If I'm not mistaken, Locke's scar is nothing more than an injury from the plane crash. Correct?

Correct, there's no scar during his flashbacks.

Like a man that's been on a walkabout and can handle himself everywhere. Definitely cool.

Locke, to Kate and Saeed (I've finally decided to stick to this one spelling :D ), when discussing the water bottles theft and Jack's absence:
"You stay here... Besides, I know where to look."
Ah, his face here!!! Priceless, really - the knowing smile, the utter joy of being able to help something pivotal to the survival of the group...

I think it could be significant that his scar resembles the face paint of a harlequin. A harlequin often represents the same thing as the Fool in Tarot--someone who goes off on an adventure perhaps innocently, but with great courage and often great rewards. Also, a harlequin traditionally "plays the fool," but in reality illustrates the foolishness of those around him.

innocuous, that's a really interesting point. You're right about the scar making Locke look like a harlequin. I hadn't realized it before this.
So long as he doesn't turn into a mime...

I have seen this scar before on others in a similar fashion.
Not other cast members but there is something called a "Hiedelburg Scar" that used to be a badge of distinction in last century Germany. Bit of a stretch but notice the German panzer commander in "Kelly's Hero's" with Clint Eastwood.
(ALSO)
Hence the line from a rather infamous literary work...
"Like a Teutonic swordsman's token Heidelberg scar, he wore these proudly."

I thought the scar was from his operation when he gave his father one of his organs?

In reading that lil excerpt from the Brave New World Journal. There were two Nazi Captains who had the strength and physical resistance of a thousand men. If that's what you're eluding to, can you explain further the corollation to Locke?
Not likley since he had a kidney removed, the kidney is located in the posterior part of the abdomen not your head ;)

He did not have the scar after the kidney sugery, but had it when boarding the plane. It doesn't look fresh, which would indicate that he has had it for a while. I would guess that he picked the scar up at the same time as he lost use of his legs, which may have been whilst honing his survival skills.

He definitely got the facial scar in the plane crash. He does not have it when he boards the plane. Here he is sitting in the plane, no scar:

Re- the "harlequin" appearance of the scar -
Isn't there a "Harlequin" (girl character)in the Green Lantern comics?
I seem to recall her having daddy issues.

Harley Quinn from Batman?

Had to Look it up. (http://my.execpc.com/~icicle/HARLEQUIN.html)
There's an extensive Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harlequin_(comics)) entry too.
Seems a heck of a lot more like Kate than Locke, though there is an issue of psychotic mother and an indifferent father.

I really thought you meant Harley Quinn (http://www.batmantas.com/cmp/harley.htm), the Joker's sidekick for a while.
