So, here we all are at the end of our rewatch. I don't know how you want to do the rest of the rewatch, but we can stretch the finale out for three weeks and post in one thread or have seperate threads. Just let me know. Personally, I will probably want to watch it all over again before the premiere of S5, not to mention all of the extra fun stuff on the discs.
Thoughts?
Oh, Zia I haven't finished "Cabin Fever" yet ! Maybe we should do it all in one go over the three weeks, as Christmas week will be a bit of a rush. But I'm easy ! Christmas shopping - what Christmas shopping ? *Oooops* Good heavens, its only next week ! Thank goodness for Santa Clause ..... So five weeks until "Lost". :)
Tater is working to get this last transcript done so it is available for this re-watch. :D

Ok. I think after Christmas would be best then.
Yay for Tater :Hippy: I find those transcripts to be so valuable ! Last episode I watched once, then bits and pieces, and got the loose ends together by using the transcripts.

What's taters?
So, science guy already has the Orchid logo in his notebook? UH?
How? Is he working for Widmore? Where else could that info of come from?
Or is he a Dharma scientist with memory loss?
Summits up!
I said it before and ill say it again, isnt Sawer calling Miles - 'Genghis' - borderline racist?
Jack - idiot.
Great episode.
10/10

Pretty much, Shep, but I don't think he really gives a stuff ! He doesn't trust the guy, specially around Claire. There is a fine line between racism and just being a smartass. I don't think Sawyer is actually a racist, but if the nickname fits he'll use it. :) By using nicknames he doesn't have to get too close to anybody by using their real names.
I haven't even watched these epis yet, but I remember picking up on quite a few hints to keep us guessing for next season ! My brain (what's left of it !) has gone into overdrive :crazy1::eye-poppi

I agree Sawyer is just a little ignorant rather than actually racist, just surprised at that nickname, would of thought the writers woulda chosen another name.
Your right about this episode opening a whole can of worms for next season, Remember Suns arrival as a player?
HOT!
I don't think I can ever forgive Jack for sitting on that plane, smugly saying:-
Jack: Its okay. They'll ... they'll think that we're in shock.
Sun: We are in shock, Jack.
Jack: Well ... then, this should be easy.
That is just terrible, and that he was actually catching up on his beauty sleep while everyone else was totally stunned. But by the time they landed and the Press Conference started, things were already starting to become unstuck. The fact that Jack insisted on answering all the questions and nobody else said a word, and they all looked so sad, spoke volumes.
So where did the Secondary Protocol come from ? It was locked in the safe on the Kahana and needed two keys and two people to open it. I'm guessing Widmore had it in his possession and had instructed Keamy to use it to get hold of Ben before he moved the island. Daniel was sure scared out of his wits. "We have to get off this island - right now."
Meanwhile Jack was bravely battling on to get to the helicopter with his suppurating wound. He and Kate bump into a distraught Sawyer, taking Aaron back to the beach with Miles, having lost Claire (actually she was with Jack's Dad.) They both give him hell and Sawyer tells him about the shootout at the Barracks, "Just like Locke said they would." Sawyer then goes off with Jack saying "You don't get to die alone". Kate runs back to the beach with Aaron but you can bet she won't be there for long ! bbl !
Just an interesting little comment I picked up from Keamy - when Frank was flying the Mercs to the Orchid (I think) Keamy orders him to land. Frank informs him they are still 5 clicks out. It just intrigued me because this term is used only in the military in the U.S. Back in "Expose" Sawyer was doing his "perimeter sweep" (also a military term I think) and he mentioned something about "2 clicks back in the jungle". Is this maybe giving us a hint that Sawyer could have at one time been a member of the armed forces ? Just another of my wild imaginings ! Or maybe it is a term used in jail as well.

Nice catch Ozanna. "Click" or more correctly "Klick" is US military slang for kilometre. I can understand Frank being ex-military, but Sawyer is a whole different matter. I can't think of any Sawyer scenes that would indicate a military background. He went from orphan to teenage delinquent to professional conman, along with some prison time. Where would he have fit in the military, or at the least, spent time in a country that measures distance in kilometers?
GardenMom - this military terminology has been bugging me since way back in "Expose" ! That whole episode bugged me ! Sawyer appeared to be having a series of episodes of deja vue ! I probably mentioned that at the time. I will wait impatiently ! But James Ford and the military don't seem to go well together !
btw Australia measures distances in kilometers, but I think Sawyer was only here in time to kill Duckett.

I suppose Sawyer could have picked up the term from his vast reading, but imo, it would be unusual for an American to be able to use the term accurately to measure distance. The majority of us just don't think in kilometers.

Good call Ozanna.
I thought the US used Kilometers?
I never realised it was a nickname, thought the phrase had it's own measurement system lol.
It's prob just used as slang though.
Hi, Shep !
I just googled Klicks and apparently it became commonly used by the military in the Vietnam War, possibly earlier, Korea ? So yes, Sawyer could have got it from his prolific reading and watching of movies. But why would he use the term in real life unless he was accustomed to using it, and it wasn't a civilian term. Oh well, just another little thing for me to nitpick on ! Sawyer in the armed forces - I find it hard to believe, although he knows his way around a big gun :D ! Maybe in another time ....

Ahahahaha.
Found out when ur getting Season 5 yet?
Ahahahaha.
Found out when ur getting Season 5 yet?
No ..... :rolleyez: I'm pretty well expecting it to be later in the year - maybe May/June, in which case it won't be so bad 'cos I can keep up with it on-line, and then we down unders will get our own personal re-run  Assuming it isn't just cancelled, that is ! (Just trying to keep positive !)
Maybe Ch.7 get a deal if they air it later in the season. Last year I think the ratings weren't so good - they fast tracked it and then kept changing the time slot and putting it up against "The Footy Show", which rates better than anything because it is live and its funny and Melbourne is footy crazy. I hate footy but I've been known to watch it because its funny and you never know what's gonna happen next ! But "Greys Anatomy" can do no wrong - If I have to see another promo of MrDreary and Meredeath locking lips again I may just throw up ! :D

I think its a sign of Season 5's inconsistency in that I watched this a couple of days ago and now I cant really remember anything about it, bit gimmicky ya see.
Move the island, thats about it.

I love this episode, a) because of Michael's AMAZING score (the Oceanic 6 rescue theme is one of my newer favorites of his) and b) because of one of the best Jack moments ever - Finding out Claire was his sister - I remember waiting and waiting for him to find out and I CRIED for him, cause Jack is that good. :D And I love the end. Great music montage, along with the question of "How are the Oceanic 6 going to end up together????" cause Kate and Sayid are with the Others, Jack and Sawyer ran off in the jungle (AGAIN) to get Hurley, and yeah, Sun and Aaron are on the boat, but SO IS JIN SO WHAT THE HELL HAPPENS TO JIN!!! lol Thank you Lost for moments like that!

Season Four’s finale was an exciting event for me because LOST hasn’t had a three hour finale since Season One. Since Season Four was shot during the Writer’s Strike, I was really afraid we’d get a crappy hour-long finale. LOST wrapping even a short season up in a single hour? No freakin’ way! Instead, TPTB got the usual two-hour finale and actually talked ABC into giving them an extra hour which was absolutely fantastic; it really helped soften the blow of a shorter season for me. :thumbs_up
Season Four’s finale is multi-centric which also hasn’t happened since Season One’s finale.
The more I think about it, the more I believe Season Four is a mirror of Season One; only instead of flashbacks, we get flashforwards, and instead of how they got on the Island, this season is about how the Oceanic Six got off the Island. The symmetry between these seasons really impresses me.
The way they wrapped Season Four up over the last three hours was fantastic. The flashforwards we saw throughout the season paint a certain picture of the future. By the time we actually see the Oceanic Six leave in There’s No Place Like Home Part 2, we’ve come full circle and any blank spots left on the canvas, so to speak, are filled in. This sets us up for a new time period to begin Season Five. Instead of backtracking, as this season mainly did due to the flashforwards, Season Five will begin moving forward again.
The first scene was awesome. The Oceanic Six were so emotionally drained on the plane and that created a fair sense of dread. You could tell something really dire happened right before they left the Island. The music was perfect in this scene—emotional and stirring as the plane touched down. It was great seeing Hurley, Jack, and Sun reunite with their parents and I laughed when Hurley introduced Sayid to his mother. Poor Kate didn’t have anyone waiting for her.
The last words Juliet says to Jack for three years are, “Don’t bleed to death, Jack” as she quickly storms away. Between Something Nice Back Home and this episode, it sounds like she’s washed her hands of him completely.
Miles walking out of the jungle completely oblivious to Jack and Kate was pretty classic!
Sawyer to Jack: “What’s with you getting off the Island? You’re like a damn, broken record!”
Jack says it was his call to put Desmond and Sayid on that chopper, but in The Economist, Sayid makes it very clear it was his own decision (going so far as to tell Jack he’s not going along), and nobody twisted Desmond’s arm, either. Jack has this really crippling complex to “save everybody” and “do everything”.
The Oceanic Six returned to the real world on day 108. That number really does haunt them all, doesn’t it?
During the press conference, Jack says there were originally eight survivors (not counting Aaron since he wasn’t born yet). The three he names are Boone, Libby, and Charlie. Many fans wondered why the Oceanic Six would make this up. Personally, I think Jack tacked the three on to make their story a little more believable. It would be unlikely that every single person who made it off the plane would also survive over 108 days to get rescued. I think three survivors dieing gives their story a small flavor of reality.
That said, there are many aspects of the Oceanic Six’s story that doesn’t add up. Aaron’s supposed age of five weeks compared to his actual age is the biggest hint. You could tell the press weren’t buying that one. Anyone else seen The Oceanic Six: A Conspiracy of Lies? It’s a mockumentary on the Season Four DVDs which tears their story apart. It’s very interesting!
That’s awesome how Locke instinctually knew to throw the Dharma crackers to Hurley and Ben tells Hurley the crackers are fifteen years old. :nanabobo:
That was great how Juliet trusted Daniel to ferry people to the freighter and how Sayid trusted Juliet’s trust in Daniel. He really was a great guy and he wanted so very much to help them. Too bad he was unintentionally bringing all those redshirts to the freighter to get slaughtered.
Sun’s revenge against her father was immensely satisfying. I especially loved it when he sank back down into his chair, speechless. She considered two people responsible for Jin’s “death”; one was her father and, we find out the other was Ben in Season Five. I’m still trying to figure out how she knew Ben had something to do with the freighter exploding. Anyone else know who could have told her this?
Were those the famous whispers from the Island or did Hurley simply hear the guests at his surprise party? :hmm:
Hurley’s mom, matter-of-factly: “Jesus Christ is not a weapon.” :lmao:
That was a pretty touching scene between Hurley and his father. I really like how one of our characters finally got over their daddy issues. And of course the numbers spoil this touching moment, but their inclusion was pretty cool. Just when you think they’re gone… :eek1:
The scene when Jin and Sun are smiling at each other on the Zodiac with the touching music used to get me, especially when I thought Jin might’ve actually died on the freighter. Thank god they didn’t kill him off, although, as I said in a previous episode’s recap, I sincerely hope they do way more with his character in the final season than they did in Season Five.
That entire scene between Jack and Claire’s mom was spectacular. Jack’s reaction when she told him her daughter’s name was “Claire” reminded me of the same reaction he had when he saw his dead father in Something Nice Back Home. There goes yet another shred of your sanity, doc. That was also wicked ironic when Claire’s mom told Kate her “son” was beautiful, unaware Aaron was actually her granddaughter. I had no idea we would see her again so soon in Season Five. I really liked how Kate came clean to her and gave Aaron over before returning to the Island.
Though brief, it was nice that we got to see Michael reunite with Sun and Jin considering how much his character arc was entwined with theirs in Season One.
That was awesome seeing Richard and the Others again. It’s funny how badly I wanted to see the Others get beat in Season Three and by the end of Season Four, I’m practically rooting for them to beat Keamy’s grunts. This goes to show how extreme situations really color your perspective.
Ben turning himself in to Keamy’s goons was unexpected, but we know he always has a plan, so I wasn’t too worried about it. I laughed when he went briefly cross-eyed when Keamy put the gun to his head. :rolleyes4
The scenes with the dramatic music at the end of the episode were pretty good because they served to show how scattered the Oceanic Six were and it really made us wonder, “How in the world are these six people going to end up getting off the Island?” It also was a nod to Season One’s multi-centric finale when we saw the passengers of Flight 815 getting settled for their fateful flight.
This episode is a typical set-up for a season finale. All the pieces are in place, so to speak, and all that’s left is to knock each down.
We flash forward, then we flash back and then, well I am not so sure I liked it in this episode. The score for this episode was awesome! I laughed, yet again, when Sawyer calls Frank Shaggy. :rofl1: Jack finds out he has a sister and Aaron is his 1/2 nephew. Hurley freaks about his Camaro. I used to own a '73 Camaro. Wish I still hade it.
The episode came to a nice crescendo. Sayid and Kate being caught by Alpert and company. All that C4 on the boat. Hurley wants to get off the island. The Orchid was great. Keamy knocking Ben out was a nice touch. lol
The excitement builds. :hyper:
