If you're a Linux geek like me, then you know today's the day.
Ubuntu 9.04 (http://www.ubuntu.com/) (Jaunty Jackalope (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JauntyJackalope)) has been released.

I'm updating right now, but since there are thousands doing the same, the repositories are slammed, and it will take hours. Like, nine of them, lol. Maybe I should just do a clean install from the ISO (that I already have:D).

If interested, you can get the ISOs here (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download). If the download is slow, try a different mirror.

Here are the torrents:

32 bit desktop (http://releases.ubuntu.com/jaunty/ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso.torrent)
64 bit desktop (http://releases.ubuntu.com/jaunty/ubuntu-9.04-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent)

32 bit server (http://releases.ubuntu.com/jaunty/ubuntu-9.04-server-i386.iso.torrent)
64 bit server (http://releases.ubuntu.com/jaunty/ubuntu-9.04-server-amd64.iso.torrent)

I fired off a torrent download and an FTP download simultaneously, and the FTP finished in 40 minutes from a local mirror, while the torrent was stillshowing around 2.5 hours to go. That climbed, and now it's looking like 6 hours. Do yourself a favor, and find an FTP server.

I found a slick disk label. Here's a smaller sample (p-bucket is resizing because they suck). If you want the full size image, let me know.

Here are some random screenshots that I found around the web.

Oh crap, I'll be on the lookout tomorrow for harassment from a certain someone to try it. :) Maybe this will be enough incentive to finally do so.. after the initial waves of downloads.

FTP downloads are pretty quick. I was done in 40 minutes.

I don't know what all of this is, but it seems extremely hawt & sexy. As far as computers go anyway.

I can try, but I'm getting speeds of 20 kb/s average at the moment, might take a while. :) Lets see..

Edit: Huh, 30 kb/s at the moment. And about 5hrs 45 to download.

For those who may be upgrading:

Upgrading (easily) is possible from Ubuntu 8.10, Intrepid Ibex. Since the repositories are completely slammed, it's much faster to download the Alternate Installer ISO and use that for the upgrade.

Torrents:
32 bit alternate (http://releases.ubuntu.com/9.04/ubuntu-9.04-alternate-i386.iso.torrent)
64 bit alternate (http://releases.ubuntu.com/9.04/ubuntu-9.04-alternate-amd64.iso.torrent)

You can find a fill list of FTP mirrors at the bottom of this page (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors#alternate).

To upgrade your Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex to Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope using the Alternate Installer option (that's what I'm going to use), follow the instructions below, stolen from here (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading).

Upgrading Using the Alternate CD/DVD

Use this method if the system being upgraded is not connected to the Internet (or in this case, the repositories are too damned slammed).

Download the alternate installation CD
Burn the ISO to a CD (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto#InUbuntu) and insert it into the CD-ROM drive of the computer to be upgraded.

If the ISO file is on the computer to be upgraded, you could avoid wasting a CD by mounting the ISO as a drive (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ManageDiscImages#MountISOFiles) with a command like:
sudo mount -o loop ~/Desktop/ubuntu-9.04-alternate-i386.iso /media/cdrom0

A dialog will be displayed offering you the opportunity to upgrade using that CD.
Follow the on-screen instructions.

If the upgrade dialog is not displayed for any reason, you may also run the following command using Alt+F2:
gksu "sh /cdrom/cdromupgrade"
Or in Kubuntu run the following command using Alt+F2:
kdesudo "sh /cdrom/cdromupgrade"
