Forgive me if this has been discussed, but something just hit me:

I was watching the clips on Oceanicflight815.com, especially the ones where Danielle was talking about the security system and the Dark Territory...

Anyone else think that the Dark Territory is where the "central" hatch is located? When I say central hatch, I mean the place that was controlling/overseeing the operations of the island. If there is such a place, it makes sense to have a security system to keep the "test subjects" - the other people on the island - away for good.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. It would also be reasonable to assume that any of the other hatches could be responsible for all the other creepy stuff thats happening on the island.

What do we know so far? Hatch no 3 (Swan) is responsible for some kind of Electromagenic occurance/disaster, apparently if the button isn't pushed. Now fortunately (or is it fortunate?) someone has been there to push that one.

As for the new hatch? I pressume it was already derelict (maybe Ethan was in there, maybe not) so now nobodies there to stop whatever that hatch controls from being 'released'. Or Ana-Lucia could have easily killed the person in the second hatch without getting any answers first, (total opposite to Jack) so they would not be aware of the task that needs fulfilling.

So my thinking is that something TRULY catastrophic could happen if all 6 of these hatches went un-manned. My first inclination was to agree with Jack, but given the nature of the show that would just be TOO obvious especially since Jack pointed out it was just a mind Cluck (heh heh) so clearly in this episode. I also thought this whole Dharma thing could just be a 'chain letter', but who knows?!

I'm still in two minds though about whether anything really, terribly, bad WOULD happen if the button wasn't pressed. :rolleyes

To finally (yawn, I know I rabbit on) get back to the main issue:
I think it's possible the Dark Territory contains a hatch that has NOT got someone controlling it, that it possibly was the one concerning 'psychology' that would almost explain the 'illness' Danielle speaks of being caught there. She said something about after her crew got infected it being "too late they were already lost" pointing towards being lost in a 'mental' kind of way, all to do with the mind hmmmm.

reminds me o f a little conversation i had with a friend...

WHAT IF I round up all able bodied men, arm them with rifles and storm that dark territory place or at least, check the entire perimeter of the island.

But oh yeah, in real life, being on an island, an experience of the primordial and all, will constantly remind you of how how we are finite beings and while it would seem heroic, it would also seem stupid. just a thought.

hey, but i can run pretty fast!

*don't mind me, im just a rock

It was said in the most recent episode that "The Others" are located "inland", at least inland in relation to the tail-section survivors.

They might be the ones inhabiting the Dark Territory.

She said something about after her crew got infected it being "too late they were already lost" pointing towards being lost in a 'mental' kind of way, all to do with the mind hmmmm.

She also made referrence to killing them so whatever they had couldn't be spread to the rest of the world. (if they were rescued) That makes me think no to a mental illness. So could it be one of the deadlys that we already know of (ex: smallpox) or something entirely new that Dharma made up?

What exactly was the point of having the tailfeathers living in a barren hatch? We didn't discover anything exciting in it (like the first hatch) and they quickly abandoned it this week without showing us anything about it. It had a different logo.... whipeee. More wasted airtime and still no answers.:rolleyes

Hey I also had another thought. If the rumours of Kelvin being the guy on the boat that took Walt turn out to be true, that could also mean the 'Others' are possibly all "Hatch deserters".

Therefore they would know far more about what was going on and what things to look out for (Walt) to find a solution to their problems (as I remember it the jungle whispers said something about the plane people maybe being able to help them).

The hatch/research area the tailsection survivors were staying in was probably abandonded way before the "Swan" hatch. It was probably an easy target for "The Others" as well. We know there are probably six hatches/research stations on the island. We've now seen two. I still think the central one is in the Dark Territory, being guarded by the security system and being patrolled by "The Others".

Putting together a theory here:

All of the hatches/research areas on the island, except the "Swan", are probably barren and empty. Dharma probably kept the Swan hatch stocked to either make sure the people inside kept pushing the button(if something bad were to happen), or to further the experiment - dealing with how groups of people react in extreme circumstances. You would have one group of people(The main survivors or anyone who happened to stumble upon the Swan hatch), who would have it relatively easy. You then have another group of people(the tail section survivors), who stumble upon shelter but nothing is inside, thus making their survival that much harder. Throw in the mix a wild card group - "The Others" - designed to test both groups to the extreme.

Or... "The Others" could have been the people running the experiment/hatches/who knows...
