Previous Season 5 discussion threads can be found in Episode Discussion Threads: Season Five (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=329).
There are just a few things that I'd like to mention in order to hopefully make everyones viewing of the Episode Discussion Threads a little more enjoyable:
* First off, if you haven't already, please take a moment and read the forum guidelines (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31509). Many questions can be answered by simply taking a few moments and reading them over.
* For those who don't want to "flip" through so many pages while reading the episode discussion threads (or any large threads), you can set the number of posts to view per page as high as 60. Just go to UserCP > Edit Options > Thread Display Options > Number of Posts to Show Per Page. The available options are Use Forum Default, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 60. Forum Default is 10. *NOTE: Increasing the number of posts to view per page may increase page loading times.*
* Want to revisit a topic that has possibly been discussed already? Then please view the Guys? Where are we? (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=4) forum where any and all topics from all seasons of LOST are open for discussion.
* Have a new twist on a possibly older theory? Then stop by the What I think is going on (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=5) forum and let us hear about it.
* Both "Guys? Where are we?" and "What I think is going on" are where you can re-hash old ideas, concepts, and theories to your hearts content without worrying about your posts being merged or moved.
* If you have a question about how to add an avatar, a profile picture, a signature picture, how to get into chat, or how to edit your location, please visit the LOST-TV Help Desk (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=48). You can most likely find the answer to your question there. If you cannot, then feel free to start a new post there about the problem you're having. The moderators, administrators, as well as some regular members here keep a very close eye on that forum and your question will not go unanswered for long.
* If you have a question how to find past episodes of LOST, please take a look at the Miss an Episode? (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6657) thread. *Please note that discussing illegal downloading of episodes is not allowed here.*
* If you have a question about what so-and-so may have said in a past episode, please take a moment and look through the transcripts (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=204) of past episodes. These episodes have been transcribed by members of the forum.
* If you have a website related to LOST that you'd like to mention for everyone to check out, please post it in the Advertise your LOST site/RPG here! (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36018) thread.
* If you're looking to see if something has been posted here before related to LOST, please take a moment and perform a Search (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/search.php) of the forums. That link will allow you to search the entire forum in the event that you may not know where something has been mentioned or is currently being discussed. A great deal of work has gone into ensuring the Search function here is very thorough so please utilize it.
* If someone uses a word, acronym, or slang that you're unfamiliar with, please check the LOST-TV Dictionary (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39798) as it will likely answer your questions.
* If you're having a problem unrelated to LOST and need help from the moderators and/or administrators, feel free to PM any of us. We'll be glad to help you out. You can find a list of the mods/admins here (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showgroups.php) as well as at the bottom of the thread listings for each individual forum.
Thank you all for your time.

S5E1 “Because You Left”
S5E2 “The Lie”
BIG QUESTIONS:
“It hasn’t been built yet.”
Hostile indigenous population?
Who is the “client” wanting Kate’s blood tested?
How did Daniel get there?
Ben to Jack: Did he tell you what happened after the island moved? Does this mean Jack and Locke were in contact before Locke’s death?
Widmore searched for island 20 years “the first time”?
The only way to save the island is for Locke to die? Save it from what?
Why is Desmond “special”?
Who is Neil?
Who is Jill? An other?
What is Ben “about to do?”
Who is shooting the flaming arrows?
Who is the cut-her-other-hand-off guy?
What is the jeweler’s real job? Was she in a hatch?
What was the pendulum doing?
QUESTIONS ANSWERED:
The Orchid was built to harness energy to manipulate time.
Locke had to die in order to get the 06 back to the island.
QUESTIONS SOMEONE SHOULD HAVE ASKED:
Sawyer should have pressed Daniel more about why it took him so long to get his pack.
BEHIND THE EP TITLE:
Things that happened because the O6 left, the lie they all agreed upon.
SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF:
Kate doesn’t have any kind of birth certificate whatsoever for Aaron. How long did she think she could go on with no one suspecting something? He would have to have it for school, at least.
PARALLEL LINES/SCENES:
Dr. Candle waking and playing LP/Desmond waking and playing LP
CULTURAL REFERENCES:
Hurley: The Godfather
LOST COLORS (ORANGE & RED):
Hurley’s Shitzu shirt
Hurley’s mom’s dress
LOST FOOD:
fries
an animal that died in the jungle (eeewww)
LOST LOCATIONS:
Los Angeles
Oxford
NUMBERS:
8:15 AM
Orientation Film #2
3 years earlier
Chamber 20 meters behind rock
Took Widmore 20 years to find the island ‘the first time”
70 hours for Ben
MUSIC:
Shotgun Willie
Strains of “Life Given, Life Taken” during hotel scene with Jack and Ben
FAVORITE LINES:
Faraday’s explanation of time using the spinning record reference, so cool along with all the records we’ve seen
“Libby says hi” LOL!
Hurley “push the button every 108 minutes or…I was never really clear on that.” LOL! Loved that whole summary.
FAVORITE SCENES
Nigerian plane!
Vincent!!!
Hurley running to police, but geez for a second I thought they might be Ben’s goons.
NICKNAMES:
Ginger
Danny Boy
GREAT CINEMATOGRAPHY:
That kitchen scene with Sayid and the dishwasher mishap looked very difficult to film—dark and close quarters.
KLEENEX MOMENTS:
flashbacks of Jin
MORE THAN COINCIDENCE:
Kate and Hurley at the same gas station.
OUCH:
Sawyer slapping Faraday
Richard removing the bullet
SERIOUSLY CREEPY:
Ethan!!!
Flaming arrows!
MINOR QUESTIONS:
How did Sayid know someone was there just because that piece of tape was cut?
JUST CAN’T WRAP MY HEAD AROUND THIS:
So the Others are the original island dwellers, then Dharma is a different group who came to study them? And Widmore is tied into Dharma? I’ve been here 4 years and thought I had it together, sheesh.
SUMMARY:
Well…of course I loved it because it’s LOST. But I kind of felt like there were some really cheesy reveals—like keeping people turned around and then WHAM here’s the face, see who it is! And some lines spoken very deliberately to answer questions. I miss the consternation of LOST! The flaming arrows were a heart-racing scene, but I hoped for more of that kind of action. But I still loved it!

Here are my burning questions from tonight:
1) Why is Charlotte the only one having the nosebleeds?
2) Is it because she left the island in the past, and when she returned on the helicopter, it had gone off course?
3) That would explain why Miles isn't having an issue, because he's only been there once?
4) Why does Daniel want Desmond to find Daniel's mom, and not Charlotte's, if Charlotte is the one who needs a link to someone?
5) The only guess I have is that Daniel and Charlotte share the same mother.
6) But if that's true, I get the impression that Charlotte doesn't know...
7) My guess, going back to our very opening scene in ep 1 tonight, is that Daniel is not from the 70's, he is with the Losties but that's the time they have jumped to, and Daniel has infiltrated the Orchid in an effort to get things back to normal.
8) I think we may not see that scene again for a very long time.
Well I'm looking forward to this discussion.....................................
Do we have Sun working with Widmore and Jack working with Ben - both competing for the O6 - as to who gets to go back to the island?
We have 70 hrs to sort this out according to Mrs. Hawking.
Locke is going to the future and the past....along with those remaining on the island.
Why aren't Richard & the Others skipping through time? But the Losties are....as is Juliet. Why isnt Juliet experiencing the same as the other Others?
Why was Daniel at the Orchid with the Pierre Chang?
:teu87:
Every time they showed Locke and the rest of the island people, is that stuff that happened 3 years ago? I'm very confused.

On slow-scan, it looks as if Mrs. Hawking is in a measuring station of sorts... using the formulas and knowledge of the island to determine when it's going to "appear" in the present time... 70 hours from now in the middle of the south Pacific.
Does anyone know that that very large pendulum apparatus was that was scribing the large piece of glass? I think that what Mrs. Hawking is using to determine 70 hour window.

Every time they showed Locke and the rest of the island people, is that stuff that happened 3 years ago? I'm very confused.
I was assuming that the time travel is happening immediately after the island moves. However, why would Desmond be going to Oxford three years after they've left the island? That wouldn't save Charlotte - that would be too late.
Also, when Ben ends up in Tunisia, is he three years after the crash or before it?

No, the pendulum thing is just a toy. It is called a Foucoult, and it processes the rotation of the earth. It is possible it is helping solve the equation, but more likely it is just a cool prop.

could that possibly be the reason Desmond and Locke had to push the button every 108?????????
No. I think the numbers were entered so that the island wouldn't jump around.
When they failed the island started to phase, but Desmond turned the fail safe key.
That's why the island was out of sync with everything going on around it - it only shifted a bit.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I think so... Sun's meeting with Kate was more then a little catching up IMO.. I think Sun's laying the groundwork to get Kate on her side.
We have 70 hrs to sort this out according to Mrs. Hawking.
I guess... just thrilled to have her back in the storyline as some sort of uber-knowitall
Locke is going to the future and the past....along with those remaining on the island.
I guess now that the record isn't skipping.. it's bouncing all over the place... future, past... unpredictable?
Why aren't Richard & the Others skipping through time? But the Losties are....as is Juliet. Why isnt Juliet experiencing the same as the other Others?
I think the ones that aren't time traveling are the original Hostiles... and I think there's a lot more to them then we've been shown yet. Whoever they are, I'm betting they were the first ever inhabitants on the island.. and some may even have 4-toes.
Why was Daniel at the Orchid with the Pierre Chang?
I think someone already nailed that one... infiltrating the operation to either study it or get things back on track... and I think we won't be getting back around to that scene till the finale (or thereabouts)

If Richard told Locke that he is not moving through time, Locke is - then why would he then tell Locke that the next time they meet, it would be Richard who wouldn't recognize Locke?
I know that this connects to when Richard visits Locke as a child and asks him which object belongs to him, and Locke does NOT pick the compass, which pisses Richard off.
What I can't figure out is how to connect the dots in time.
Why doesn't Richard know Locke? I thought he is impervious to time travel?

in Epi 1, the island was skipping around through time.. to a time of the Yemi drug plane crash, to a time in the future... after the hatch implosion.. skipping back and forth among times...
in epi 2 i think its all taking place in the past.. in whatever year the drug plane crashed...
So we witnissed.. Sept 04 thru Dec 04 or so
The 815 crash to the island moving
and the Oceanic 6 are in 2007-2008, time has gone by off the island... no warping tho.. they are experiencing time normally..
And the islanders are now all over the place.. in a few diff times.. but we didnt see any purple light events in epi 2, so the island must of settled in whatever time the drug plane crashed... at least for now...
anyone notice Hawkins dark black beady scary eyes in that last scene?

Well, thank God for Lovely Cindy appearing in the recap. It put me in a preternaturally good mood that allowed me to ride out the train wreck that was S5E1.
I said TPTB were too sloppy to pull time travel off, and the sheer silliness of that episode bore me out. Desmond doesn't remember the guy who hammered on his hatch door babbling about helicopters and explosions? Ethan doersn't remember the bald headed boob who disappeared just before he shot him? Oh, puh-leez.
The first episode sucked in ways that made the vanishing chasm of Season One look like the good ol' days. It sucked in more ways that I care to remember. I dread the mounting pile of idiocy that that plot device is sure to build up. Gagh... it sucked so much I was happy to see Anna Lucia sneer her way back onto the screen. If you know me, you know that's no minor statement.
As bad as Episode was, and it was bad in ways there are no adjectives for, Episode II was a return to the Lost I know and love. Ghosts popping up with unfathomable agendas, is Ben Eeeevil (as if we think he isn't) or is he not? Why does Mrs Hawkings with her malarkey about the Universe "course correcting" itself worry so much about it not course correcting itself in this situation? Perhaps free will trumps her universe after all?
Pluse, I've argued for a long time that Tablua Rasa, along with the other two first three flashback episodes, was critical to the theme of Lost. In particular the scene where Kate tries to escape from the farm (the surrogate island) like a thief in the night instead of just telling Ray she had to go. She chose deception, and all bad things have flowed from that decision. They beat us over the head that notion -- not lying is critical to what happens -- with Hurley's stroy line in the second episode (and by the way, Jorge Garcia acted his little heart out in that episode -- props to him).
Anyhoo... I reckon Episode One was for the Mythology fanboys, and we'll have to put up with the time travel nonsense from time to time like we had to put up with the numbers in Season One. Episode Two touched more effectively on the themes and characters of the show. I liked the second episode better, but I suppose a fair share of the fans are delighted by the time travel stuff.

Exactly. Ben knew he had to leave, otherwise he'd be shifting with the rest of them. The teleportation thing is interesting, and I'm guessing it's because he was so close to the concentration of whatever power is causing the time shifting.

Not exactly, Chud.
Ben jumped, but not to 3 years later where Jack is a stonie. He jumped about 10 months.
Remember, he recruits Sayid, who works for him (according to Sayid tonight) for about 2 years.
But apparently, now that we are 3 years out of the O6 departure from the island, Sayid and Ben have parted ways.
It will be interesting to see what it was that made Sayid return to not liking Ben and leaving his assassin job.

Maybe the writers should write something without humongous plot holes that require the viewers to twist themselves into pretzels to explain away. The mechanics of time travel on Lost are laughable in how inconsistent they are.
Remember last year -- people's consciousness sloshed around until they got nosebleeds amd their heads exploded? Now whole groups of people get flung hither and yon along the time line, sometimes together, sometimes separately.
Eh, so much for the Season IV rules of time travel (which were a mess in their own way). Do any of you doubt that in a future episode they'll write themselves into another plot corner, only to escape it by having Daniel paw through his notebook and come up with some new bunkum to explain things away?

"Mrs. Hawking" was in "Flashes Before Your Eyes" (The Desmond FB eppy that revealed what happened when he turned the Failsafe Key).

so awesome! I'm so glad this show is back so I can get some quality tv watching done!
I've got a couple of things about tonight. First off, where Locke was shot by Ethan, was that the same place he lost the use of his legs in S1? perhaps a connection?
second, I was trying to figure out how Richard isn't phasing with the Losties but then I thought maybe its because he and the rest of the others went to the Temple? maybe they did something there that allowed them to stay put in time. Maybe the Temple is safe from the island's time issues? Goodwin's wife appeared to Juliet when she was supposed to be at the temple so maybe when the others were around doing things they were actually somehow projecting themselves around the island, all the while staying safe at the Temple.
- When they failed the island started to phase, but Desmond turned the fail safe key.
That's why the island was out of sync with everything going on around it - it only shifted a bit.
I'm not so sure on this one. Remember Michael had to follow a certain bearing on the boat to get back to civilization and he was told this before Des blew the hatch.
oh and the moment Mrs Hawking (!) entered into an obvious church I immediately thought of the monk who had the picture of himself with her on his desk.

Okay, stay with me here, I just had a thought that might make ALL of our noses bleed as our heads collectively explode.
IF: flight 815 crashed because Desmond didn't push the button in time, can we also say that the reason we see Echo's plane crash when they jump in time is that if anyone is near the "hidden" island when it time shifts, they crash?
And, IF you follow that logic, when they shifted again, further back in time (we believe) could that be the moment when DANIELLE's boat lost course and crashed on the island?
That would mean that each time they shift, someone else might show up.
Meaning, the next time they shift, we might meet Henry Gale and his not so fortunate balloon?
I love this show, and I love they way it makes me very smart.... or completely foolish... Time will tell...

Evening everyone!
LTWFTP here. But the 'cut off her arm' guys, they looked like to me to be in military uniforms with M1 rifles. I'm thinking WWII era here.... I know a huge time jump. But remember they found a WWII era knife in S1 if I remember correctly on the island. That would tie in..
Just thought I'd toss that out there... crazy episodes, huh ?!?

Time will tell...
makes perfect sense... each time the island went into the past.. the island attracted a new plane or ship...

My quick reaction: Excellent episode(s). If you just accept that the time travel elements on this show aren't going to make sense under scrutiny, these are the kinds of episodes that makes this show fun.
My dad called it with regard to who Daniel's mother was right when Dan told Desmond to go find his mother. It didn't even occur to me until he mentioned it.
I love the way they've set up the whole "we need to get everyone back to the island" concept. Sure, it's not making a whole lot of sense why that has to happen, but if you just take it on faith that it's what has to be done to save everyone's lives, it's going to be a great ride seeing how that all plays out.
I can best summarize it by saying that after waiting 9 months or so for a new episode of LOST, I got pretty much everything I was hoping for and I wasn't disappointed. So they did their job.
While the time travel element was one I never wanted the show to use, I'm accepting it for what it is. And the thing about it is that it's not really a "cop out" like time travel can so often be. The fact that the past is NOT alterable in any way makes it somehow easier to deal with. The only minor exception to that rule is Desmond, because Daniel was able to communicate something to him in the past which travelled with Desmond to the future, somehow. But other than that, I believe they'll stick to this idea that you can't significantly, if at all, alter the past and thereby change the present/future.
That's enough for me to accept and roll with, because the character element of the show is so much fun, and the actors consistantly do an incredible job of drawing me in to their story.

I agree with you. I feel as if i'm twisted into a pretzel myself. If only we were smart enough to remember all this stuff they keep throwing at us. I need to write all this stuff down seriously. They just keep giving us a huge bite to chew on and then before we are able to digest it we get another mouth load... and I HATE this time travel stuff!

I thought the same thing too. Early US Army issue fatigues. Circa WWI or WWII.

Brilliant idea about Locke and his legs. That would be like a time overlap, which we are also thinking may be why people hear whispers, that it may be time overlaps (like TNG) - which by the way, some of us have been guessing off and on since they first started happening - starting to look more promising, eh?
I could get really cheeky here - after all, we know Abrams likes Star Trek - he's doing the movie. So why not slip in an homage in his tv show?

Nice catch, I had completely forgotten about that!
My first impression was that they looked Dharma. I've read somewhere else on the forum that someone thoguht they could be Widmore people. First of all, would they be part of the group that was shooting flaming arrows? It kind of happened close to that anyways..
My theory about the flaming arrows is that these would be the "hostiles" before they became the others, hence, before the dharma initiative was purged by Ben. Considering the others as we know them have plenty of gun power, why would they use the sort of ancestral method of arrows?

But they had to cross the "barrier" (yet to be explained) before their brains started sloshing in season 4. Season 5, they're staying on the island, which obviously provides some protection - except for Charlotte, maybe.
I did laugh out loud though when Daniel told Desmond that he was "special" so wasn't affected by the time travel stuff - nice loophole. Although, to be fair, Desmond is special, because he's Daniel's constant. And he has a constant of his own.

Yeah, this episode definitely felt a lot more like "old school Lost". Just something about the Hurley focus in this episode. I think it had to do with things from his past haunting his present, the lie, and then him getting his little touch of redemption by telling his mom the truth.

Didn't the others start out by acting like they were primative? Couldn't this have been the very first time they saw the survivors?

I'll agree with you on the Desmond part (he & Daniel are specially unstuck in time which allows them to change the details of the past) but do we know that Ethan didn't know who Locke was? it would explain the Others reaction to him once he joined them.
All this time travel to the past also seems to explain Ben's automatic reaction of looking at the sky when 815 crashed as though he was expecting it.

Okay, here is my next question:
IF Mrs. H/jewelry lady/NOT the judge I get it now thanks IF Mrs. H is Daniel's mom, and Daniel is using Desmond to get a message to her to help him, is it possible that Mrs. H is NOT on Ben's team, but is her own agent and went to Ben because he is the only one who can fix it?
Although, how would she know where to find him if she didn't know him?
I am confused.

I still think that the arm people were Danielle's group. I think the flaming arrows were Richard's group.
Here's a question: Knowing that Widmore has been to the island before, is it possible that Danielle's group is actually connected to Widmore?
Think about it - her "science" team had military stuff and training tactics. She KNEW that Ben was lying, even though she claimed to have never crossed paths with the Others before.
Ben, Widmore, they have a long history. And I am more certain than ever that Danielle is not only tied to Ben's story, she is tied to Widmore.
How about them apples, Truff?

My episode recap over at http://lostwithbreanne.blogspot.com
All I can say is that one whole hour of shirtless Sawyer made this premiere worthwhile. Why in the world did he want a shirt so bad. Show mama what you got, baby!
Working through this chronologically-ish:
Marvin Candle/Wickman/Dr. Chang wakes up at 8:15 am- I love it when the episode starts off with easter eggs.
It's never a good sign when a drill melts. Something tells me that construction guy has a workman's comp claim. Pretty sure he's not coming back to the Orchid anytime soon.
What the hell is Faraday doing there? When did that happen in the timeline?
The flashes in time were a new interesting twist. I'm expecting all new easter eggs to help us determine what part of the past timeline we are in (cocaine plane on the cliff, burnt up plane on the ground, blown up hatch, undiscovered hatch, etc).
I really hated Ethan...not thrilled he's back. He gives me the creeps. This just makes me less excited about which other dead LOSTIES will be back- Nikki and Paulo...The Hobbit...Boone... but I'm totally okay with Eko and Rousseau coming back. We didn't get near enough of their storylines.
Widemore punk'd Sun at the airport?! Would never happen...Sun is wicked rich, she wouldn't be flying commercial.
Why does Sun want to kill Ben? Ben had nothing to do with Jin's death- that was all Widmore.
Hurley gets the MVP for this episode. Too many excellent one-liners! To Sayid: "Maybe if you ate more comfort food you wouldn't have to go around shooting people." Nice! Have a fry Sayid!
Another Hurley goodie "I need a cool code name!"
Sniper gets stabbed by dishwasher? That's a new one. I knew there was a reason you were supposed to load the dishwasher with knives pointed down, but never considered that reason.
So, if time is changing and they cannot change anything in the past, then how is Farraday contacting Desmond not changing the past? Does he mean that the future will correct itself to have the same results no matter what you do? Kind of like Desmond trying to save Charlie.
If island time keeps changing is it possible that current LOSTIES could interact with past LOSTIES if their timelines crossed? Trippy.
How often is the island time changing? Perhaps every 108 minutes? What if pressing the button really was saving the island for a while?
Why is Charlotte the only one having nosebleeds (just like Desmond did before he found his constant)? Very bad sign for her. Does everyone else have a constant?
Why isn't Richard (and the other others) experiencing the time travel like the Losties?
Locke has bad luck with his legs. Haven't they been through enough? The plane on the cliff/plane on the ground thing was trippy. I liked Richard's cameo though "What goes around comes around."
Also liked the Richard/Locke exchange about the compass "What does it do?"..."It points north."
Did you catch the compass connection? Remember when Richard visited Locke as a child and gave him several items to choose from and he was disappointed when Locke didn't pick the compass. Hmm....
How does Richard know that Locke has to die? Isn't he already dad. Is the stuff happening on the island not on the same timeline as the O6? So confused...
Sawyer had a few good one-liners too. I liked him banging on Desmond's door to get some beer and proclaiming he's "the ghost of Christmas past." Quite appropriate.
Why does Farraday say Desmond is "super special"? Because he's already travelled through time?
I'm not excited for Ana Lucia to reappear. Was that a crazy Hurley vision or is she really there? The comment about Libby was mean too. Why can't Hurley get arrested? Pretty sure that is destined to happen then. Was that the island talking to Hurley?
Hurley to passed out Sayid as he took money from his wallet "I promise to pay you back dude."
who doesn't heart Shih-tzus?
When Ben and Jack were in the hotel room, Ben got something out of the vent. What was it? Why do I feel like this whole "we have to go back" think is orchestrated by Ben...including fake dead Locke, the police who arrest Hurley, and the lawyers wanting a blood test for Aaron. All too fishy to me. I also still have a feeling he is responsible for Nadia's death too. You heard it first here folks!
Who is the client requesting the blood test anyway?
Also, Ben clearly dodged Jack's question about whether or not Locke is really dead. Nothing is ever as it seems.
Also not pleased with Nikki's audio cameo via Expose. Lame.
The whole scene between Hurley and his dad is worth replaying, but not nearly as good as when Hurley was trying to explain the whole island experience to his mom. The writers are genius!
" You killed 3 people?" "No, Sayid did." "Oh, well that's better."
Ben was #342 at the meat market- is that significant? Jill the butcher? Who is she? What does she have to do with all of this other than stashing dead bodies?
Also, Neil, the red shirt, is not technically new. After Season 4, they aired Mobil Episodes which contributed to the series and he starred in one episode. He apparently made frozen yogurt...hence, the Frogurt nickname from Sawyer.
Miles is pretty creative finding a recently dead boar. I hate his mustache so much though. Either grow a whole one or shave it off dude, no halvsies here!
Who in the heck was firing the fire arrows and threatening to cut off Juliette's hands? Others? Part of Rousseau's crew?
I would have enjoyed the Hot Pocket throwing moment more if Ben had given a Austin Powers like response "Who throws a Hot Pocket? I mean really?!"
Hurley getting arrested "However many are dead, I killed them"
What does Mrs Hawking (the watch/jewelry store lady) have to do with all of this and why does Ben only have 70 hours? What was that pendulum thing measuring? When the timelines will intersect?
Some people online are theorizing that the whispers we hear every once in a while are due to the time travel issue. It's the two times passing each other on the island.
Some are also saying that perhaps when Locke thought the island was talking to him that it was actually him talking to himself from another plane of existance on the island. um...you lost me.
Others online are predicting that Faraday's mom is Mrs. Hawking. Not sure what that theory is based on, though. Remember, Mrs. Hawking was also the judge in the island meeting to decide Juliet's punishment. Perhaps she is Jacob!
I liked the symbollism of Dr. Chang (Marvin Candle's) record player skipping over and over again...much like time on the island. Whoa...that's my big iNtuitive moment of the night.
That was A LOT to ponder in one season opener. I'm sure I missed plenty of details...Let the games begin....
Namaste!

Lost what an eye opener.............just when I thought I had it figured out.........now I have to start adding to what I know from this season.
Time travel? Is Locke really dead? Do you really want to trust Ben? Who hired the lawyers to go after Kate and Aaron? How does Mrs. Hawkings tie in to all the stuff going on? Who is Richard Alpert really and how does he connect? Do the oceanic 6 really go back and if they do how do they find the island? What is the time frame once they are off the island? We know present day is 3 years but when did Locke go and talk to them about coming back and how did Locke supposedly die? How will Walt play into this season now that Michael is dead?
Those are just some of the questions that I am throwing out there for now and I am sure there will be many more before the end of the seaon.
I am anxious to see how they are going to play this seaon out. Instead of creating so many questions they need to start answering some questions.

Forget the whole unstuck/time part... this is a Des from long ago.. and he's in the hatch all alone.. he has never met anyone from the island, from any time, except Kelvin..
Altho, he says, "do I know you?" which means he has a fleeting memory of going to see Daniel at Oxford in 1996, in The Constant...(altho he doesnt really remember that now)
And Ethan has no clue...he almost laughs when Locke mentions Ben...
I'm assuming they will have run-ins with other past ppl throughout the season... since this is only episode 1...

What if the wheel wasn't frozen when they were drilling to it? What if Faraday was there with that big canister to freeze it and make it stop spinning? My guess - pure speculation - is that Faraday has figured out that the wheel must be turned (perhaps the other way) in order to fix all this time jumping stuff. The wheel is some kind of valve that can shut off the flow of time-screwing-up-juice.

Thanks for answering me. Do you think the time shifts slowed down? Or were managed some how? How would he be in that place at that time, dressed like the other workers, to do whatever it is that he is planning?Maybe the when that Daniel gets to the wheel doesn't matter. It only matters that he does get to it, at some point, and "shuts it off."
By that logic, he could make his way down to the wheel at any time he wants, it just so happened to be when they were building the Orchid station. It's also possible that he's found a way to calculate when the jumps are occuring and the "when" that they're jumping to, and thereby has waited for the right time when the wheel would be accessible via his little infiltration. Then he goes in, shuts off the wheel, which is perhaps some kind of nexus of all time and space, and is therefore "on" in all moments in the Island's past and future. When he shuts this key valve off, it seals off the effects of the time jumping.
Again, all purely speculation, but I think it's a fairly straightforward and, relatively speaking, uncomplicated way to look at it.

So I guess Charlotte is getting a time-travel tumor because she was born on the island?I'm not sure how you're coming to that conclusion... it could just be that she's extra sensitive to the jumps or something.
Aaron's special status could cause some problems then.I don't really think he has a special status. I don't think being born on the island is the same thing as being an island native - which means you are a descendant and have the blood of an islander. Me being born in Japan wouldn't make me of Japanese descent.

Obviously it's speculation, but what else would make her extra sensitive? I don't think it's because she forgot to wear suntan lotion that day. The other two freighter folks and Juliet were nosebleed-free, as were the Oceanic survivors apparently.
