Locke is the character that makes the show worth watching. I'm not talking about for the soccer moms and teeny bopper chicks that wanna see the young guys...I mean...he's the guy that makes the plot thicken...the guy that you're not quite sure about. Thats the kind of thing that makes you wanna know more. I could care less about most of the other characters right now...but Locke has some mystery to him. I know they all have "secrets" or whatever....but most of the other secrets are lame..."I get high", "Im a criminal" etc etc.

Locke's might be something wild like "Ive got a collection of human skulls in my basement".

He may creep the little girls out around here....but to me..he rocks.

You mean Scary Bald Guy? If so, then I agree; I liked his charactor - er, not liked, really...was interested by, I guess - sincd the first episode, when he stood oddly in the rain. Then when his mouth was orange...that was bizarre.

Is that the guy you're talking about?

Speaking as a little girl, we are not all creeped out. Locke is what it's all about.

The moment with the orange peel smile was the one that totally sold me on the show. The tragic miscommunication between Locke and Kate portrayed there stole my heart.

Hell yeah. I admit it (have I ever denied it?) I'm a charlie fan, I have a super bad crush on Dom, a really bad one.....
But thats not the reason I watch. I want the story, I want a good show, I want to be entertained, and I want to think. Locke is pivotal in this, he is the catalyst. Without him this would, probably, jsut be another show out there, Locke is interesting and we know absolutly nothing about him, he is one of the big mysteries of the island. I want to know his sercret too, cause once we know, the show will never be the same.

and how nice of him to find the boy his dog and then make it look like the father did it.

He told the kid "a miracle happened here".

Whether or not the plane crash was the miracle for some reason or a miracle happened on the island before is what I am wondering.

All anyone really knows is what he told walt.
his secret:
"A Miracle Happened Here."
Let The Speculation Begin.....eerr....continue I should say....

Kate's caught my attention with her mystery background but Locke is most definitely a man to watch. He's always thinking. In some form there is a bomb in the man ready to explode. When it does we will all be shocked by either what he verbally reveals or does.

Clearly, Locke is a mystic of sorts...a wonderfully rich character to bring to t.v. which has become so mudane and devoid of spirituailty.

This is such a great character!

He told the kid "a miracle happened here".I heard "a miracle happened to him". (And I just doublechecked to be sure).

So I think the miracle happened specifically to Locke-- my idea so far is that maybe something happened to him during the crash where he knew he was being saved-- (and maybe the other people in his section of the plane only survived because of his miracle?) And now after this experience, he has some sort of heightened sense of good & evil, which is why they play the creepy music and show his face when evil is near...

I have a more far fetched idea. What if he was on the island before? What if the french woman was wrong and not everyone died? What if he was part of whatever was going on on the island 16 years ago but he escaped. And now, some there is some kind of pull to the island that won't let him escape. Maybe HE's the reason the plane crashed. So that he would end up back on the island.

What if Locke's miracle was just that he wasn't buckled up in the plane, yet didn't fall out. That would be a miracle. A boring one, but still a miracle.

I thought Walt said, "A miracle will happen here."

Interviews also say that "out of all of the survivors, Locke is the happiest to be there."

I don't think Locke's helping Michael is a good thing. We know Michael didn't want Walt hanging around Locke. So what does Locke do? He helps Michael, so now Michael is indebted to Locke and won't be as suspicious of Locke's actions as he would have been.

Aw, can't the guy just do a good deed and it NOT have a secret motive.

"Aw, can't the guy just do a good deed and it NOT have a secret motive."

If not for that last ten second sequence, I would say certainly. But the expression on Locke's face wasn't joy, for helping a boy and his father. It was neutral, and given how excited he SEEMED talking to Michael about finding the dog... It doesn't add up, to me. I seriously doubt he was doing Michael any favors, by essentially helping him lie to his son. I just get this sense of duplicity from Locke--he knows something the others do not, haven't even guessed at, and that makes him pretty damn powerful.

As for the question of what Walt actually said the "secret" Locke told him was.....Why doesn't someone who has the episode on tape watch it with the closed captioning feature turned on their television set. That way it will be clear.

Just a thought.......
