Hi, I want to get an ipod (yes, shock, I've never had one:)), and I see some people talk about getting LOST eps from itunes and watching at the gym or something? Or am I completely off my rocker? :what: Anywho, what ipod would be good and what ones are useless? (I want music too, of course, "old timey" stuff, you betcha!). Any advice? I find the itunes website total crap for getting information.
:thankyous

From what I understand, you basically have three options:
- iPod nano - These are the little tiny ones. About the size of a credit card, but a little thicker. More often than not, these are the ones you see people at the gym with. Not sure of the exact specs, but you end up not sacrificing too much in screen size or functionality with the size. You do, however, sacrifice amount of memory, and of course pay more.
- iPod Classic This is the "traditional" option. A "basic" iPod. The most bang for your buck. About the size of a regular cell phone, I believe they ALL currently play music AND video (you can also view pictures). Mine doesn't play video, but mine is old. The biggest decision here is how much memory you want. I believe there are degrees ranging from about 4G to 320G. If I were to buy a new one, it'd be a Classic.
- iTouch The lamborghini of the iPod line. Features a big touch-screen. Again, you will pay for it and probably end up sacrificing some memory for features. However, the best thing about the iTouch is not the touch-screen, but the "apps" that can be installed through the iStore. I believe some are free, and some cost a couple bucks. But these are what the people go wild over (see the "favorite iPhone (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54798) apps" thread). All iPhone apps can be used with the iTouch. The iTouch also has WiFi cabability, so has access to the internet.
And here I thought I was golden finding a 1G mp3 player that clips on my blouse collar and is the size of my thumb. No screen included. LOL
Umm and if u actually want to watch episodes I would suggest the Touch since that is the only screen that it is even feasible to watch something imo.
I do have a Nano, iphone, classic...i guess u can watch stuff on the classic but it is a little small for my liking
I can watch things with subtitles on my 4th gen nano.. but a classic would be better.

Thanks guys, any advice about what to watch out for? I was looking at some of the threads where people had trouble with stuff. What's a good starter set up?

The only thing I would recommend right off the bat is to try and decide if you're going to be able to get used to the ear "buds". (Maybe borrow a friend's for a day?) I'm not sure exactly what "use" you're planning on, but if you're doing anything where the main activity is going to be listening to music (i.e. not working out or something else where the music will just be the background) I would recommend headphones. Now, that could be just me, but I never could get used to the buds.
The other thing that a lot of people enjoy are the speakers that can be purchased separately. They actually have pretty good sound, and are good for setting up at parties and putting your music on rotation. But any decent pair are going to be at least a little pricey. I forget if they're called "speakers" or "docking" stations these days, but there'll be a section of them from wherever you get your iPod.
It's well worth the money to get an extended warranty too, definately.

I would go with the classic, which is what I have. Screen is plenty big enough for me.
With Tivo to Go you can put stuff from your Tivo on your ipod. Awesome.

Thanks everyone, looks like the classic is the front runner. Shopping this weekend! :D
Definitely look at replacing the earbuds. The sound quality is terrible.
My daughter has a Nano, and it has as much memory as my iPhone. There are plenty of options when it comes to memory so format should be more of a concern.
The Touch is available with more memory than the other models, and would be worth the extra funds, if you have them. It's a much more functional device, and with a screen that large, you can actually see details in movies and whatnot.

I ditched the ear buds right away. Could be used as a torture device in my opinion. I got some expensive little Bose earpieces that go in the ear. Love them.
I have an type of Ipod nano they don't even make any more and I love it. Wah. Hope I don't have to replace it soon.
I love itouch. I bought my nephew one for Christmas last year, and then I didn't get to spend any time with him after that. LOL! It was easy enough to read posts here, but not so easy to post, although it could have been a user error. (me) The color ratio and product design overall is very impressive and user friendly, the larger buttons make it easy to use and read. I amost bought one for myself, and the price was right under $200 loaded and ready to go.

I went and looked at them again-- at the store where the help are eejits lol. Thinking now of getting the itouch, but keep thinking I'll end up with a nano too just for tunes, so shouldn't I just get a classic?! Hopeless, I am. :hammerselGoing ennie-meenie soon. Thanks for the advice, I'll get better ear thingies deffo.

What's that called VS? What's so great about it? tell me tell me!:blinkie:
I just use my phone for my mp3 needs, but I'm seriously considering buying an ipod one of these days.
I think I'll go with the nano, I don't foresee myself trying to watch any type of videos or movies on the thing.

It's called the Sony Walkman - catchy huh?! ;)
One thing that's good bout it is that it works.
I've had like 3 MP3 players before it (including an Ipod).
They all stopped working for sum reason er other.
