Anyone else dislike Kate??

She's the character I like least... She's really arrogant and her "story" tired immediately... I hope she's the one that goes cause she's really boring, and "politically correct". She didn't care that one girl needed her asthma inhaler and Sawyer had it, so that says a lot about her character.

BTW I knew Charlie wouldn't be dead in the last aired ep... Why would they write him out of the show? Claire maybe but not Charlie.

I don't think Jack will die either. They need him for a lot of the show apparently. Too bad there's another break til January or so.

Kate is alright. I found out in the Jimmy Kimmel show that she’s a fellow PC gamer or “gamer chic” as they call themselves. That’s someone who plays video games or computer games like Half Life 2, Rome Total War, Doom3, etc. The people I don’t like are those 90210 twins. I like to whack them upside the head with a coconut or something like that.

Why is "you guys are just jealous" considered a valid reply on the internet? It IS possible to dislike someone without being jealous of them for being attractive.

I find Kate's character boring - which is why I don't like her. She doesn't seem to add anything to the show. The whole "mystery" about her being a prisoner held my attention for about 30 seconds before I realized that it just wasn't interesting. I really hope that eventually we find out she killed Walt's mom, or something, which would make her interesting again.

Yes, the actress who plays her is pretty. But that doesn't mean I have to like the character.

I really just loved Kate at the beginning of the show. However, the more episodes I see, the more out of character she seems to be. She doesn't seem like the kick-@ss girl she was at the start of the show. :(

The audience simply can't know her. She has fallen into a follower, but it's implied that she can do a whole lot more than what she is doing. I want to know *why* she is pretending to be so boring and plain, when it is obvious that there is something more to her.

I think the only thing wrong with Kate is that she has very little acting experience. She'll either get better at it or she won't, but either way, she'll still be nice to look at!

Oh, and the reason she doesn't have mud on her face - she's right next to the largest body of WATER on the planet. She can wash it off very easily.

I have to agree with some of the other posters. I just can't put my finger on it, but I just don't like Kate. Kate is most certainly *not* the focal point of the series, like Jennifer Garner's character Sydney is in "Alias." This is an ensemble show. Every character provides another piece to the puzzle.

As far as Evey's acting *skills* go, she should watch Terry O'Quinn and Dominic Monaghan. They're terrific in every scene either one of them is in. She's still got a ways to go.

Maybe because I'm female but I really don't think she's that attractive. In one interview, Evey described herself as "reasonably okay looking," and that is exactly how I would describe her. I've certainly seen prettier models and actresses.

Perhaps you can go ahead and post a picture of yourself, so we can all have a chance to offer our personal opinion on your physical appearance. If you have an opinion about the quality of the writing for Kate’s character, or the quality of Evangeline’s acting ability, I think you are very much entitled to that opinion. I do, however, fail to understand your judgment of Evangeline’s “attractiveness”. What is your point? Do you feel like they did not hire a “hot enough” actress for the role? Is she not up to your standards? Who cares? How does this have any bearing on the show? So what if she thinks she’s “reasonably ok looking”, and you just happen to agree with her? Your comments seem mean spirited and a little jealous. I’m not sure how your third paragraph is relevant to this thread or to anything at all. You are obviously entitled to your opinion on her looks, we all think differently about others physical appearances, but maybe make sure your opinion has a “point” when you decide to share it.

I certainly don't have a problem with the actress, regarding her talent or her looks..she is blessed in both departments. :D

The problem is her character is a bit enigmatic. We don't know too much about Kate and so it is hard to decide if we should like her or not.

I think she is meant to be written as a heroine, but the writers have to give us alittle more of her backstory so we can understand why she is so emotionally withdrawn, restrained, etc....

It's hard to like a character if we feel they are abit too guarded about letting other people know who they really are.... :\

I think comments on Evangeline's looks have no relativity to the topic at hand. On the contrary to everyone, I think Kate's character is very intriguing. The reason for why she appears so guarded may be a reflection of what happened in her past. Maybe she has trust issues because she was betrayed by someone she loved. So far this is the first season. The backstory of other characters are still being told and every character has an importance to the show. They just don't have the time to get to her yet. I think it is only fair to judge once there is a bit of longevity to the show. The writers and producers are so surprised that Lost is such a huge hit that they're scurrying to film in more episodes. Evangeline is a new actress. Give her a break.

Hmmm I think she is absolutely gorgeous and I am a female..... a straight, man loving female. She has a classic beauty, one of those "don't need to wear make up" to be pretty girls.

As for her character, I have not made up my mind about that yet. I need to know exactly what she did before I decide, however I tend to WANT to like her.

As for her acting, I think she is great. Did you see the scenes where she was not sure what to do when Jack was trying to get Cahrlie to breathe. There are a lot of actresses out there that have been doing it for years and get paid millions that can't do that range of emotion.

KMS, I'm going to agree with you 100%, she is exquisite! Although I do like my women a little larger than Evangeline.

And don't get me started on her acting. The scene when she realizes Jack is no longer trapped in the cave. You see the actual feelings she has for our doctor. It was really touching. And the scene you mentioned, the emotions she uncovers when she thought Charlie was dead. Hey, that was good enough for an Emmy in my book.

My opinion is certainly not law, but I do have the right to express it. It is simply just that: an opinion. JJ Abrams went on record in an interview stating that he hired Evangeline because she had a "goofy" quality to her, and not just because of her looks. This is from the more recent TV Guide article from a week or so ago.

And check again before you criticize me or anyone else, Pritchard: this ENTIRE thread is devoted to people who don't like Kate. Did you not get that when you read the thread title? This is not an "I Love Kate" thread. Understand?

Touchy, touchy. Although I've noticed that there are people who will defend actor X no matter what because in some insane fantasy of theirs they think that someday, somehow, they might actually get to sleep with that actor...and there are others who slam actor X because said actor is better looking than they will ever be, no matter how much plastic surgery they eventually end up purchasing.

Evangeline is absolutely gorgeous, and getting better with each episode (lots of time in gym, obviously). As someone mentioned she's the sort of person who can jump out of bed, put on sweats and a ratty old t-shirt and still outshine every woman in the room no matter where she goes. She's the sort of woman that other women love to hate because of that very fact: even at her worst she makes all the other ladies look second-rate by comparison.

As for Evangeline's acting ability...I don't know what sort of crack some of you have been smoking, but her acting ability is first-rate. She's very, very good at what she does; certainly a hell of a lot better than some of the other folks on the show. She also has a wider range than many of the other actors (e.g., Michael Fox, whom I like but he's *still* doing his "Party of Five" shtick). The only actor who's clearly better than Evangeline is Terry O'Quinn, and Terry is better than EVERYBODY else so that's hardly a surprise.
