View Full Version : How (not) To
This guy is a total pinhead.
I can't even list all the wrong things he does, they are legion. But this is typical of most How-To videos. They oversimplify, mislead and just flat out give very bad advice.
His vids are like car wrecks...awful to see but you feel compelled to look anyway. (Yeah, I realize he's cute:rolleyez:)

Why didn't he just PAINT the room that color???? And I don't find him cute at all.

Thank goodness I have neither the talent nor the inclination to tackle something like that myself - as I would be tempted to watch such a video and follow along.
Sals' paint crew is cuter than the vid guy. ;)

Wow..yeah..it looks like paint. Why use wallpaper if its not going to have a pattern?
Great idea for a thread. Is it going to morph into a "how not to do" whatevers so people can learn from others mistakes? Little tips that can help others from common household, car, repair, etc blunders.
I know a guy who became upset when the charcoal grill wasn't getting hot fast enough. A few words will give the picture, impatience, a can of lighter fluid, and then scorched eyebrows. Thankfully they grew back.

So, what did he do wrong? Enlighten us, Master. :)

Yes, I agree. First of all, what's up with booking half at a time? And when he used the "squeegee" .......I cringed at the 8 inch wrinkle he left in the paper. But, you have to admit, his cutting technique was quite brilliant. .......if he's laying paper for a blind man. He stopped the cut every 4 inches?!
FTR, not cute.
Wasamader, sals? You couldn't find a good clip of Dean Johnson? ;)
Me neither.

I thought you would like him calling the smoother a squeegee:rotfl:
I wanna see him lay in that 2 inch strip he has to fit into the corner next to the finished wall.
And, AND, did you see him sweep over the edges where you know, you KNOW he got paste on the smoother and then...and THEN, he never wiped it off before sweeping again? All after he just got finished saying how paste on the surface of a textile is the kiss of death.
And yes, I laughed out loud at his trimming style...esp when he got all self congratulatory about it.
And finally......You surely know, for me, the best Dean Johnson vids aren't the ones featuring Dean Johnson.:D

The dimwit also said that you ALWAYS work in a counter clockwise direction around the room, as he swept his arm in a CLOCKWISE direction!:rolleyez:
Free of adhesive.
Sorry, just repeating after the guy w/ the pretty hair.
I thought dark colors in small rooms is a no-no? No?
I was watching a video of how to install an electrical sub panel once, and the guy had ran this wire about 2 ft down the stud, a tight bend, and back up to the receptacle box. That kind of radius is a huge no no, and these guys were "professionals".
Hmmm.... perhaps one of the reasons for house fires along with other things usually involving uninspected work by pro contractors?

You know the best way to accomplish that, Silver?
Paste the wall, not the paper. He's hanging a textile, you can't wipe off any paste from the front of the material, so If you paste the wall and wet the back of the material with water, book it, then hang...the face will remain Free-Of-Adhesive. :rotfl:
And Frecks...I DID notice that!!! And I would have let it go except for his then hanging a strip in a place near, but not touching, the last strip he hung.
I think he has a How To Paint one also, I'll watch it tomorrow morning when I'll be suitably grumpy anyway.
Silver....the dark color is ok in a small space, esp a dining room where you're going for a relaxing, warm mood...just not with a white ceiling and trim. Need some color there.
I just watched it again :rotfl:. I noticed some paste stains at the end when they show the completed room and one bubble.
Nice job, Eric!! You're fired.
Jerry?? Here's a raise for not being Eric.
Summer? Here's a raise for, well, for just being Summer:)
(Stop laughin', Dezie)

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who saw that. I was afraid I was seeing things but I couldn't bring myself to watch it again.
LOL. That was really hard to watch. Ok, I get it. Don't get adhesive on the table. :rolleyez:

He's an ass. You couldn't even see any contrast in that pathetic video.:rolleyez:
Yeah, he seemed way too impressed with himself about not using tape. And I bet sals loved to hear that it only takes two weeks to become an expert painter! :) The guy's a train wreck and I can't rip my eyes away from what he'll do next.

He probably included weekends and stuff.
Did you see how much paint he put in the tray? And the giant glob of paint at the corner of the taped area when he started to cut in?
He's no better at carpentry or landscaping or plumbing.....how does a guy get that job? Is it the hair?
Must be the hair.

ETA: Hi Silver !! I saw the chainsaw one yesterday :rotfl: I MUST HAVE that book !!!
