Is it really that hard to have one complete episode with Jack OR Kate in it ?
Why are TPTB so adamant on putting these two in every. single. episode ?? Jesus, I'd rather see Claire, Charlie, Sayid, etc.

Sorry Bro, but Jack, Kate, and Locke are the main characters. Expect to see them every week. Tonight their appearances seemed very contrived didn't they?

Contrived seems to be the best description.
Locke was his usual self (character) but Jack and Kate were thrown in as fluff.
Their lines were forced and lacked conviction.

Because they're the most interesting characters! Do we really want an episode about Claire?

We now have confirmation that the wedding was completed and Jack and Sara were married - at least for a little while - before something happened.
We got to see Kate upset that the bottle came back and then we got to see normally cool-headed Kate frantically search the messages. Did she find what she wanted and through slight of hand "palmed" it? ....or did she write a message to someone and it got delivered?
I think those few minutes gave us some information we didn't have before.

Kate probably figured Sawyer would nose through and read all the messages. I think the message she wrote was to him, knowing he would see it. It appeared to me she didn't want anyone else to read what she had written to Sawyer. I'm not sure if hers was gone (thus proving to herself that he did indeed get it) or if Sun saw her take one and figured it was for him.
ETA: YES it seemed contrived that her, Jackass and Lockeness were the only ones AGAIN to appear in this ep. They must have different contracts then the lowly rest of the cast (including Emmy nominee Naveen) Something that states their asses must be in every show. Cause their the heros and all......:rolleyes

I didn't think it was that contrived for Kate to find out about the bottle - think about it: who else besides Sun would care MORE than the other lostaways if the raft didn't make it. Sun because of Jin, Kate because of Sawyer. I think it gave us an important view of Kate's feelings, because up until now it seemed she was kind of split between Sawyer and Jack. This shows maybe she has more feelings for Sawyer, which helps set up the 'love triangle/square' that we'll probably see once Sawyer and Ana return - with Ana and Sawyer flirting last night, I think jealousies will flare up once Ana and Kate meet. And how Jack will fit in to all of that...that will be interesting too.

I agree with kaudrey. This was the perfect setup for the writers to create information about how Kate feels about Sawyer.
However, I don't believe she wrote anything to Sawyer in that bottle. I think what she did write was something to do with her mysterious life

Yes !! :D
(As long as it's about Claire and not Chuckie the Hobbit)

why would she be worried about sawyer reading her message when she isn't even aware he's on the island?

Maybe she would be worried that he read it when he was on the raft, which he did. He read all the messages in the bottle if you will recall.....and that would be just like him to do so.

That scene was really odd. Kate never put a message in the bottle from what we know. She just asked Charlie if Sawyer was around.

Sorry but Kate is the most annoying person on the show. I think we could totally go on a whole episode without the Jack/Kate thing. Okay yea we get it. They LIKE LIKE each other. Stop bringing it up! It fits absolutly nowhere in the the spectrum of the island. And whatever happened to Siad? Jack just left him in the hole to ogle Kate! Lol. Anyway I'm a Kate hater. To tell you the truth if the monster decided to come back on the show (whatever happened to that guy?) and ate her I wouldn't shed a tear/

I could be wrong, but it looked like Kate palmed one of the messages from the bottle.
Anyone else catch it ??

I was too busy watching her figure out what facial expression to use then Sun said, "Sawyer?" Was Kate saying "Yes" was she saying "No".....oh, silly me.....she was doing her usual.....she saying NOTHING.

More interesting than how these characters feel about each other, will be IF the writers/creators will ever give us an answers at all. I think TPTB want to keep us guessing. And so, the wishy-washy way Kate has been reacting to Jack and Sawyer, will continue. :\
