How do I find the password to my secure router?
My iPhone would like to connect when I'm home but it asks for a password, I don't know what it is or where to find it. It's a Linksys router.
Damn, this stuff drives me nuts!

Isn't the default user name and password 'admin'? I think.

Look up the model number on the Linksys website, sals. That'll give you the password and how to "reset" the router to the default password.
The password should also be printed on the bottom of the router on the same tag as the S/N.

Is the default router password the same default password (if there is a default) needed to connect to the network? IE is the router password the same as the WEP/whatever key needed to connect?
I think Houkou is closer to the solution here. I think the phone is asking for the network password, not the router poassword.
Sals - was this router set up by an ISP?

you need to type that address in your browser on the computer to get to the wireless settings.
Linksys often uses 192.168.1.1, and the default user and password will both be "admin".
However, I'm almost certain that the phone is looking for the network key or password in order to to join the network.

Yep, linksys uses this one.
Linksys routers will give you the key when you set up the router; did you write any of the info down? (Like ssid, encryption type, etc.) It will be the really long mixture of letters and numbers.
That will depend upon the setup options, actually.

Yeah, but I'm just going on how I did mine, and what (little) I remember. ;)

My router didn't have a "default" password for WEP/WPA/etc. You must specify one when you enable some sort of wireless access protection. My router defaulted to no security when I installed it, and I had to specify a pass key.
If someone else set up the network/router, they likely put a password in there and then put the password in on your computer in order to access the wireless network.
If you have no way of finding out what the password is, you can go in and change the wireless password in your rotuer's web config page (accessed by putting in the router's IP address in your web browser, then accessing the password/key setting, usually under "wireless settings" and/or "security settings"), but then you'll have to also change it on your computer(s) and any other devices that are accessing the router wirelessly so it can access the network. Any devices that are a direct connection (wired ethernet) to the router probably don't have any password/security in order to access the network.
Sometimes the pass key is actually visible in your router's config pages once you log into it, also.
To access router config, you typically have to use a wired connection. Admin functions are usually disabled over wireless connections for security purposes.
I found this:
http://www.askmehelpdesk.com/wireless-technology/linksys-router-not-working-iphone-169283.html
I changed the DNS address as shown and then found the scrap of paper where I wrote down my 8 digit pass key, entered it and connected. I think now that my router is "known", I will automatically link to it whenever I'm in range.
I did a Google search for "iPhone can't connect to Linksys router" and apparently there is an issue with that...some couldn't even connect to open systems and changing the DNS address was the only way.
Thank you all for your help!!!!!!!!!!
