ETA: Personally I love it. Simple and classy, and it has the entire cast. This show is such an ensemble, to only have a few faces on it would be wrong. Maybe the color scheme will change each season but keeping the style of the box the same. Like the Friends DVD sets, if anyone has ever seen those.
Edited again to add:
news! a 7 disc set! (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=3196) and preorder it here! (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?tag=losttheunoffa-20&path=tg/detail/-/B00005JNOG/qid=1111153777/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl74?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846)

Damn, I wish that was out sooner! It looks great though. The Friends Box set would be a good target to aim for. They were done very well with the color schemes and the updated pics of each actor every season. You could see the evolution of the looks of each character.
now where's the video game ?
I think there should be a thread describing viewers personnal ideas for a lost game..maybe it will push its production along...
my first thought is to have it done by the makers of Myst.

I have played and completed Myst and since the beginning I have felt that LOST in many ways compares to Myst!

I never noticed this before about that picture... maybe cause it wasn't as clear the last time I saw it, but...
Any signifigance to Walt being at one end of the cast, and Locke being at the other?

Well, I am not quite as knowledgable on some of this stuff and I have not read anyone who absolutely confirmed that there was going to be more than 1 season so I did not want to get my hopes up. But the box pretty much sums it up for me.
Oooh, yeah, the show's ratings are GREAT, there's definitely going to be a 2nd season. Even though "officially" I don't think it's been announced, the writers and creators have pretty much confirmed it. Sleep easy tonight! lol.

Ooh, Kathy Fan, that is something! I never would have thought of that :D .
Locke said it to Walt during the backgammon game. "There are 2 sides...one is light, one is dark".

What's the average price for a season of tv on dvd? 60 bucks seems a little steep to me, but I've heard that all tv dvd's are expensive.
What's the average price for a season of tv on dvd? 60 bucks seems a little steep to me, but I've heard that all tv dvd's are expensive.
The X-Files DVDs are 70-90. Which is the only reason I won't buy them, that, literally, is a monopoly. Fox has no right to charge that much for an hour long show when every other hour long show costs less. I refuse to give in to Fox. [/end rant]
Anyway...$60 is the suggest retail dreamfall. You'll be able to get it in Walmart for about $41-45. And other stores you'll see it for $60-75. Make sure you get it from Walmart! Or, if you preorder on Amazon.com right now it's $41.
$40-45 is normal for an hour long television show. Especially since this season has more episodes than the normal for 1 season of a show and has tons more extras than most shows ever put out.
The Friends DVD box sets are $35 and that's only a half hour long show.

03-11-05, 08:52 PM
Okay, thanks. I was thinking it would cost the same as a movie, but I guess an entire season of a tv show is much longer.
Guess I better start saving up now. I was due to get my first job this summer anyway. :D
Yeah, $40-45ish dollars from Walmart or Amazon.com really isn't that bad considering most movies are $20...and that's only 1.5 hours of a show. This is WAY longer, and only the price of about 2 movies :) .

That is the most gorgious thing I have ever seen. *wipes away tear* Just kidding about the crying, but not by much. I love everything about this show and cant wait till its out. I just think its kinda funny that they haven't even finished the season and are already coming out with it!:lol I guess that just shows how popular the show really is.
I want to see all the other art. Any covers that are inside the case. Any booklets. What the discs look like, etc. And not to mention...the DVD menus! Ahhhhh...so far away.
I never played it but I have seen the graphics, awesome look, I really think they could do LOST as a video game, Maybe even hide bigger clues in the game for the summers hiatus...
they can't exactly make action figures, How else will they market the show ?

03-12-05, 08:17 PM
The only way a Lost video game would work is if they focussed on a group of people that the show didn't. Like, maybe 5 or 6 other survivors. The game would unfold in semi-RPG mode I think, or Legend of Zelda-style puzzle mode, with flashback cut scenes now and then. This group would have their own mystery and own story, and probably interconnect with that of the other group. It could work, but not until Lost has been on a while longer, so the viewers, and potential game makers, know more about the island itself. You wouldn't want a video game to contradict the rest of the series, the fans would go nuts. I know I'd hate it.

I'm hoping we've all read all the special features also:
Bonus features for LOST: THE COMPLETE 1st SEASON include the never-before-seen, extended uncut version of the original pilot; exclusive, in-depth behind-the-scenes looks at the making of the show; backstage with Drive Shaft all-access pass behind the music; the art of Matthew Fox featurette; 'Before They Were Lost' original casting tapes; blooper reel; rare deleted scenes; and multiple filmmaker audio commentaries. Available for $59.99 for the six-disc DVD.
I would KILL to know who the 'multiple filmmakers' are who do the audio commentaries! Maybe I'll ask around the fuselage....
It's nice to see ABC & company take good care to the extra features part. I mean, that's what we really buy the show for isn't it? I could download and burn all the episodes once the DVD comes out and they hit the net, I don't need that. I care mainly about the extras...and this is loaded with them. Most TV box sets that come out still haven't realized the extras DO make a difference to the fans. Props to ABC!

BURBANK, Calif., March 15, 2005 - Touchstone Television's runaway hit LOST crashes onto DVD with a superb six-disc box set that includes the complete first season. Broadcast on ABC and one of the hottest shows on television, LOST is the newest action-packed mystery-thriller from J.J. Abrams, creator of "Alias." Join an excellent ensemble cast as they fight for survival on an island laden with secrets and suspense, and discover over five hours of exclusive bonus features in LOST: THE COMPLETE 1st SEASON, from Touchstone Television and Buena Vista Home Entertainment.
The September 6 release date is timed to give new and existing fans an opportunity to catch up with all 24 episodes (plus the five hours of exclusive bonus programming that includes the pilot), before the next season airs on ABC TV.
LOST: THE COMPLETE 1st SEASON is presented with theatrical style specifications - widescreen with a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Soundtrack - for an optimal viewing experience.
LOST is the thrilling adventure of 48 survivors of a plane crash, all stranded on an island that holds many secrets. Matthew Fox (Party of Five) stars as Jack, the quick-thinking doctor and group leader.
Stripped of everything, the 48 survivors scavenge what they can from the plane for their survival. Some panic. Some pin their hopes on rescue. A few find inner strength they never knew they had - like Kate (Evangeline Lilly, TV's Kingdom Hospital), who, with no medical training, suddenly finds herself suturing the doctor's wounds. Hurley (Jorge Garcia, TV's Becker) - a man with a warm sense of humor despite the desperate situation - does his best to keep his cool as he helps those around him to survive. Charlie (Dominic Monaghan, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy) is a faded rock star who harbors a painful secret. Sayid (Naveen Andrews, Bride and Prejudice) is a Middle Eastern man who must wrestle with the racial profiling directed at him by some of his fellow survivors.
Jin (Daniel Dae Kim, TV's 24) and Sun (Yunjin Kim, Shiri) are a Korean couple whose traditions, values and language are foreign and thus causes much to get lost in the translation. Sawyer (Josh Holloway, TV's Sabretooth) has an air of danger surrounding him, and his intense sense of mistrust for everyone around him could prove to be fatal to his fellow castaways. Michael (Harold Perrineau, The Matrix series) has just gained custody of his nine-year-old son, Walt (Malcolm David Kelley, Antwone Fisher), after the death of his ex-wife - they are a father and son who don't even know each other. Locke (Terry O'Quinn, TV's The West Wing) is a mysterious man who keeps to himself, and who harbors a deeper connection to the island than any of the others. Claire (Emile de Ravin, TV's The Beastmaster) is pregnant. And self-centered Shannon (Maggie Grace, TV's Cold Case) - who actually gives herself a pedicure amid the chaos - and her estranged controlling brother, Boone (Ian Somerhalder, TV's Young Americans), constantly bicker and must learn to get along if they are to survive.
The band of friends, family, enemies and strangers must work together against the cruel weather and harsh terrain if they want to stay alive. But the island holds many secrets, including the intense howls of the mysterious creatures stalking the jungle, which fill them all with fear. Fortunately, thanks to the calm leadership of quick-thinking Jack and level-headed Kate, they have hope. But even heroes have secrets, as the survivors will come to learn. LOST is created by J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof, from Touchstone Television.

[getting to the light and dark thing] it sort of makes sense.
Walt, Michael, and Claire being the purest of heart on the left side..then how on the right side it filters, jack, kate, sawyer, jin, locke..you know looking at them you see that it all sort of filters to the ones with the most secrets.

How much ya wanna bet it is released the Tues before Season 2 starts?
It's release will be shortly before season 2, that builds up the audience into wanting to watch the premiere which makes ABC happy :)
I'm so excited about the dvd-box! The cover art is awesome and I wouldn't be surprised if the whole light/dark thing is correct. Everything they show in Lost has significance so it would make sense if the cover had some deeper meaning to it. I just hope the extra features will be good. Can't wait for the bloopers!
Kathy Fan 2, is that Bobby Jon you have as one of your pictures under your name (so sorry, can't remember what's it called)? I've been watching Survivor and I was sad to see get voted off, even though he wasn't voted off. :) Nice work ethics! (and so hot!) :) Anyways, take care. :)

Two thoughts:
This show is more like Band of Brothers the more I think of it, and that's a huge compliment to Lost.
OK, DVD related comment:
The cover art's proportions kind of reminds me of Middle Ages art. The important holy poepl (Saints, Mary, etc.) were closer to the cneter and were a lot bigger than everyone else. Of course it's more subtle here, but Shannon, Hurley, Claire and Sun are definitely smaller than everone else, and Jack is clearly the biggest character on the front. Thought you ought to know.
141 days.

Yeah the retail price is $59.99 but Walmart always has stuff cheaper, so I'm assuming it'll be around $45 there. Amazon.com always prices stuff higher than Walmart and if Amazon has a discount for $39.99 I'm thinking Walmart will probably have it around the same price.

Below is an excerpt from the interview between our own Suil Liath and Damon Lindelof. The interview is dated 3/28/04.
************************************************** ************************
LOST-TV: on the DVD that's coming out in September --- who will be on the commentary and which episodes will have commentary.
LOST-TV: and yes-- tell them to screw some things up. There is such a thing as too good!
DAMON: Both parts of the pilot will have commentary by J.J., myself and Bryan Burk.
LOST-TV: which other episodes will have commentary?
DAMON: Walkabout will have commentary by David Fury and Terry O'Quinn.
DAMON: Hearts & Minds has Carlton Cuse, Javier Grillo-Marxuach, Maggie Grace and Ian Somerhalder.
LOST-TV: ok, so the writers and the actor will comment on "their episode", is that it?
DAMON: And there are plans to add one more special commentary track, but I don't wanna give it away.
LOST-TV: oh, nail biter time,huh?
ThatHippieKid
04-20-05, 07:20 PM
So does that mean only Walkabout, Hearts and Minds and one other ep will have cast commentaries? =\

If they have Jorge and Dom riff on everyone as an extra commentary track, maybe an approach like Mystery Science Theater 3000 would be appropriate for them. That would be a great bonus on the DVD and a trip to boot!

It sounds like each actor will have commentary on their own episode with a surprise track somewhere in there....althought I think I figured it out.
Yes, it will be a commentary track for the monster and the whispers. the track will be 'comments' from the monster. Th track's a place where he can roar his approval or anger (after all, he has to do a llot of his takes for his scenes too!), whatever he thinks of the episode. And the whispers might comment, or maybe they'll say phrases from events in your past that still haunt you, or maybe it's a sumbliminal message telling you to watch Alias. Not sure, but it will be awesome.

Will the DVD be only region 1 DVD's, or are they gonna start selling European DVD's at the same time?
I just can t wait!!!

Xav - if you have a multi regional dvd player you can get a region 1 dvd and it will work.
Google your dvd's name and find out if it plays both, most newer dvds do.
I'm not sure if it'll be both regions. I think it might be region 1 only. But the Canadian discs are region 2 I think.
SpidermanHouston
07-18-05, 03:00 PM
Actually region 1 dvds work in the US and Canada. You can find a region code map here: www.laserrot.com/info/lrinfo/dvdmap.html (http://www.laserrot.com/info/lrinfo/dvdmap.html)
Show's how much I know. :lol
But if Europe is just starting to get the show on their TV's the DVD's probably won't be out for a while there huh?
SpidermanHouston
07-18-05, 03:14 PM
Yeah, I just went to the amazon.co.uk website: www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obi...48-1117457 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/468294/202-4160148-1117457) and they dont even have it listed. They have desperate housewives listed since they already showed that show there. So it probably wont be till next year for the UK.
Also if you have a multi-region dvd player in the UK it still may not work with your TV. Region 1 dvds are for NTSC tvs and the UK uses pal tvs. I ordered an import DVD from england once and it did not work properly on my TV because the dvd was mad for pal tvs.
feigenbaum
07-18-05, 05:44 PM
The tvs in my house are NTSC I thought most in the uk would be aswell oh well I know I can get the DVD.
It probably is best to check your DVD player and your tv before you order a region 1 DVD.
Master Xander
07-19-05, 01:44 AM
It's the reason I can't play UK/Aussie DVDs. We have NTSC TVs here in the Philippines. (We're Region 3, BTW, but most if not all DVD players here are now multiregional anyway.)

We have NTSC TVs here in the Philippines. (We're Region 3, BTW, but most if not all DVD players here are now multiregional anyway.)
Do they legally sell multi-region dvd players in the Phillippines? I thought the MPAA was against that? Or do they not have powers in the Phillippines? I also notice on EBay many people from the Phillippenes and Asia selling cheap tv show season dvd box sets. Are they really selling them that cheap over there or are they selling bootlegs?
Master Xander
07-19-05, 04:39 AM
I don't think the MPAA has jurisdiction outside the USA, but I could be wrong.
As for the cheap DVD sets... yes, they're bootlegs. South-East Asia is Bootleg Central.

Yeah, MPAA is an american thing. I guess what I actually meant is aren't the movie studios against multi-region dvd players? They created multi-region dvds for a reason. I dont understand how they are legally sold at stores in the Phillippenes.

Thanks KF2, I'll read the rules and regulations on the Welcome board and I'll help with the countdown if my help is needed. It's really no problem, I've been counting down in my head since I heard the DVD was coming. I can't wait either! I get so excited just thinking it :D . I've been lurking this board since February and I feel quite at home here so I decided to just join the fun and talk to people that actually look for clues and notice the hidden numbers throughout each episode.
Anyway thanks for your kind welcoming and take care.

:) Don't worry. By next month we'll most likely get the official season 2 date or maybe even in a week or two. September is getting very close and I doubt ABC would wait so long just to announce the season 2 date. Either way, I still can't wait!

From what we have seen during the first season, the numbers are hidden in just about every episode, but since Lost will be getting new writers this season, you can only hope that the hidden numbers remain.
BTW, my statement about the numbers was really a joke :)
feigenbaum
07-22-05, 10:47 PM

Might be a joke to you two, not me! I'm serious. :( I wonder if the new writers will remember to include the numbers...since you know...they're new, and might not be in the loop about these things.

I get worried too. But I have faith and I trust the new writers to include the numbers. They have to! Don't JJ and Damon have a bible for the show? I'm sure one of the rules in it state how the numbers must be present in every episode. If they don't, I'm sure JJ and Damon would remind them and if the writers still don't include the numbers, I'm sure they won't be around anymore. Besides, it's best not to get worried. This show has shown more potential than any other show I have seen especially for a first season! And I get so angry when people compare this show to Twin Peaks >: I never saw the show but what I read about it tells me that if I had seen it when it originally aired, I wouldn't have compared it to something such as Lost. That show may have had intrigue and mystery but it didn't have the scavenger hunts and the realistic characters that Lost has. All that's happening now is our faith is being tested - our commitment to Lost. But we will have more numbers to find. The new writers will show us how :)
Sorry for the rant. KF2 the joke that I mentioned, when I wrote it I was half kidding. I find it's best to make fun and laugh at a situation that at the same time scares you, it only eases the worrying :) and I apologize for that comment.
lol, it's ok. I was half-joking also.

lostfanclub (http://lostfanclub.com) they allow you to preorder the DVD, and if you order from that site it comes with an autographed 8 x 10 of one of the cast members (only if you order through them)
If you pre-order on Amazon right now it's $38.99 and I think free shipping because it's over $25.
If you wait until the day it comes out, you can go to a Wal-Mart (if there is one near you) and it's $38.88

Thanks, Crusoe for the link. I think I am looking forward to all those deleted scenes. That is what I will probably watch first.
* “The Lost Flashbacks” are two scenes cut from “Exodus.” One deals with Claire and the doomed pilot discussing psychics (3:07); the other deals with Sayid buying a necktie to impress Nadia (1:28) .
* “Deleted Scenes” include “Smoking” (1:10) with Charlie and Sawyer having a meeting of the minds, “Chicken or Lasagna” (0:43) with Hurley trying to engage a silent Locke, “Kate and Sayid” (1:09) with one realizing something about the other, “The Climb” (2:02) with Shannon’s hilarious reaction to Charlie’s attempt to impress her, “The Tell” (1:04) with Locke and Walt discussing liars, and “Partners” (0:55) with Boone and Shannon visually contrasting Sun and a handcuffed Jin.

“Pilot” commentary by creator-writer-director J.J. Abrams, creator-writer Damon Lindelhof and non-writing executive producer Bryan Burk. The commentary is unusual in that it lasts longer than the actual episode; through the miracle of “branching” DVD technology, Abrams is able to (if you’re watching in “commentary mode”), stop the episode and switch to behind-the-scenes footage, over which he continues to comment at length about certain aspects of the episode.

I just pulled this off of Aint-it-cool:
Credit given to HERC of the AICN staff for this report -
We are not permitted to review Lost: The Complete First Season, so I’m not going to tell you here how much I love this set (especially the Paley Fest excerpts and the deleted scenes, at least two of which are laugh-out-loud funny). But I can’t imagine the good folks at Buena Vista Home Entertainment – who sent along a nice note explaining that this is not necessarily the final version of the set - will mind if we just reveal a few details of its contents. Here’s some of what you apparently get when the DVD streets in about a month:
DISC 1
* “Pilot” commentary by creator-writer-director J.J.
* “Walkabout” commentary by actor Terry O’Quinn, writer David Fury and director Jack Bender.
* If you have a DVD-ROM drive, you can access the “Lost Scriptscanner,” which allows you read the entire pilot script while following along with the episode. You can click on any line of dialogue in the script and immediately interact with that scene.
* Widescreen versions of “Pilot,” “Tabula Rasa” and “Walkabout.”
* Commercials! An almost-3-minute-long trailer for the bigscreen Dec. 9 release “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,” plugs for the DVD releases of “Lost” 1.x, “Desperate Housewives” 1.x, “Alias” 4.x “Scrubs” 2.x “Home Improvement” 3.x, and Golden Girls” 3.x, and that promo we keep seeing for the second season of “Lost” on ABC.
DISC 2
* “The Moth” commentary by actor Dominic Monaghan, executive producer Damon Lindelhof and executive producer Bryan Burk.
* Widescreen versions of “White Rabbit,” “House of the Rising Sun,” “The Moth” and “Confidence Man.”
DISC 3
* Widescreen versions of “Solitary,” “Raised by Another,” “All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues” and “Whatever the Case May Be.”
DISC 4
* “Hearts and Minds” commentary by actors Maggie Grace and Ian Sommerhalder and writers Carlton Cuse and Javier Grillo-Marxuach.
* Widescreen versions of “Hearts and Minds,” “Special,” “Homecoming” and “Outlaws.”
DISC 5
* Widescreen versions of “… In Translation,” “Numbers,” “Deus Ex Machina” and “Do No Harm.”
DISC 6
* Widescreen versions of “The Greater Good,” “Born To Run” and “Exodus.”
DISC 7
The seventh disc is all extras, and is divided into three sections: “Departure,” “Tales From the Island” and “Lost Revealed.”
“Departure” includes:
* “The Genesis of Lost” (8:40): A documentary in which ABC exec Lloyd Braun reveals he wanted to make “Castaway: The Series.” J.J. Abramas reveals how he built on that idea.
* “Designing a Disaster” (7:59): A documentary detailing, among other things, how they got the middle part of a widebody jet from a plane graveyard in the Mojave Desert to a beach in Oahu, and how they got the front of the same widebody to a jungle on the same island. All in six weeks.
* “Before They Were Lost” (22:55): A documentary examining the unusual “Lost” casting process, which saw the show’s masterminds creating new regular characters tailored to actors they met and liked. Hurley, Sayid, Sun and Jin were among those unmentioned in the original outline ABC bought. We’re reminded that the original plan was to have Michael Keaton play Jack, and that Kate was originally supposed to emerge as the leader of the survivors.
* “Audition Tapes” (27:34): We see all 13 of the 14 of the regulars (Terry O’Quinn had already worked extensively with Abrams on “Alias”) run through some script pages. We get to see Yunjin Kim read for Kate. We get to see Matthew Fox, Dominic Monaghan and even Jorge Garcia play Sawyer.
* “Welcome To Oahu: The Making of the Pilot” (33:20): This is largely a how-they-did-it doc, dealing with those horrifying mid-flight scenes, and the monster in the trees, and the polar bear, and the guy-gets-sucked-into-a-jet engine gag, and other things. (Some interesting stuff about the series’ strange musical score too.)
* “The Art of Matthew Fox” (6:07): Fox discusses the many photos he took on the set as sad music plays.
* “Lost@Comicon” (1:50): A look at how high anticipation was for the series, even months prior to its premiere, thanks largely to buzz on the Internet.
“Tales From the Island” includes:
* “Lost: On Location” offers short behind-the-scenes documentaries about individual episodes, including “House of the Rising Sun” (7:19), “Confidence Man” (4:24), “All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues” (4:56), “Whatever The Case May Be” (2:58) , “Hearts and Minds” (6:20), “Special” (3:05) and the finale, “Exodus” (9:21), plus “The Trouble With Boars” (5:09), a look at the difficulties wrangling the animals during several episodes.
* “On Set With Jimmy Kimmel” (7:15) sees the host of ABC’s late-night talk show visit the cast in Hawaii.
* “Backstage With Drive Shaft” (6:40) teaches us, among other things, how a snippet of dialogue from the Phil Donahue show became the lyrics of Charlie’s biggest hit.
“Lost Revealed” includes:
* “Bloopers From The Set” (4:17) is lots of flubbed lines and falling down.
* “Live From The Museum of Television and Radio” (10:56) presents comic highlights from last March’s Paley Festival Q&A with Abrams and nine members of the cast.
I CAN'T WAIT!!!! RAAAAAHHHH!!

My sig says 28. Am I wrong [again]?
Sorry KF2, But I think so. I just double checked my calender, and it is 29 days away. But noone's perfect. :)
http://www.swedishpoet.com/awards/awardmpn.gif
But when I set the date I put September 6th, what the heck! I hate online countdowns.
If I put the date to September 7th it works. What a weird countdown.

KF2, your countdown was correct the first time. It is 29 days counting today but your countdown is more exact so it should be 28 days and 6 hours. That will countdown to midnight, September 6. So you need to change it back. So at midnight tonight, your countdown should be at exactly 28 days, 0 hours, 0 minutes if you change it back.

Yeah, but hopefully we won't get another season set coming out in 6 months with even more extras for more money than the original box set.
