Which sport do you consider to be America's national sport?

I read somewhere that baseball is the national sport, but I'm not sure how true that is.

Traditionally, yes. I don't think it is anymore if we using popularity as the gauge. If so, the national sport is football.

It's football. Baseball is the game we all played and on some level think we can all play b/c of its simplicity. But American's love football.
I can barely watch a quarter of a game, though. To much stop and go, penalities and commercials.
I enjoy the pace of basketball is and soccer and would watch more EPL games if available.
Of course, for a while it seemed like NASCAR was going to contend.

I would choose Football.

It's the only American sport that I really follow, but that's partly because we get very little coverage of baseball, basketball, NHL etc. over here.

I wouldn't even consider NASCAR a sport.

A bunch of rednecks driving around in a circle for 200 laps? No thanks.

Baseball has traditionally been considered "America's game", but in reality.. football has
surpassed it.

Popularity?

1: Football
2: NASCAR
3: I don't even know... do more people watch baseball or basketball these days? Or is it golf? It sure as hell isn't hockey.

Ah, Snake... you should do your research and know what you are talking about before making such statements.

"A bunch of rednecks driving around in a circle" has not been true for a long time now. The guy who was the champ the past 2 years and just about has this year's locked up... a California guy who is just about as far from redneck as you can get. Jimmie Johnson.

You must not consider F1 a "sport" either then...

I have many complaints about NASCAR and I am a huge fan. But saying it's just rednecks driving in a circle is pure ignorance. I expect better out of an intelligent man like you, my friend.

ETA: My vote goes to football though. That's an obvious choice. :D

Meh.

Maybe it's because I've seen Talledega Nights too many times.

I'm actually quite fond of F1, although it's not as much of a spectatle as it used to be.

Hockey suffers unfairly (television) because:

1. It's just not a great TV sport.
2. Canada - Oh sure hockey is a great sport, but Canada has given the world so few things of value that people just lump hockey in with all the rest of the crap. All the rest of the bad apples spoil the one good one.

Is Texas Holdem' a sport? ESPN must think so.

I think most of the world is totally OVER poker on TV.

Hopefully ESPN will realize that one day.

I saw it once. And once was enough. Freakin' retardo movie if I've ever seen one. I think Will Ferrell has just enough talent that he should be homeless.

I am no fan of hockey. Watching it on tv sucks.

But... I saw a Flames/Coyotes game in Phoenix once. (I won free tickets)

Now THAT was entertaining! Seeing it live is definitely the way to go.

Shake n bake!

Their whole "shake n bake" move is retarded in and of itself. Impossible too. Whatever idiot made that film had them downshifting at full speed out on the track. In reality, the cars stay in 4th gear at those speeds. 1-3 is only for speeding up and slowing down. The second they went "shake n bake" and downshifted to 3rd their motors would grenade. :rolleyez:

I dunno, it looked pretty realistic to me.

How is Ricky Bobby doing these days? Did he ever win Daytona?

Brian

That movie was less realistic than Days Of Thunder, and I didn't think that was possible.

You guys actually saw Talladega Nights?!?! In the theaters?!?!

And at least Days of Thunder was realistic when ol' Robert Duvall was talking about the difference between open cars and stock cars.

In reality.. at Talledega, once you are up to speed... everyone stays in the highest gear with the pedal to the floor all the way around the track.

I am however amazed that anyone would care that a movie of this nature was completely unrealistic.

All I know about Richard Petty is that he is The King.

How do I know?

Because Kurt Hennig told me.

He almost mentioned something about his distaste for Rap music.

I just find it comical that anyone would or could expect a Will Ferrell movie to be anything close to realistic. When you watch one of his films, you should pretty much go into it knowing it's total camp with little basis in any sort of reality.

What do you mean? Blades of Glory was a more realistic than any other ice skater film, even The Cutting Edge (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104040/). Hey, Locke's in that movie!

Warthawg1

Oh crap.. I totally forgot about Blades of Glory.

Retract everything I said.

I don't care one way or another how realistic it was. "Starring Will Ferrell" pins my care-o-meter at 0. They could have added gadgets from the Mach 5 and it wouldn't have decreased my desire to see the movie.

Warthawg1

I would just love to see Adam and Jamie try that in their next "movie myths" show. :D

He was probably the best part of that movie.
