View Full Version : Opera 9.64 issues (or not?)

I don’t know if it’s to do with Opera or my machine, but I can't find anything via google and there's no one online or at home to ask at the moment, so why not try here.

When I updated from 9.63, only some of my bookmarks and settings copied over, which was annoying but workable. Then when opening a new window (ie from an IM link), it would open in another window altogether (as opposed to a new tab), and as the previous Opera version. Now I just downloaded the latest Windows Updates and I restarted, but I cannot find the new version anywhere-it’s installed, repaired, but no matter where I open it from it uses 9.63. How is that even there if it was overwritten anyway? Oh, and on program properties, the part where you can see/use previous versions, it has 9.63 as a previous version from the 9th, yet opens that as the current version.

Halp plz. :D

Reinstalled again and that seems to have worked this time in that it's loading only the new version now when clicking shortcuts and such, but still not for IM links.

And then there's the issue of the random periods where it refuses to load anything at all for up to a few hours..

Opera just crashed, then when loaded again, the same problem as in the OP occured. It had to be reinstalled to work properly again. I don't get why it does this

Have you tried restoring your PC to before Opera went haywire? Sometimes the re-installing messes with registry items. Try restore and if working create a restore point before you update to new version. If newer version gives you fits you can always restore to the point you created prior to the update. :)

I don't have/use restore points '^^ and since the problems are already in place, I can't really create one now. I still keep having to reinstall everytime I crash or restart, otherwise it reverts back to the previous version. Not seen anything online yet about the same problem either.. hm.

Windows creates a restore point nightly. Well my PC does. You could go back to one before the problem started however you would lose other settings that you may have put in place after the problem started. If you do a system restore say to 2 weeks ago and it doesn't help you can always undo the restore.

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.

Click System Restore Settings on the left side of the page. If the tick box to turn off system restore is not checked then Windows creates a restore point daily I believe. On the right side you see 3 options: Restore, Create, Undo.

See if this helps you in any way. The system settings will be restored yet your data will be kept. Registry will go back to whatever date you pick. Somtimes software I installed is wiped but I keep a copy of all software I install in a folder I call DownloadApps.

Hope this helps you. :)

That's what I mean, I turn the points off so it doesn't make them at all, so there's nothing to go back to right now. There's that thing (I think it is vista only?) where it automatically saves previous versions of software when you update it. It has there 9.63 as the prior version and not the current, so not sure how/why it keeps rolling back or if there is an option somehow missed to stop it.

Thanks though :)

Sorry Houkou I misunderstood you. You are a brave soul to have them turned off. :worthy:

XD it's what messed up the last laptop so bad, more than once.. and I no longer have anything on here that can't be replaced straight from disks again, although it would be a lot of hassle. ;)
