I'm new to the board so haven't caught up on all the speculation but I'd like to know if they've been pinpointed in French Polynesia. If not, where?

Yes, there is a connection to French Polynesia, albeit indirectly.
The French used that particular area as a nuclear test site for about 25 years.
Some scientists believe there has been irreparable damage to the Polynesian environment as a result of the radiation.
On the periphery of the scientific community, it has been hypothesized that the nuclear blasting has altered the vortex grid in that part of the world.


(edit): I think most of the posters on this board would probably put the Lost island west of French Polynesia.
