Quick theory: Ben didn't plan on killing Locke at first... but changes his mind when he finds out that Widmore knows about Hawking, because he thinks he's the only one that knows about her.... little does Ben know that Widmore and Hawking have been working together this whole time and are really working Ben! (at least I hope so)

I am soooo confused now. I have followed this show from the beginning and I just can't figure out the bad guys / good guys. What if Ben just killed Locke b/c he knew he had to to "save" the island? He knew Locke would be resurrected... Jacob told him to...I don't know! Please somebody break this all down for me.

I think Jacob is done talking to Ben (Hence Ben shooting Locke and feeling threatened since his position on the island has now been taken over by John). Only Richard knew Locke had to die to fix everything.

It just turned out that we got a lot more of Ben's side of the story than we did Widmore's...so we took it at face value. Christian's "when did listening to him (Ben) ever get us anywhere" should have been confirmation that Ben is on the wrong side.
