View Full Version : Who's where?

(if this should go in General Discussion instead of theories, my apologies)
So we're pretty sure that the survivors split into two camps, and we think that one is near the fresh water and one is at the beach. Now pinnerman's got me thinking about a "scientific" group and a "spiritual" group. My money is on the "spiritual" group going inland. So this is how I think they'll divide up:
Fresh water - Jack (has 'seen' his father and been the recipient of a suprise rescue by Locke); Locke (has "looked into the eye of the island - and it's beautiful"); Kate (has escaped a lot of trouble and trusts Jack); Claire (she's going where Doc Shepherd is going); Charlie (he's going where Claire's going ;) , and if the promos are any indication, Locke shares some of his healing with Charlie).
Beach - Sawyer (he's a pragmatist, and he wants to be alpha dog somewhere without having to fight Jack for it), Sayed (definitely science-prone), Shannon (wants to be rescued really badly), Boone (protecting his sister), Sun and Jin (don't trust anybody and don't want to be trapped in the jungle).
I'm conflicted about where to put Michael and Walt (and Vincent), Hurley, and Rose. My instinct says that Hurley stays on the beach (afraid of things that go bump in the night) and that the others go inland.
Any other theories?

If they split, I think you're pretty close. But I think it's too early for a split in the group and, when it does happen, it doesn't necessarily have to be physical. Personally - I think the entire core group is going to head inland.
Jack, Kate and Locke are a given to stick together. Claire, although this little trek is going to be difficult, will almost have to go with Jack. Charlie will absolutely follow her.
I see Hurley going with Charlie and Jack. He's latched on to both of them - Charlie for companionship; Jack as an "assistant".
I see Sawyer going inland as well. I don't think he really wants to be top dog. As a matter of fact, I suspect he has been somewhere along the way and it's backfired in his face. I think he'll figure Jack needs him just to keep on the practical side of things. Besides - I think he's just curious enough to want to have a little adventure. He'd be jealous if Jack had all the fun. He'll probably protest - saying it's the worst idea he's ever heard - but he'll go, complaining the whole way.
I see Sayid wanting to stay on the beach for possible rescue, but he also needs to find the power source because his possibility of rescue might increase. There have to be trips to the interior for that. And at this point, do you think he wants Kate alone with Jack, or worse yet, Sawyer?
I can see Michael and Walt thinking to stay on the beach primarily because Michael will see it as "safer" for Walt and also if Sun and Jin stay there, he'll want to be near Sun. But I think Sun will put her foot down and announce she's going with them. If that's the case, it could be part of the argument that appears to be brewing in the previews. And if she gets her way, then the other three will follow (along with Vincent).
I can see Rose staying on the beach only because she may not be capable of making a decision. But I think Jack will convince her to come.
Shannon will want to stay on the beach, but Boone won't. He already sees himself as Jack's second and he'll want to be with him. Shannon will never stay there without her brother. As much as they fight, they've a bond between them.
So I think they'll end up staying together, possibly picking up a few of the red shirts as well. The rest can fend for themselves.

Sorry, proteus! I did miss that thread. You have some very well thought out reasons for where everyone might go.
JacksGirl - I hadn't really thought of the possibility that it wouldn't be a physical separation. Interesting angle.

I just don't see them splitting the cast before they've even bonded as a cohesive group. If they split at all, it will be later when they discover another group already settled. Some might want to stay (and perhaps lose their status as a regular - only having guest appearances, or disappearing altogether); some will always want to move - thinking something better is over the horizon (I think this is what Jack's group will do).
I could be way off base here but I see them going from one tiny settlement to another, picking up and disgarding people along the way. I think alot of who they leave behind and drag along might be determined by the audience appeal of the individual characters.
But I think at the end of the season, our core group will be together (probably minus a couple). Despite Jack and Sawyer's obvious differences, I think they have some similarities too, but it's doubtful these two men would get along well under even normal circumstances. But I still don't think the producers are going to risk losing their audience by separating them. There's too much drama between them and each has its core group of fans (some of us like both).
So I see division, but not yet, and perhaps not the way every else sees it. I see sides taken, but for the most part, I see most of our lost ones on the side of the light.
