sorry if this has been discussed already - or if this is the wrong forum - but do we know - and I mean REALLY know anything about his background yet? I was wondering if maybe he'd had some military experience before landing in the wheel chair.
Any info or where to look would be appreciated.
Thanks!

There has been no evidence in the show so far that would suggest at all that he has ever been in the military.

In fact, didn't Locke's boss say something to that effect (that he had no actual military background) when he was making fun of Locke playing Risk on his lunch break and sarcastically calling him "Colonel"?

In fact, didn't Locke's boss say something to that effect (that he had no actual military background) when he was making fun of Locke playing Risk on his lunch break and sarcastically calling him "Colonel"? He said that the HR records didn't show a military background, but all that means is Locke didn't put it on his application when he got the job. This isn't to say I think he was military but, on the other hand, it isn't proof positive he wasn't.
Military experience looks good on a resume, and Locke (assuming he has served in the military) seems like he would be very proud of it. Why wouldn't he put it on his resume?
The question is, why does his jackass boss care so much whether or not Locke was in the military? He really went so far as to dig through HR records so that he could have his moment making fun of an old handicapped guy? That has to make him , like, one of the top five saddest, most pathetic people on the planet, right behind that guy who punted his neighbor's puppy like a football.

A lot of people seem to want him to be a former special forces military etc. Maybe covert ops. Myself its a better story if thats not the case, he is living, living like He always dream of in the real world. I think he's someone that had a fantasy and one day awoke to his fantasy, physically strong , vital and respected (OK maybe feared is a better description).
I see the fantasy in many, hunters, backpackers and myself we wish to escape for a weekend but others a life time. Each character, each writer captures something we want or desire. Perhaps we disagree on the character but I hope we agree on the fact that we want to learn more about Locke.

Locke would have been the correct age to go to Vietnam. He may have been a draft dodger.
