Sorry if I may be posting something that's already been discussed...

Here's why Danielle's story is truly hard to believe:

Put yourself in her shoes. If Sayid is the first person you've seen in 16 years, and he just told you that there are others on the island, wouldn't you be somewhat excited to know that a) there's company for your lonely self and b) they may have a plan to be rescued (did she even ask?). I agree with the general concensus on this board that she's bogus somehow, but we must remember the show is very much about human nature and emotions of each character, and this woman doesn't fit into the mix.

She's crazy, but how crazy is she? Sayid even discovered at the very end of the episode that the "voices" she talked about are in fact real, though that could be nothing more than loud speakers...

So that brings me to my speculation: Sayid will return to that place (possibly with Jack or someone else on the island) and there will be no traces of her.

Believing this could be true, Jack will return to the place where the pilot was tossed into the tree and discover no trace of his body either... I'm beliving more and more that this is staged... and whatever group is staging it is really sick...

I am not so sure how excited she would be to see people considering she killed the last few she did see...

I can't stop wondering why Danielle, who considered her fellow scientists such a threat 16 years ago that she had to kill them, doesn't also think she has to kill the newcomers. She does warn Sayid about his comrades, saying he should watch them closely, so she does think they could be(come) a threat. Then why not kill all of them again? What's different this time?

If you believe her story, her companions were "already lost." The sickness had gotten them. She had obviously decided that it hadn't gotten Sayid yet, and I'd assume she thought it hadn't gotten her either... so there was still hope for those who weren't yet infected. I doubt she considers herself a murderer, so she wouldn't be likely to kill those who weren't already, in her eyes, Lost.

No I wouldnt be excited to see new people. I spent the past 16 yrs convincing myself there were evil people out there in the jungle and that People hated me so thats why they wouldnt come looking for me. Seeing a person would be the last thing on my mind. As for the sickness she said they were their for 2 mths when the sickness got them...Lonliness, stress, worry, fear...all of that can drive peopel insane some sooner than others. Maybe Danielle was pregnant with Alex at the time of her crash and the island likes to do things to pregnant women...lol Who knows.
