View Full Version : The "What happens to Faraday" theory

Alright, this theory is based on the comic con Dharma video that was shown yesterday. The video features Marvin Candle who reveals himself to be named Pierre Chang. The video is time travel heavy where he fortells Bush being President and the internet and the fall of Dharma. He also talks about a "reliable source" and then an off camera voice tells him that "none of that matters." Many people speculate that the voice belongs to Daniel Faraday and I believe that it is a VERY safe bet. But how does he travel "backwards?" Why isn't he with the other island folk?

My theory is pretty much that the island time properties are infrequent. Meaning that leaving at different coordinates can take you different places. Like how the rocket took so long to reach the island, but Doctor Ray washed up onto shore before he even died. It seems that the island might just be the "Nexus" of all time travel. Now if coming and going from certain coordinates result in stuff traveling either ahead or behind in time, imagine what would happen when the island moved. Everyone ON the island will probably end up at the same place, because the island is a chunk of land mass, as well that it seems to be what the time stream is centered around. But the surrounding areas are "undefined" meaning that it is a crap shoot that those outside the island will end up in the same place the island travels. In fact, since there seems to be only a few cracks in the time "barrier" between the island and where the freighter was docked, that those caught inbetween during the "move" will themselves be LOST in time.

With that said, I don't think Faraday is going with the island. I think he, and hopefully Jin, will end up kind of shifting between island times. So he will travel 30 years in the past and even fluxuate through different time periods on the island. This could be the new form of storytelling that Darlton were talking about at the Con.

I agree with everything Doc....

Island- stays in given time frame but physically moved to another point on Earth
Faraday- Sent 30 years back in the past
Jin- My guess, 5 years or so in the Future??

If this does happen, why would Jin and Faraday end up in different times? They must've been pretty close to each other, since all the redshirts with Faraday don't survive. This is assuming that Jin lives. Which I have to : )

This would be an interesting dynamic. Jin is probably the most down-to-earth character on the show, and Faraday might be the least.

There's also the possibility that the turning of the wheel opens up the time traveling possibilities, and those left behind on the island figure out a way to use it, even for short periods of time (hence the "pinhole" that Chang was referring to). And maybe even Charlie's visit to Hurley.

This could go in a lot of different directions, yeah?

If I were to have to guess, where everyone ended up:

The Island: I'm going to say ten years in the future
Ben: Transported to later in the year 2005
O6: Didn't time travel at all
Faraday: Partying with Marvin Candle in the 70's
Jin: Hundreds of years ago on the island to encounter it's original inhabitants (???)

So what this means is that several people were splintered in time when the island was moved. Throughout the season, I still expect to see some FF and FB's but I think most of it will be told through these different time periods. With the island existing ten years in the future, perhaps Locke and crew find out exactly what they need to do and what their purpose is. Also, I'd think that there would be somebody waiting for the island to reappear so they can invade (Widmore, Paik, Walt, etc.). Jin is in the far past, so finally we can discover what is up with the hostiles, the four toed statue, the black rock, etc. I think Daniel's time with Dharma might extend all the way to the purge, so he can witness all of the gaps in that story. Danielle's story, Annie, what drove Ben mad, etc.

By the end of the season, in real time the O6 will be on their way, Daniel finds a way to communicate with the present and Jin discovers the properties of the island and help with the creation with the donkey wheel, being at the right place at the right time. I'd imagine some of others were still on Alcatraz building the run way. This all leads up to Locke having to turn destroy the donkey wheel to somehow get Daniel and Jin back to their times, B) Open it to the Oceanic 6 and C) Travel backwards to Tunisia to warn the Oceanic 6 and eventually get killed. Minutes after the island moves again, a plane is seen in the distance and lands in the alcatraz runway. The O6 (minus one) and the rest with Locke's body exit the plane. But at the same moment another vehicle enters the distance with the name "Widmore" printed on them.

Yes, I got all of that from the new Dharma video!
