NOW.
After last night, I totally agree 100%

I will second that notion!
He has been around for a long time in the actoring world...and has always been superb. But this role...is giving so many people at long last the chance to see just how good he has always been.

I will be surprised if he doesn't at least get a nomination. But, he'd definitely get my vote from what I saw Wednesday night.

I've been thinking the same thing - but had the thought with all the pretty people they like to nominate they may bump him to best supporting actor if they recognize him at all. Can you imagine Locke as a supporting character. O'Quinn is definitely in the best actor category ability wise and would be my choice.

YES!!!!
It would take to long to explain why you are right....
He was brilliant the look of terror in his eyes and little things like loosing his temper hitting the ceiling in his car. He made me uncomfortable watching the geeky Locke, all that and he didn't over do it!
Brilliant

Every time I read "O'Quinn needs an Emmy," I think I read "Locke needs and enemy." My tricky, tricky mind...;)

I vaguely remember O'Quinn from a couple of things before JAG. I thought he sucked on JAG.
O'Quinn is excellent on Lost. It's like he finally found a role that allowed him to showcase his talent. Good for him.
He was on JAG! Aaaaaaaaaahaaaahaaaaaaa!!!!!!!
Sorry:o Just can't picture it.:p

Was about to post the exact same message but found this instead.
O'Quinn's acting ability is by far the best I've seen so far in the series.
Locke's emotional outburst in the 'Walkabout' office as the guide was leaving toward the bus was nothing less than perfect.
"Don't tell me what I can't do! I was meant to do this, dammit!" :| such a powerful message.

lol, sorry
Totally agree, he's amazing!

He totally deserves one!!!
kristen729,
He MORE than deserves one! After all, he did agree to do "The Cutting Edge." He should have been awarded just by agreeing to do that movie. That's not to take away from what he's done on LOST. He is by far, IMHO, the key to the LOST storyline. He's done more for everyone on the island than anyone else. Just my .02.
O'Quinn's great. As for winning an award, he'll probably be the Susan Lucci of the Sci/Fi, supernatural, plane crash survivor television genre.
Did anyone catch that little smirk of his when Walt asked if his leg hurt and he answered 'Yup' ? Made me think of the fact that his legs went numb just a few episodes ago. It's the little things like that...
He'll be on the show until the end.
He definitely should receive some type of nomination. The sad thing is he probably won't. They hardly ever recognize sci-fi shows, which I think is what LOST is...it's a drama, but they hear of "others" and "hatches" and "monsters" and all that jazz and they get turned off. Not to mention he only got 2 chances to really showcase himself. The show has such a big cast and with the flashbacks focusing on mainly that one character it's hard to really come to the front and show yourself.

Each time Terry OQuinn is on screen, Locke-centric episode or not, he shines. There's so much meaning conveyed in the quirking of his mouth or the narrowing of his eyes...
Here's hoping that he does get the recognition he deserves!

KF2 is right, but look at how well Lord of the Rings (eventually) did award-wise. We may be at a crossroads here, where change is on the horizon. Ian McKellan even got a supporting actor nomination for FotR! Hell, I'm an optimist.
Can you imagine Locke as a supporting character.
Yes, I can. With big ensemble pieces where there is no lead chracter, everyone is considered a supporting actor. I think these are the best, because all of the actors should be there to support the script in the first place.
O'Quinn is definitely in the best actor category ability wise and would be my choice.
The actors in the supporting category are just as talented as those in the leading category. If not more talented actually, since it's tough to play second fiddle to anyone and you typically get ignored if you do so.
Not to threadjack, but Matthew Fox has been amazing too.

KF2 Fox has been really good. Those smirks and the way his voice breaks etc... All those things that eat under your skin are signs of a good actor but Terry O'Quinn has been "WOW"
The way he verbally fenced with Jack the last episode, it was perfect not over done... Little things like looking down at the ground and stirring the sand and then making the point about not reporting to Jack or discretion. Knocked my socks off.
Knocked my socks off so far my wife blamed me for leaving clothes in the living room , again! Damn that Locke!
Yes I agree Locke has been amazing. But his flashbacks have really let him be amazing. Big powerful shocking flashbacks definitely help an actor. Matthew Fox's scenes have been more subtle but the range of emotion and facial expressions is definitely there.
I'd like to see them both nominated for an Emmy but I really don't think it'll ever happen with a show like LOST. [/pessimism]

Well, snap out of it already!
I for one am hoping to see Terry OQuinn, Matthew Fox, Josh Holloway and Naveen Andrews nominated this year. Maybe even Dominic Monaghan.
azteclady,
"Maybe" Dominic Monaghan? Really? His character is the hero of Hollywood! How? He's confused, he's not sure where his loyalties lie, and he loves kids! That has Emmy written all over it.
Seriously though, I'd love to see LOST blow away the Emmy's this year regardless of category. They more than deserve it from TPTB to the actors. This show is an anomoly in modern television. With all due respect, it should have never become what it has if you realize the backstory of LOST. Amazing on any level.
That said, maybe that's why it is so successful. TPTB didn't have time to second guess themselves and plan it ad nauseum. They just went with it and worked out the details as they go. This is a once in a million type of thing though. If it were anyone else behind the scenes, we'd all know it was developed in 4 days.
Maybe even Dominic Monaghan.
My turn to slap you. :b

Listen, you twit, I'm a delicate flower of feminity who'll kill anyone who says otherwise - so watch it, buster!
Besides, didn't you catch the meaning behind the 'maybe'? I mean, how many people are nominated for each category? Five? gee... and I just mentioned that I want at least 4 of the LOST island castaways nominated! :p
So, snap out of the pesimistic mood and let me be!
OK, so now it's come down the definition of "maybe." :) Are we really going to start a catfight here? :) Sorry, my font isn't acting correctly evidently, but who is the "delicate flower of feminity"?
Seriously though, it's odd that we're fighting over Charlie on Locke's thread! I love both of you........you know that, right? :)

I think O'Quinn has the best shot at being nominated for an Emmy. I agree that Matthew Fox is amazing, but he is considered the star of the show. I agree with previous posters who said Lost is too much of an ensemble show to garner Best Lead Actor or Actress nominations.
MagiclBlingBling, Yes LOTR, and specifically ROTK, won the industry awards. But, it wasn't recognized for acting. It won all of those technical awards, which I'm sure Lost (the Pilot) will be up for. It'll probably also be up for Outstanding Drama Series.
I love watching award shows, and I'm racking my brain thinking of recent nominees for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. The perennial nominees include a duo or trio from *yawn* The West Wing, Victor Garber and Michael Imperioli. Maybe O'Quinn could take Michael Imperioli's "spot" since I think The Sopranos won't be eligible at all this year.
O'Quinn deserves to be nominated regardless of past nominees, but it's the Emmys. I love The Sopranos, but Imperioli being ineligible will help O'Quinn.
It won all of those technical awards,
Hey hey hey it won best picture & directing those are big awards!
And Ian McKellen was nominated for supporting actor for FOTR.
As much as I'd like to see Terry O win an Emmy, I'm torn on which category. I've always felt that there are no "leading" actors/actresses on LOST and at the same time, labeling them as "supporting" just doesn't seem right either. All that said, I think the only two men who could be considered as "leading" in LOST would be Terry O and Matthew Fox. My loyalties are a bit torn here though. Matthew Fox was great on Party of Five and he's part of the reason I watched that show. However, Terry O's character of Locke is the reason the watch LOST, OK, one of many. I guess, for me, it comes down to the differences I have between the men themselves and the characters they play. Surely each of these has to be taken into account when selecting a winner. If it's based solely on the character, Locke wins hands down, Jack's too much of a woman, he's too reactionary. (Ladies, please don't take that the wrong way, it's just a character fl........hmm, there's really no good way out of this is there? I didn't think so. It stays nonetheless.) Locke, while not being overt about it, is a leader and it's becoming more obvious every episode, especially when he jumped on Jack (e.g. "I'm sorry, but when did I start reporting to you?) Jack just assumes he's the leader while Locke is earning the respect required to be a leader.
I just downloaded a clip of Terry, as I never see him out on the talk show circuit before (to his credit?), and never got a chance to assess the man himself. I'd say he deserves some medal of valor just for surviving five minutes in that crass and lame den of inanity called 'The View'.

Hey hey hey it won best picture & directing those are big awards!
True, Kathy Fan 2, and rightfully so...
But, not until the the last film. I guess I was trying to emphasize the voters' ability to overlook strong individual acting performances in an impressive technical program in my LOTR/Lost analogy.
I definitely think Lost will be up for the big awards--Outstanding Drama, Writing, Directing-- come Emmy time. The Outstanding Drama Series will serve as an award for the whole cast because I'm not so sure O'Quinn, Fox, Andrews or Lilly will be recognized, even though they deserve it.

I started watching "Lost" because I've known Terry for many years and could tell after a couple of episodes that this would be his best role and now I feel that he deserves at least a nomination for an Emmy. His work as Locke is excellent, the best of his career. I hope all of the cast cleans up the Emmy's this year they deserve it!
newberrychas,
I'll agree with you on that! This is the best thing I've seen Terry in over the years. I'll also add that this is the best thing that I've seen Matthew Fox in in a long time. I first discovered him (MF) in Party of Five and haven't seen much of him since. Then again, I don't watch a lot of TV (other than LOST) so maybe that's a biased statement.
The only other role that I remember Terry O from is "The Cutting Edge." (Yeah, I know, the X-Files. I got bored with that and stopped watching before I ever remember seeing him there.) I got roped into watching T.C.E. by my sister and found that I actually liked it. Terry O played the overbearing father wonderfully in that movie, IMO.

He did an amazing job on Millenium as well (another show from the creator of The X-Files).
He's an amazing actor, that fills the supporting character roles brilliantly. IMO, he's certainly the very heart of LOST.
Needs Emmy NOW!
Once again, the look at "the monster/security system" says it all!
EG|VM,
I agree. I think the facial expression battle between Jack and Locke was priceless in this episode. They really say more than the words. Just my .02.

imagine if they asked Terry those kinds questions!!:eek he was lucky Lori was there...so those biotches didn't pull anything stupid.:p

As for the ad... I found the 'all drama categories' and Naveen's ad (which was a plesant surprise. Didn't know that.). But still not the TOQ-one =(

don't worry, it's out there somewhere I'm sure. but if not...then TOQ don't need it to get nominated. he's already won it imo......;)

One week from Thursday and the Emmy nominations are announced. God help me--Terry O'Quinn better be nominated.
Well, all aspects of Lost better be well-represented: drama series, writing, directing, Fox, Lily, Holloway. Umm...what else? Are there Emmy categories for visual effects? musical arrangements/score?

Well he got the nomination today! Its great for Terry, he has been here in town for the last week or so visiting the old hometown. Its great to see that all the hard work and years of paying dues has paid off for him.

It'll be a travesty if he doesn't win, IMO. He's been around for a while and definitely paid his dues, so to speak. Here's to hoping LOST brings him what he deserves! Good luck TOQ!

Thrilled that Lost was awarded as a whole...but seriously, Shatner???

O'Quinn was robbed. I think Shatner won it because of his decades long resume, not his current role.
Terry got his Emmy. The show he is on won! See? He's even holding it in my sig. ;)

I was disappointed for TO as well, but I happen to love William Shatner's Boston Legal character, Denny Crane .
There's always next year!
KF2,
Yeah, but it's not the same don't ya think? I mean, yeah LOST won best Drama (which blew me away when I heard it.....the only part of the Emmys I tuned in for) but it would have been nice for TOQ, or Naveen, to win their category. I agree with you, though, that it's quite possible that neither won because they split the vote! Who knows really?
I think that's why they lost in the writing category too, they had 2 nominations. Voters couldn't decide which episode to vote on!
Voters couldn't decide which episode to vote on!
Can you blame 'em? In either instance? :) Hey, look at the bright side, LOST had a .500 average (6 of 12). That's a good thing, I think, for a new show that many people still haven't heard of and was developed virtually overnight. I'm sure you've seen the Disc 7 by now. How hectic was this thrown together? Yes, I come across them everyday (people who haven't heard of/don't watch) and I'm trying to convert as many as possible. Granted it has a huge following and I think TPTB have cemented their core audience at this point. Hopefully they can learn lessons from S1 and apply them to S2! I honestly believe that S2 is going to be better than S1 and thereby get a nod or two for best lead actor/actress. Then again, TPTB'd have to define "lead" and I don't think they can at this point.

I think he was snubbed. A cryin shame IMHO. Naveen was wonderful, better than James Spader by far, but Terry O'Quinn definitely should have gotten the Emmy. Darn shame. Well there is plenty of time for him to win another one.
