This is my first time posting here, so go easy on me ;)
After watching last night's episode (1/13), I kept thinking about how Locke's behavior seems vaguely familiar. Then I realized it's that he reminds me of Jeff Bridges' character in the movie "Fearless." Has anyone seen this film? It's about a man who survives a plane crash and his reaction to having this near-death experience. Basically, he believes he's invincible and has this emotional "high" from the ordeal.
I feel as if Locke is also on this "high" after being able to walk and coming face to face with whatever it is. He's almost living in another realm. In "Fearless," the protagonist feels no one understands him because he's come face to face with death and survived. He's always trying to get people to see from his perspective. I feel Locke is also doing this and trying to show people that what the island has to offer is not frightening but exhilarating.
As a side note, some of the opening scenes of "Lost" are eerily reminiscent of scenes in "Fearless" when the plane is going down.
Anyone else see "Fearless" (I know, it's old) and similar thoughts?
