the Orchid. Locke meets up with Richard Alpert and is welcomed home. At the same time Sawyer walks out of the ocean and to Juliet who is sitting on the beach. Ben goes to a lower level of the Orchid and turns a frozen wheel. The sky changes color. The island seems to disappear. Frank can no longer see the island.
FRANK: Where's the island? Where's the island?! Where the hell's the island?!
JACK: It's gone.
FRANK: Where the hell am I gonna land this thing?!
JACK: There's another smaller island close by they took us to!
FRANK: I got news for ya, Doc. There's nothing but water in every direction!
Helicopter engine sputtering, alarm beeping
FRANK: Doesn't matter now. That's it, people! We're out of fuel!
Beeping continues, wind blowing loudly, rotors slowing down
FRANK: Get your life vests on! We're going in! Brace yourselves!
SAYID: Desmond! The life raft!
FRANK: Hold on!
The helicopter crashes into the ocean. The O6 plus Desmond and Frank are in the water. Frank is looking for people.

FRANK: Kate! Where is he?! Are you okay?
KATE: Hurley, carry the baby.
FRANK: Sayid, are you all right?
SAYID: Yes!
HURLEY: Jack!
FRANK: Where's Desmond?
KATE: Get the baby.
HURLEY: I got him.
FRANK: Desmond?! Jack! Give me a hand!
Everyone is finally in the raft and Jack resusitates Desmond. There is a short flash-forward where Claire tells Kate never to bring Aaron back to the Island. Meanwhile on the raft everyone tries to calm down. Hurley cannot believe Locke actually moved the island. Frank looks about and sees a boat in the offing.

FRANK: God almighty. There's a boat. There's a boat out there! There's a boat out there. Hey! There's a boat! You see it?! Hey! Hey! Hey! Over here! Does it see us?
DESMOND: I think it does!
DESMOND and HURLEY: : Hey!
FRANK: Is it turning? It's turning! Hey!
Jack discusses the O6 lie with Sayid..
FRANK: Jack... now I know I'm new to this group and everything, but isn't this the place where everybody starts jumping up and down and hugging each other?
JACK: Your freighter... those men came to the island to kill us, all of us. You said that our plane was discovered on the bottom of the ocean. Well, someone put it there--someone who wants everyone to think that we're dead. So what do you think's gonna happen to us when we tell them that that wasn't our plane? What do you think's gonna happen to the people that we left behind?
KATE: Jack, we can't. We can't pull it off.
JACK: Just let me do the talking.
The boat pulls up to the raft. Two men are speaking Portuguese. Suddenly we see Penny tell them to toss a rope to the raft. Desmond, Frank and the O6 board a boat named The Searcher. Desmond introduces everyone to Penny. After everyone is cleaned and refreshed they prepare for their next voyage. They are going to the island of Membata so they can perpetuate the lie. Frank helps everyone onto a raft. Desmond and Frank remain on The Searcher with Penny.

JACK: How long till we'll hit land?
FRANK: Well, if the wind's not too brutal... eight, nine hours. (Drops plank) Just long enough to give you a nice, convincing sunburn.
JACK: Well... it's been a pleasure, Frank. I hope we never see each other again.
FRANK: Roger that, Doc. (Chuckles) Bye, sweetheart.
As the episode and the season near the end we see the O6 being rescued by the people on the island of Membata. The closing scene is of Jack in Hoffs/Drawler Funeral Home. Ben enters. Jack is by the casket of Jeremy Bentham The two men talk and we then see Locke in the casket. Ben tells Jack that everyone must return to the island, including Locke. Episode and Season 4 concludes.

Season 5 starts with the Oceanic 6 dealing with what to do now that they are off the Island. It centers on their return to their lives, various situations. It also covers their journey of returning to the island and how they cope with their return. Frank is seen in six episodes. Some appearances are rather brief. Let's continue with Frank's journey on LOST.
Episode 1 - Because You Left - No appearance.
Episode 2 - The Lie
As the episode commences, the scene takes place 3 years ago in comparison to the ending of Episode 1. There is a man in the galley of a yacht opening a refrigerator and taking out 2 bottle of Jekyll Island beer. He takes the beer and climbs some steps and is on the deck of Penny's yacht. We now see that it is Frank Lapidus. He teeters a bit and hands one of the bottles to Desmond who is sitting next to Penny.

FRANK: They're still at it huh?
He continues walking and teeters to the side railing of the yacht a bit away from the conversation that is ongoing. Jack is leading a meeting of the group that was rescued by the crew of Penny's yacht. They are trying to decide what to say to the world when they return since it has been reported that the remains of the plane and passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 have been found at the bottom of the Sundra Trench. Jack believes they should lie about what happened and is now going in a circle to have a vote on this plan. As Jack goes from person to person, he reaches Frank.

JACK: Frank?
[Frank looks over to Jack.]
FRANK: What?
JACK: Sorry you got dragged into this but we need to know that you're with us.
FRANK: Whatever you guys decide I'll just roll with.
The conversation continues. This ends Frank's appearance for the episode.
Episode 3 - Jughead - No appearance.
Episode 4 - The Little Prince - No appearance.
Episode 5 - This Place is Death - No appearance.
Episode 6 - 316
The episode focuses on Ajira Flight 316 that is to take 5 of the 6 Oceanic survivors back to the island. Aaron is not one of the passengers. The flight needs to recreate the conditions of Oceanic 815 in order for the return to be successful. This is not possible so the outcome is somewhat unpredictable. Jack's conversation with Kate is interrupted by a voice heard from the PA system.
FRANK: Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Ajira Air. This is your captain Frank J. Lapidus and on behalf of the entire flight crew, welcome aboard.
[Jack, Hurley and Kate sit up and take notice.]
FRANK: Currently we are right on schedule and we're flying at a very comfortable thirty thousand feet. So sit back and relax and enjoy the in-flight movie.
[Jack gets up and walks to outside the cockpit area where the flight attendant is.]
Jack convinces the Flight Attendant that he needs to speak with the pilot. She gets him to take a seat. Using the intercom phone, she relays the message to the pilot As she hangs up, Frank exits the cockpit and walks over to Jack. Frank is clean-shaven and in uniform bearing captain's bars. They are still in the attendant area outside the cockpit door.

FRANK: [smiles] Well hello Doc.
[Jack gets up and walks to Frank.]
FRANK: Small world.
[They shake hands.]
FRANK: What are you doing going to Guam?
JACK: What are you doing here Frank?
FRANK: I picked up this gig about eight months ago. Fly this around all the time. Sometimes I take the big birds into New …
[Frank stops and looks into the first class cabin. His eyes find Sayid.]
[FRANK: …Delhi. Is [pause] that Sayid? And Hurley. [he sees Kate and Sun] Wait a second. [eyebrows raised] We're not going to Guam, are we?
The episode continues however this in the end of Frank's appearance.
Episode 7 - The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham - No appearance.
Episode 8 - LaFleur - No appearance.
Episode 9 - Namaste
The episode opens with Frank and the co-pilot flying Ajira 316 through a night sky. Everything is calm in the plane's main cabin. Passengers are sleeping or trying to keep busy. The co-pilot jokes with Frank about Hurley being one of the Oceanic 6 and having the nerve to fly over the Pacific Ocean again after surviving a commercial airliner crash. Frank tries to change the conversation and tells the co-pilot that perhaps Hurley doesn't think that lightning will strike twice in the same place. Suddenly the plane starts to rock then stops. The Oceanic survivors take note of the change in the plane's stability. Suddenly Frank notices something with the gauges and the feel of the plane

FRANK: Oh, no.
COPILOT: What?
[The plane begins to shutter consistently. Frank and the copilot begin switching levers and pushing buttons]
COPILOT: Auto-pilot off?
FRANK: I have the controls.
COPILOT: Auto-pilot off, you have the controls.
FRANK: Full right rudder.
Everyone in the cabin is being tossed about. A bright light, like the time skip white flash, occurs and the plane is now out of the clouds and in daylight. Frank is frantically checking all the gauges. The co-pilot is trying to figure what Frank is doing and then an automated voice is heard.

AUTOMATED VOICE: Stall. Stall. Stall.
FRANK: We’ve lost power.
COPILOT: Restarting One. Restarting Two. [Flips switches] Altimeter reading, six fifty.
FRANK: Oh my, God. [The plane is heading towards a towering mountain peak] Give me more power. I can pull us out of this.
COPILOT: You’re gonna rip us apart!
FRANK: DO IT!
[COPILOT throttles the engines and Frank pulls on the controls as the plane struggles to climb]
FRANK: Come on. Come on.
[Frank steers the plane around the peak, banking left. The copilot is scanning the area.]
COPILOT: Is that a runway?
FRANK: Massive instrument failure. We’re putting her down.
COPILOT: Mayday, mayday, mayday! This is Aljira three one six. Mayday, mayday, mayday!
AUTOMATED VOICE:…four, eight, fifteen, sixteen…
FRANK: Full flaps?
COPILOT: Gear down! Airspeed: One Ninety. Coming in too steep.
[The plane continues to descend as the Frank and Copilot steady their efforts on the landing. The wheels touch ground.]
FRANK: Reverse thrusters!
[The plane is now sliding along the dirt runway heading towards a dense tree line.]
COPILOT: Come on!
FRANK: We’re running out, we’re running out. Hold on. Brace for impact.
After the impact Frank awakens and finds himself covered in blood and his shirt is torn. He looks to the co-pilot who has been impaled by a tree branch. He gets up and goes out of the cockpit to assess the damage in the passenger cabins. As he slowly proceeds, taking account of everything he hears Sun's voice. Ben interrupts their talk.

SUN: Frank.
FRANK: Sun. You alright?
SUN: Oh my, God. What happened?
FRANK: I don’t know.
[The two work towards the aisle and stand. Frank looks around the cabin.]
FRANK: Where’s everyone else? Jack? Kate? Hurley? Where’d they go?
BEN: They’re gone.[Standing behind Frank and Sun near an open cabin door.]
FRANK: Gone? Gone where?
BEN: How would I know?
Frank looks quizzically at Ben and the scene ends. The episode progresses with situations facing those who time skipped back to 1974, their current lives in 1977. Jack, Kate, Hurley and Sayid are trying to adjust as Sawyer, Juliet, Miles and Jin are trying to keep their new lives from changing. The episode changes between the group in 1977 and the group in 2007. Frank is one of the 2007 group
As Captain of Flight 316, he must now work to take care of all the passengers and create calm after this crash. He does his best however he is experiencing push back from one of the passengers, Caesar.

FRANK: [Shouting behind the two woman] Can I get everyone’s attention. Everybody, please. [People gather around Frank and pay attention.] Listen up folks, here’s where we’re at. The radio’s dead so I haven’t been able to call in our situation but that’s alright soon as they figure out we’re not where we’re supposed to be they’ll come looking for us. So the best thing to do right now is just stick together, stick together hunker down and just wait ‘till help gets here.
CAESAR: And where’s here?
FRANK: What’s that?
CAESAR: Where is here? [Approaches Frank] What is this place?
FRANK: I don’t know where here is because this island’s not on my charts.
CAESAR: Really?
FRANK: Really.
CAESAR: Because there are some buildings over there.
[Points into the jungle towards the plane] And animal cages. Down the beach, we can see a big island across the water. So maybe you should get some new charts.
As this is happening, Ben slinks back toward the tree line and walks away from the beach. Sun sees this, follows and confronts him. Ben taunts her about going back to the main island with him.
The episode continues with life and its complications in the Dharma compound in 1977 and its new "recruits." Eventually the episode returns to 2007 with Sun still following Ben. A noise is heard in the jungle and it is Frank. He has followed them because of his concern for Sun's safety.
FRANK: SUN?!
SUN: Over here.
[Frank emerges from the jungle and quickly approaches Ben and Sun.]
BEN:Hello, Frank.
FRANK: [To Sun.] You alright?
SUN: Yes, I’m fine.
FRANK: I got worried when I couldn’t find ya. I saw him leave. What are you doing out here?
SUN: Ben knows where there’s a boat. I’m going back to the main Island with him.
FRANK: You don’t think you can really trust this guy? Do ya?
SUN: I have to trust him.

Sun continues to follow Ben and Frank stays with them. He is still very concerned about Sun's welfare. He has already seen what Ben is capable of in Season 4. They eventually emerge from a sandy path from the jungle. Ben removes foliage that is covering outriggers. As he prepares to use one to take him and Sun to the main island, Frank shows his continuing concern for Sun's safety and she shows Frank that she is well aware of what she is doing.
FRANK: Sun! I want you to think about this, ok. This guy is dangerous! [Sun looks at Frank while removing the branches from the outrigger] Sun that boat I came here on was filled with commandos whose only mission was to get him.
BEN: And how’d that work out for everyone?
FRANK: [To Sun.] Don’t do it.
SUN: Why don’t you come with us?
FRANK: I can’t. I have a group of people I gotta look after.
BEN: That’s right Frank. [Standing in front of Frank] A captain’s first responsibility is to his passengers. [Frank notices something over Ben’s shoulder.] But I have people I have to take care of, too. [Ben turns toward the Island pointing.] There’s a small dock about a half mile due south across the water. It leads to a town where I used to live. [Sun lifts an oar from the outrigger] There are resources there. So if anyone can help you and the rest of plane get out of here safely… [Sun smacks Ben in the back of the head with the oar. Ben falls to the ground, unconscious.]
FRANK: I thought you trusted this guy? [smiling]
SUN: [looking down, then up at Frank.] I lied.

The episode goes back to the folks in 1977 then returns again to show Sun and Frank paddling an outrigger to a dock on the larger Island. As they arrive and get ready to disembark from the outrigger, Frank is unsure that this plan is viable. The area appears abandoned and the dock is in disarray.
FRANK: You wanna remind me why the hell we’re doing this?
SUN: Ben said if my husband is on the Island the best place to start looking for him is here. [Steps out of the outrigger onto the dock]
FRANK: Oh, I see that’s the advice you took before you whacked him in the head. [Steps out of the outrigger onto the dock.
[They begin to walk, Frank checks his flashlight. There are items scattered on the dock and barrels are floating in the water nearby. The wind begins to blow and several, but not all the trees on the tree line begin to sway and bend.]
FRANK: Whoa. Tell me you saw that.
SUN: Probably just an animal.
FRANK: An animal, right.
[The two continue walking. They approach a group of seemingly abandoned buildings and a sign is squeaking while it sways.]
FRANK: I’m sorry to say Sun, but I don’t think we’re going to find your husband here. Maybe we ought to just head back?

A light goes on in the Processing Center. Frank and Sun turn to see a shadow pass by a window. The door opens up and Christian exits. He greets them and Frank reacts.
FRANK: Who the hell are you?
CHRISTIAN: My name is Christian.
SUN: I’m looking for my husband. His name is Jin Kwon. Do you know where he is?
CHRISTIAN: [Lowers his head, then looks at Sun.] Follow me.
[Sun and Frank exchange uneasy glances.]
Sun and Frank enter the old building. Christian walks to a walk and takes a dusty picture down from it. He feebly dusts it off and hands it to Sun. It is a picture of Dharma's 1977 recruits complete with Jack, Kate and Hurley in Dharma jumpsuits.

Episode 12 - Dead is Dead
As this episode commences, we are first in 1977 after Sayid has shot young Ben and Richard has brought him to the Temple to be healed. Charles Widmore is none to happy about this situation. As the scene plays out we are then back at the beach in 2007. We have met some new characters in addition to Caesar, Ilana and her associates. Ben is puttering around the beach trying to come up with a new plan since Sun had already left him unconscious and took one of the outriggers and Frank with her to the Island. We switch back and forth between 2007 and 1977 several times. Ben now is working with Locke, alive again after being killed my Ben off island, to take another outrigger and go to the main island again. They eventually get to the cabin where Ben used to live. They witness a shadow move across the window of Alex's bedroom. Ben is angry and curious and enters the house. He goes straight to Alex's room and startles Sun inside. Frank quickly hears her joins her in the room and addresses Ben.

FRANK: What are you doin' here?
BEN: This used to be my house. I saw a light turned on. What are the two of you doing here?
[Frank picks up a framed picture and hands it to Ben. It is a picture of the Dharma folks in coveralls. Kate and Hurley are front and center in the picture.]
After a few words about the picture Ben wants to know how they came into possession of it. Frank explains.
FRANK: We met some crazy old man outside.
SUN: He said his name was Christian. He told us to come in here and wait.

They explain that they were told to wait for Locke and he would help Sun find Jin. Frank expresses his disbelief in this coming to fruition since he knows that Locke is dead. Ben insists the two of them look outside the window to see Locke waving back at them. Locke then joins the three in the room and Sun continues to talk to Locke about finding Jin. Frank is concerned for Sun again.
FRANK: As long as the dead guy says there's a reason then I guess everything's gonna be just peachy. And forget about the fact that the rest of your people are supposedly thirty years ago, now the only ones are here to help us are [points to Ben] a murderer and a guy who can't seem to remember how the hell he got out of a coffin. Sun, please, let's just go back to the plane and see if I can fix the radio and maybe we can get some help.
Sun insists that she must stay and look for Jin no matter what. Frank tells her that he can no longer remain with her. He must get back to the passengers of Ajira 316 whom he left on the beach.

FRANK: I'm sorry to say but I'm leaving, with or without ya.
SUN: If there's any chance of finding my husband then I have to stay.
FRANK: Alright. [pause, deep exhale] Well for God's sake, watch your back.
Frank leaves Sun and returns to the smaller island. Upon his return he is approached by one of the passengers who is frantic. Frank tries to calm him.
MAN: Captain Lapidus! Captain Lapidus! You're back! Thank God! They found guns!
FRANK: What are you talking about? Who found guns?
MAN: Ilana and three of the others. They said they were in charge now.
FRANK: Where are they?

Frank follows the man along the beach and finds Ilana. Her crew is adapting a metal crate to be able to be carried by her crew as if they were pallbearers. Frank confronts Ilana and pays dearly for it.
FRANK: What's going on?
ILANA: What lies in the shadow of the statue?
FRANK: What?
[One of the men working with Ilana picks up a rifle and faces Frank.]
HUSKY MAN: Answer the question!
ILANA: What lies in the shadow of the statue?
[Frank looks, smiles, chuckles.]
FRANK: I have no idea what….
Ilana proceeds to hit Frank with the butt end of her rifle square in his jaw. He falls to the ground. Before he becomes unconscious he hears one last line from Ilana.

ILANA: Get everyone else. Tell them it's time and tie him up. He's coming with us.
As Frank passes out the episode switches back to Locke assisting Ben in preparing for his judgment.
This ends Frank's appearance in this episode.

Episode 15 - Follow the Leader - No appearance.
Episode 16 - The Incident Part 1
The episode opens with Jacob and an unidentified man chatting. After this scene the episode focuses mainly on Jacob and his visits to the Oceanic survivors during their lifetimes. There is also a focus during 1977 where the characters there are trying to survive and are at odds as to what is the best course of action. For this walk through the focus will be in 2007 and where Frank appears.
Frank is first seen as Ilana and Bram are pulling the outrigger onto the shore of the island. Frank is lying unconscious, from Ilana's gun butt to his jaw, in the outrigger. As the occupants of the outrigger disembark, Ilana and Bram are discussing what to do with Frank.

BRAM: (indicating Lapidus) Why'd we even bring this yahoo?
ILANA:Because, we might need him.
BRAM: For what? He didn't know the answer to the question.
ILANA: That doesn't mean he's not important.
BRAM: What, you think he's a candidate?
Ilana looks down at Frank and realizes that he is no longer unconscious. She now wonders what, if any, part of her conversation he may have heard. Upon being discovered that he is conscious, Frank opens his eyes. Bram is surprised and asks Frank what he has heard. Apparently, Frank has heard enough to feel uneasy about the situation, especially since it concerns him.

BRAM: How long you been listenin' to us?
FRANK: Long enough to wonder what the hell I'm a candidate for.
[Lapidus struggles to sit up. Bram appears agitated when he steps over to Lapidus but instead of hurting him, grabs one of his arms and helps him up and out of the canoe to face Ilana.]
FRANK: Who the hell are you people?
ILANA: We're friends.
FRANK: So, you smack all your friends in the face with a rifle, shove 'em in a boat and kidnap 'em?
ILANA: Only the ones we like.
Bram has changed his treatment of Frank. He hands Frank a canteen so he can drink and quench his thirst. Bram walks over to the crate where the three other crew members are and the four men bring the crate onto the beach. Frank asks Ilana what is in the crate. Frank is not happy with his discovery.
FRANK: (to Ilana) What's in the box?
[Ilana blinks and looks over to Bram, who along with the other men set the crate down on the sand. She inquires of him with a raised eyebrow expression.]
BRAM: Your call.
[Ilana looks at Lapidus again, who simply stares back at her, then she walks over towards the crate.]
ILANA: Open it.
[The other three men open the latches holding the top on and open the crate. Ilana walks around to the other side of it and looks down at the contents inside. Lapidus steps over next to the crate to see for himself. Ilana looks up at Lapidus, who squints and stares at what has been revealed to him.]
FRANK: [I]Terrific.

The group now proceeds to walk through the jungle. Bram and the three other men are carrying the crate. Ilana is at the lead position and she has her rifle ready if it needs to be used. Frank is walking alongside Bram. He is walking freely with his wrist not bound. He chats with Bram about the box and the group. He is trying to understand exactly what is happening and why.
FRANK: I wish you'd never showed me what was in this damned box. What the hell are you gonna do with it anyways?
BRAM: We need to show it to somebody.
FRANK: What for?
BRAM: So they'll know who they're up against.
FRANK: What exactly are they up against?
BRAM: Something a helluva lot scarier than what's in this box, Frank. Don't worry, though. As long as you're with us, you're fine.
FRANK: That'd be reassuring if I knew who you were, friend.
BRAM: We're the good guys.
FRANK: In my experience, the people who go out of their way to tell you they're the good guys are the bad guys.
The group stops at an abandoned cabin, looks inside, finds a piece of tapestry, and then decides to burn the cabin so that it can no longer be used by anyone. Frank is concerned about their burning of this cabin and the method employed.

FRANK: (to Bram) I'm no tree-hugger but uh... that's a pretty good way to torch the jungle, don't ya think?
This ends Frank's appearance in this episode.
Episode 17 - The Incident Part 2

Frank has no dialogue in this episode. His only appearance is when Ilana and her team march onto the beach area next to the foot of the four-toed statue. She speaks with Richard and the episode continues.
