Feels like a sprint to the end now doesn't it.

omg only 4 more eps ! I always hate when the rewatch ends, but then I'm a creature of habit ! This is the only one I haven't watched again at all, I just couldn't face the appendix and the sheer stupidity of it all - they should have let him remove the damn thing himself.

Kate and Jules (not so much) were made to look like idiots ! Sorry, I'm just biased - just a bit :D bbl :)

Just off the top of my head, again ! There was a lot of talk about the island not wanting Jack to leave. No, the island didn't want anyone to leave, and Jack was the one who kept trying to overcome impossible odds in order to achieve his own somewhat flakey promise. How many times was he told that the freighter hadn't been sent to rescue them ? That they were not the priority. So Jack's intentions may be all for the good, but as with all his plans nothing has been thought through properly. Thus disaster. bbl

I'm so busy this time of the year. I only have two weeks of work left for the year, so it's super crazy. I haven't had time to watch the episode yet and I haven't seen it since the night it aired, so I'm struggling to remember the details. Lol. :)

Zia, I can't believe how close it is to Christmas ! Scary

Just to gladden your heart, Nick Cave got some more awards - "Dig - Lazarus - Dig" got top album for the respected UK music magazine "Mojo" ! The Bad Seeds have taken out the two top honors at the EG Awards (Australian) for best band and best album!

Nick was in the UK and couldn't be at the awards, so he sent his son, Jethro, along - "He'll be up for that - absolutely. He does't come cheap, Jethro. I'm his agent - he won't work for nothing, but if there's free booze then he'll do it !"

Its been a great year for him !

Ah i forgot about Rose explaining why Jack was actually ill, good call.

I watched this last night and it was pants. Worst episode this season, i actually skipped through the home sweet home parts! And the Operation. Unheard of!

The bit with Hurley and Christian were genius though.

Poor Hurley :-(

Oh and Claire's scenes were pretty cool too, maybe not so bad an ep then, just revolved around 2 characters i'd rather see killed of asap.

I don't mean that.

Or do I?

No I dont.

Or do I?

I've decided to take back some of my words, here ! Practically unheard of ! I've been so busy castigating Jack for his ridiculous behaviour over his appendix, but it must have been a scary situation. Being the only doctor around and needing an emergency operation - not a pleasant situation to be in. BUT, Jack was his own worst enemy. He has always insisted that everybody trust him, but he doesn't trust anybody himself. Juliet gets the responsibility of performing the surgery, she is a "doctor" after all, and should have plenty of knowledge. But what a horrendous situation to be in (although actually I think that having to shave his torso would have been worse !) Kate goes to jelly and weeps a lot, and then Juliet, having done the deed, goes to Kate and between them they decide that Jack loves Kate. Maybe Juliet is a bit over him, maybe she has seen a bit too much of him. Anyway she should be commended for not doing something much worse with that scalpel ! She could have just said it slipped. Bernard and his chloroform saved the day ! I just wish Sawyer had been there. I can just imagine him telling Jack to "cowboy up" and don't be such a baby !

Anyway, bbl for the more interesting bits.

I can't believe how close Christmas is either. I'm going to do Winter this year, so I'm excited. I just realized today that I have three weeks off of my psychotic job.

Nick Cave!! I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am that he's getting recognized as the genius that he really is. Good for him...finally.

I thought you might be happy Zia !

And its great to see him being recognized along with some of the Aboriginal bands who are so brilliant, and Paul Kelly, who was on the sound track of the movie "Jindabyne" and is a true genius, but no-one outside of Australia has ever heard of him ! Ah well, good onya Nick. Nite nite, Zia ....

It was interesting that when Jack visited Hurley, Hurley told him they were all dead. Maybe he is right. He has been talking to Charlie and Charlie is dead. Charlie gives Hurley a message for Jack - "You're not supposed to raise him Jack". Jack says that that doesn't make sense, but he can't meet Hurley's eyes. Hurley tells him that Charlie said that someone would be visiting Jack too, soon. Was this the start of Jack's booze and drugs ? Guilt is a powerful cause of insomnia. So now Hurley has told Jack he's not supposed to raise Aaron, and that they were not supposed to leave the island. When is Jack going to start taking notice of other people ? We discover that Sun and Jin have already realized that the freighter did not come for them.

Apparently Juliet has operated on appendices when she was a resident, but he still doesn't trust her, which is why he demands to be awake for the operation. Not only that but he wants to use a mirror so he can see what's going on, and Kate can hold it. Juliet suggests maybe Bernard could hold it because, being a dentist, he is more used to that sort of thing than Kate, but Jack insists that Kate hold the mirror. Why ? Is this going to be a test of her "love" ?

Rose has always been a fan of Jack, but now she is querying why the island is allowing him to become sick. Because it doesn't want them to leave, and Jack is one stubborn, determined SOB !

I'm saving Sawyer, Claire. Miles and Frank etc. 'til next time ! More interesting !

Sawyer, Claire. Miles - their scenes are so open to interpretation in this episode eh, the most popular one on this board is that they are all pointing to Claire being 'Zombie Claire'.

The evidence seems to add up, especially all of Miles's little comment and looks.

Doesn't feel right to me though, she has to raise Arron after all.

Good to see Frank siding with the Losties ! I was quite surprised that Keamy let it go and didn't push the issue. He definitely heard Aaron.

Sawyer has met his match with Miles ! Restraining order ! Well that kind of backfired didn't it ! Maybe if Sawyer had kept his mouth shut Miles would have warned him about Claire being taken away by Christian. Sawyer has got very possessive over Claire and Aaron, but then he was instrumental in saving their lives.

Is Claire dead or alive ? Well, yes she is ! I think it depends on where she is whether she is dead or alive. If she stays on the island she is alive, if she leaves she will die. Don't ask me where I plucked that idea from ! We know Christian is dead, (?) but he is still wandering around the island. He takes Claire off to Jacob's cabin, having left Aaron for Sawyer to find, and Claire appears to be quite content. Should Aaron have stayed on the island with Claire ? After all, she was the one who Malkin was so certain had to raise Aaron, by herself.

Yes, Miles, "I can see dead people". I'd be very careful how I treat him if I were Sawyer !

Rose calls Charlotte "red." :lmao: Good one Rose. Saywer puts a restraining order on Miles so he stays away from Claire. Jack has appendicitis surgery and Rose asks a very valid question about why Jack got sick on the island. Here they get better.

Oh Jack sees dad in the hospital atrium after removing the beeping smoke detector battery. Uh huh. :whistling

Poor Hurley, Jack never believes or really listens to him.

Charlotte speaks Korean. Jin calls her bluff and threatens Daniel if she continues to lie about not knowing Korean.

Jack is a boozing pill popper. What else is new? Sawyer wakes up to find Claire gone and asks Miles where she went. Miles says she left in the middle of the night. Saywer asks why he didn't go after her. Retraining order. lol

Sawyer finds Aaron and no Claire. btw Miles did say she left with her "dad."

I cannot wait for the next episode. I watched it already but want to watch it again. :swoon:

This episode takes a step back from the intensity of our last episode and focuses on how Jack became that denim-wearing pill popper we saw in Through the Looking Glass.

Jack takes a looooong time to wake up at the beginning of the episode. Is this because he’s feeling very sick or is this supposed to be a clue to something else? Well, most likely he was just feeling crappy, but what if his consciousness went somewhere else while he was asleep? Nah…I’ve been watching this show too long. :toke:

I loved how Rose called Charlotte “red” and gave her a bit of the ol’ ‘tude. Quite frankly, I’m surprised the Losties lasted as long as they did without demanding answers from Daniel and Charlotte. If I were either of them, I would have seriously feared for my life given how badly the Losties wanted to leave the Island.

Does anyone else dislike how TPTB altered certain characters’ voices in the flashforwards so we wouldn’t immediately know it was them? A good example of this was Kate in the shower and Ben speaking to Sayid at the end of The Economist. Though hearing them speak would give away the surprise right off the bat, disguising the character’s voice seems like a cheap tactic all the same.

Jack reading to Aaron: “Dear, dear, how queer everything is today and yesterday things went on just as usual. I wonder if I’ve been changed in the night. Let me think…was I the same when I got up this morning? Or if I’m not the same, the next question is: who in the world am I? Ah, that’s the real puzzle.”

The small bit of dialogue above catches my attention every single time. The concept of an individual changing is a very integral part of the show. Jacob (from what little we’ve seen of him) seems to promote change in our characters. Change seems to be a good thing. Just after Kate’s acquittal, Jack seemed very noncommittal about seeing Aaron and at some point he must have changed his mind. Now we see him reading a bedtime story to Aaron and living with Kate. We’ve also seen Sawyer and Jin change from the least likeable characters in Season One to two of the most likeable in the show.

Yet change can also be sinister, as well, if you consider the French science team who followed Montand into the Smokey hole at the base of the Temple—they emerged from that place changed. Richard took Ben to The Temple and changed him, too. What will happen when our Losties visit The Temple? Will we see them change in the final season, and if so, is that why Season Six is the final season? :scratchch

Claire mentioned that she was “seeing things” right after the explosion, so we’re meant to assume she saw Charlie. Whatever happened to her in that explosion—whether true death or a near death experience—seems to have opened her up to seeing dead people. Shortly after seeing Charlie (which we didn’t get to see), she also sees her dead father. The timing of this simply cannot be a coincidence.

That was such a freaky scene when Miles heard the residual shots of the guns that killed Danielle and Karl. When he uncovered the extremely shallow graves, I knew all hope was gone that Rousseau would arrive at the last minute and save the day. That was probably the most disappointing death on this show for me. Very cool scene, though, thanks to Miles.

Juliet’s acceptance among the Losties proves how trust can grow very quickly in extreme situations. Only mere weeks ago, they hated her, and now she’s taking charge while Jack’s sick. Only mere weeks ago, she was the outsider, and now Daniel and Charlotte fill that role.

Miles was really intently staring at Claire. Sawyer took it the wrong way, of course, leading to his humorous “restraining order” comment. I think we, the viewers, know better than Sawyer, though. Miles sensed something about her. If Claire died in that explosion, that would explain it, but if she didn’t, then what would he be staring at her so intently for?

Rose comments that people don’t get sick on the Island—they get better. We know of another person who got sick: Ben. The question we need to ask is whether or not Jack getting sick is the Island’s doing and if so, why? Were the Oceanic Six never supposed to leave? Did Ben get a tumor because the Island didn’t want him to turn the Frozen Donkey Wheel? These events, due to the philosophy of “whatever happened, happened” we saw in Season Five, seem inevitable. Was the Island or a powerful entity residing on it trying to change history?

Jack’s first glimpse of Christian Shephard was reminiscent of Christian’s appearances on the Island in White Rabbit.

Poor Hurley’s stopped taking his meds in Santa Rosa! Say it ain’t so! :faintthud

Hurley tells Jack they’re all dead, and what if he’s partially correct? What if anyone who died on the Island became a part of the Island? Maybe the entire Temple contains dead-but-heres—characters we’ve met and lost over the course of the entire show. Maybe these dead characters can go anywhere and that’s how Charlie and Eko can visit Hurley. Maybe Claire did die and somehow isn’t aware of that until Christian comes to collect her. The next time we see her, she is entirely different—almost like she took a little trip to The Temple and lost her innocence. Maybe to lose that innocence and gain some new perspective, you have to be dead.

Hurley initially was repelled by Charlie’s first manifestation. Now he seems to take comfort in getting to spend time with his deceased friend. Somehow, in a very weird way, that makes me happy for Hurley—he seems so lonely, you know? :)

Hurley: “You’re not supposed to raise him, Jack.” – At first glance, this seems to be a reference to raising Aaron, who, as we’ve been warned by Malkin in Season One, cannot be raised by anyone other than Claire. However, this could also be applied to Jack being responsible for bringing John Locke’s dead body back to the Island and allowing MiB to apparently gain access to it, making Locke appear to rise from the dead.

Charlotte slipped up and smiled as Jin and Sun were speaking about her in Korean. Sun did something very similar back in Season One in front of Kate.

Thankfully, Frank was there to save the day! Sawyer, Claire, and Miles were unknowingly headed right for Keamy’s group. That was such a tense moment when Keamy heard Aaron. That guy is scary! :scared:

Juliet finally had enough of Jack being stubborn and had Bernard knock him out with the chloroform. This is reminiscent of Kate putting sleeping pills in Jack’s food/water in an earlier season because he refused to rest.

Seeing Christian really pushed Jack over the edge. You could tell a shred of his sanity snapped during that scene. Next thing we know, he’s popping pills and drinking at the same time. This will lead to beardy, denim-wearing Jack.

Besides the fact that Christian is Aaron’s grandfather, it seems very important that Christian was holding Aaron in that brief scene. Will we be left to wonder just what kind of a significance Aaron posed on the show or will TPTB actually reveal his importance in the final season?

Juliet has finally accepted that Jack doesn’t love her and tells Kate, knowing that Jack is conscious to hear it. I felt bad for her at the time, but hey, she ends up with Sawyer—not a bad trade, huh? :nanabobo:

That flash-forward scene with Jack and Kate’s fight was extremely brutal. Jack’s actions played out like a lesson on what not to do in a relationship. He kept pushing and pushing and things got out of hand quickly. As if things weren’t bad enough, Aaron comes traipsing into the room at the end of their fight to make things extra awful. At that point, I think Jack realized he’d crossed a line and there’d be no going back.

Sawyer: “It’s way too early for Chinese.” :lmao:

Miles apparently saw Christian as well. Interesting…I wonder if Christian and Claire were aware they were being watched when they left camp.

Sawyer makes a valiant effort during his Michael impression, but screaming, “Claaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiire!” just isn’t the same as “Waaaaaaallllllllllllt!” Try it…you’ll see! :rotfl:

This episode mainly served to fill in the blanks in Jack’s flash-forward and the on-Island plot didn’t really advance much. Definitely not one of Season Four’s best, but also not the worst, either. Fortunately, the buildup to the finale kicks off in the next episode and stays strong to finish.
