View Full Version : Sluggish Wireless Mouse

Has anyone else had this problem? I've had the wireless for a year and a few months, an absolutely loved it until lately. It's become increasingly sluggish, I've had to click things several times, or it's been so trigger happy that it opens applications twice when I've only clicked once.
It was dragging when I moved it, to the point where I wore my mouse pad out cleaning it, thinking it must be hanging up on something.
I ordered a new one (from our aStore :D) and it's just a supreme pleasure. The old one went "bad" so gradually that it took me a long time to realize what the problem was.

The only time this has ever happened to me was when the batteries went bad. Other than that, I've had the same mouse for over ten years and love it love it love it.

With this one, it would happen even with new batteries. Not at first, but later. But I really didn't like the mouse all that much. It had two extra buttons on the right and left edges that did things I didn't want to do if I hit them by mistake. The left one always took me back a page, which can be a real pain when you've just composed a post and are preparing to hit "post quick reply."
I could go in and change the action hitting the button would perform, but to no avail; whenever I hit that one accidentally, I would go back a page (or pages). Silly mouse. The button was cleverly positioned very close to where I would almost have to hit it, too.

Is it optical, too, or just wireless?

Yes, also optical. (Both are optical)

Run a scan? Maybe some click reading varmint program is getting in the way.

I scan regularly with Norton, Ad-Aware and Windows Defender, but that's always possible. I can tell you that with the new mouse, everything is running very quickly and nicely. I sometimes wonder if I wore the old one out.

Yes, my Microsoft Explorer Mouse (v2.0) had the same problem. It was either my young niece or nephew who is to blame. That and IE8 Beta 2, it locked up and crashed. They undoubtedly sat there and pounded on the button when IE8 locked up.
I've had the mouse since 2003 (Five years) which is relatively ancient by today's standards. My keyboard is even older (also a Microsoft product).

If it was a Microsoft mouse, in the Intellipoint software, you can have program specific actions. It's very likely that if you're using Internet Explorer, Microsoft has specific actions tied to IE.
However, I've modified the actions of the buttons on my mouse and had them work just fine. So, it should work.

Hey, Bud, thanks for looking at this. :)
The old one was a Dynex - here (http://www.amazon.com/Dynex-Wireless-Optical-Mouse-DX-WLMSE/dp/B0010W8INI)it is on Amazon. See the silver buttons on the sides? Just a pain in the neck, I don't miss them a bit.
It never mattered what function I chose for that darned left silver button, if I hit it, I would go back a page if I was on the internet. If I did it while playing a game or using another program, it did nothing that I could notice.
ETA: Not that it's a problem for me anymore, because I have a new mouse. But life got so much better that I had to share. It may be possible that I once slammed that mouse in anger, maybe that was the start of my problems with sluggishness.

Ah....
With the Microsoft mice, the Intellipoint software allows you to set specific commands for an application or general functions.
Originally, Microsoft configured their two buttons for forward and back (in Web browsers). Forward, however is pretty much useless unless you've navigated back first. So, now the one button is configured for a magnifying feature, while the other remains back.
I was mostly replying to say yes, I've had the same problem and it was a broken mouse (button).
The mouse I purchased to replace my previous one is the Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 v2 (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=010). The only problem with it is you need special laser absorbing mouse pads. I've already gone through two desks. Though as a router it actually can't be beat! :D
Mouse gestures. Your best friend if you use Firefox or Opera. It's the deal-breaker that stopped me from using IE years and years ago.

Mouse gestures?
ETA: I just looked it up.
You can go back/forward on a page, close a tab, open a new tab, open a new browser window, close a browser window and a bunch of other things just by moving your mouse or hitting certain buttons.
Holding down the right mouse button and moving the mouse ---> goes forward through history. Holding down the right button and moving the mouse <---- goes back one page. Or you can hit right click, and then left to go back. Or click left and then right, to go forward.
Holding the right mouse button and moving the mouse down opens a new tab, etc.
They're all fully customizable so you can make the commands whatever you want. It's so you don't have to physically go up to the back/forward buttons to do things, and you don't have to place your hands on the keyboards to use keyboard shortcuts.

:rotfl:
Laughing at myself, not you, Mattie. I don't even use keyboard shortcuts. I tried once, long ago, and had the IT tech trying to teach me rolling on the floor. It's sad.
:rotfl:
I hate keyboard shortcuts. But I hate navigating to the top of the browser when I just want to go back too. I've been using mouse gestures for a good 5-6 years they just seem so natural.
If I load Internet Explorer momentarily for something and visit a site, I catch myself right clicking and trying to go back and it doesn't work and it takes me a second to realize why. :rotfl:

It took me a long time to use the mouse in the first place, I tried very hard to prove I didn't need it (WRONG). My boss finally sat me down with Freecell and told me to play it with the mouse until I could use it. I can still remember my pitiful attempts to drag and drop. Coordination is not my middle name. :D
