Warning: This entry contains spoilers about season three of True Blood which some fans may wish to avoid!

Over the next three days we'll be cosying up to the cast of True Blood in a bid to find out what we can about season three show them how much we love the twisted vampire drama. First up for a bit of TLC is Bon Temps' resident shapeshifter Sam Merlotte. Season two ended with Sam desperately trying to figure out who he was and heading off to look for his real family. Will such a search finally lead to some well-deserved happiness for the tragedy-ridden bar owner? Will he ever be able to trust again after the Daphne fandango? And how does actor Sam Trammell cope with all those naked scenes? Read on to find out!

Where does Sam's story take him in season three?
"I imagine - and I'm pretty sure - he's going to try to find his real biological parents. He's probably had a desire to see them, unconsciously, for a while, then there was that whole episode where he was with the kids and he realised that one of the kids - Cody - had never actually seen his father. That was the catalyst so that's what Sam's going to do, he's going to go try to find his actual biological parents who he's never met and that is going to be trouble. Alan Ball is going to torture me again!"

Any chance of him finding love after Daphne?
"That would be so tough. I think he'll always carry a torch for Sookie even though at this point he's kind of given up on her. He would still protect her and be concerned about her but he's given up on her although I'm sure that will resurface at some point depending on how many years we do the show! The Daphne thing where he finally met someone he didn't have to hide who he was from and could really be who he was with - that was very special and for her to just betray him the way she did? That was the biggest kind of betrayal, where you're just trying to lure someone into killing them. It's going to take a bit for him to recover."

Alan Ball said werewolves are going to be introduced this season. How will that affect Bon Temps?
"I'm not sure - I did read the books but I'm not exactly sure how the werewolves are going to be put into the show. I do know the werewolves are disgusting creatures. They're dirty, they're not shapeshifters - they're disgusting, low-level, smelly creatures. Perfect for Sam!"

I've heard there's going to be a big death in the third season. Any ideas who that might be?
"I've heard that too and I don't really know what that's about at all actually."

Who would you like it to be?
"Oh boy - there's no political answer there, is there? I just don't want it to be me! Anybody but me, I'll say that."

Have you got any theories on who took Bill?
"I think I might know who took Bill so I can't answer that - I don't want to spoil it."

There's also a heck of a lot of nakedness what with all the shapeshifting. How do you feel about filming that kind of stuff?
"It's not too bad. I have a little bit of experience with it - I did a bit of nudity on the stage in New York. The only thing is it gets more difficult as you get older because it's just harder to keep your body in shape. If you're naked inside in a bedroom it's really cool but when you do it outside and it's not a sex scene, you just take off your clothes - it's hard to close the set so everybody can see you and the crew is just not impressed at that point!"

Will Evan Rachel Wood's character ever get her comeuppance for selling all the V?
"I'm sure there's going to be some sort of disaster with her - most things end in disaster on our show so there'll probably be some kind of comeuppance with that!"

How do you see the Bill-Sookie-Eric love triangle continuing?
"Gosh - that's so interesting! I have no idea how they'll go with that because they're kind of doing things a little differently than the books. Obviously we jump off from the books and go our own directions. Eric's just such a strong presence but she's so connected to Bill - like even more connected to him than in the books - that I don't see Bill going anywhere. But Eric's going to have a little more power with her and I bet you their romance is going to grow, probably this next season. I think their romance is going to grow and yet she's going to have that ring on her finger. I don't know - it's pretty screwed up!"

Do you think a wedding between Bill and Sookie this series is plausible?
"Oh jeez - I'd say there was a chance - sure! That kind of thing would probably be drug out so I don't know if I would see that this season but some sort of wedding? Sure - I could see that."

Where would you like to see Sam end up at the end of season three?
"I would say I've always got some good cliffhangers. I had a really good one the first season with the connection to Maryanne and the money, and this past year with my parents - I enjoy being in trouble. I enjoy the conflict. In a way Sam's the sensible eye in the crazy storm of the show. Any kind of bad situation I could be in - I like the bad situations."

You want to see Sam in more trouble?
"Yes - Sam in more trouble - more abuse for Sam, that's what I wish for!"

True Blood returns for its third season next year in the US. The second season begins January on FX in the UK.

I think this is a big load of caca, it's not in the books and Sam has never been prone to any vamp on the show or in the books since he is a true shifter but I found it on Ausiello-
Sam To Get Frisky w/Bill!
If you’re one of the (many) True Blood viewers who suspected there might be fallout from Bill “donating” blood to save Sam’s life in the finale last September, go ahead and give yourself a gold star. The show’s boss, Alan Ball, tells me that in season 3, the hunks will forge “not just any connection, an erotic connection.”

How erotic? Ball wouldn’t say. But at least he was more forthcoming with regard to another upcoming same-sex couple-to-be: Lafayette and his new love interest Jesus (played by Southland’s Kevin Alejandro). Bon Temps’ resident V peddler “is very guarded, and Jesus is a guy who is willing to knock down some of those guards,” he says. “[Though] it’s not an easy relationship, they have a lot in common. They’re both shamans of sorts, healers, so there’s a reason they get brought together.

“But,” he emphasizes again, “it’s not going to be easy.”

So, thoughts on a Bill/Sam flirtation? Too far-out or not far enough? And do you even care, so long as the subplot leaves Sookie free to explore her attraction to Eric?

Golden Globes Red Carpet: 'True Blood' Star Sam Trammell Hints At More Shapeshifters In Bon Temps

There's much in store for Bon Temps' shapeshifting barkeep Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) in the upcoming season of HBO's "True Blood." In addition to an "erotic connection" growing between Sam and Sookie's vampire boyfriend Bill (Stephen Moyer), the adopted son will find his birth parents and perhaps have some of those lingering questions about his origin answered. When we caught up with Sam on the Golden Globes red carpet, he answered some of our burning questions, including what we can expect next season.

"Well, my character is going to find his biological parents, which is definitely going to end up in some bad stuff for me," Sam revealed. "They're very sketchy. Sort of, uh... I'll just say, trailer trash. That's what I come from, so I can just say that."

Sam will also have to contend with several new creatures haunting the Louisiana town. "There's a werewolf, another vampire. I think there's another shapeshifter or two in there," he said. We already knew Sam's mom played by J. Smith-Cameron would be a shapeshifter like her son, so who is the second one he is referring to? If creator Alan Ball is going by the books on that storyline, we're betting we know who she is!

Fans won't have to wait long for the action to heat up, either. Sam promised some jaw-dropping moments in the very first episode. "There's going to be some shocking stuff. I can promise you in the first episode there's going to be a shocking scene."

The real question is: Does this scene trump a vision of a nearly-naked Alexander Skarsgård, which Alan has already promised to us? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Golden Globes Red Carpet: 'True Blood' Star Ryan Kwanten Is Ready For Love In Season 3
Posted 1/20/10 11:54 am ET by Amy Wilkinson in TV News, Videos

"True Blood" may have left the Golden Globes empty handed, but MTV News didn't leave the ceremony without its fill of the seductive vampire series. An umbrella-weilding Josh Horowitz caught up with actor Ryan Kwanten, who you may know as Sookie Stackhouse's buff brother Jason, to ask what we should expect from season 3. And, unsurprisingly, the Aussie played a bit coy.

"[Expect] the unexpected," he replied. "I think that's what we've become sort of famous for. In terms of predictability, it's really impossible, even though it's based on a series of books. Alan Ball tends to put his own spin on things. It's no different again this season. Every script that comes out never ceases to amaze me."

Ryan, however, wasn't so tight-lipped when it came to the future of his character Jason. "This season, Jason finds himself in the throes of love, which is a pretty uncommon place for him."

We couldn't have said it better, ourselves, Ryan. Jason's had a slew of seriously unsuccessful relationships, from V addict Amy (Lizzy Caplan) to preacher's wife Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp). With Jason's new sweetheart Crystal (Lindsay Pulsipher) gaining series regular status, it seems the perpetual playboy may be entering the city limits of Commitmentville. Hopefully, it will not negatively affect his shirted-to-shirtless ratio for the season.

Sam Trammell – 'Sam Merlotte' in True Blood
Do you know that True Blood fans are probably the most fanatical people on the internet?
Sam Trammell: "It doesn't surprise me. I would expect that."

Do you pay attention to that at all?

Sam Trammell: "You know what? To a certain extent I do. I mean I don't get too detail-oriented and get too… But, you know, I'm aware that there are a lot of great supporters out there and so appreciate it."

What about all the buzz over the fact you're supposed to be having some sort of sexy scene with Bill? What's up with that?

Sam Trammell: "I know. The cat is out of the bag. I can't say anything more than that. I don't want to say because people don't want to know. You don't want to know. You want to be surprised. But there is something that people will be talking about – for sure."

Do you get deeper into Sam this year?

Sam Trammell: "Yeah, a lot. My biological family is a big part of my storyline and so we get really deep. There's some flashbacks to some of my past and sort of how I was able to stay afloat as a teenager on the streets, and some of the things I had to do. We really get deep. We really get deep. It's really good."

Some of the things you had to do? Were you a bad guy?

Sam Trammell: "I haven't read those scripts yet. Those are actually coming later in the season. I don't know. I just know there's going to be some flashbacks."

Can you offer suggestions?

Sam Trammell: "I'm always pitching stuff."

Do they take your ideas?

Sam Trammell: "No. Well, I'm kidding. I mean, you know, Alan [Ball's] stuff is always better than my pitches anyway, so… I'm kidding. I've pitched a couple of things. Actually, I think I pitched my biological family, but that's an obvious one. They probably were going to do that anyway."

So fans can expect this season to be even better than season two?

Sam Trammell: "I think so, yeah."

Why?

Sam Trammell: "Because it's our third season and everybody's kind of in the grove right now. Like the first season was figuring out what the show was. The second was building it. And now we have a big year again and we know what to do with it. I mean it's great. I mean it's really good. It's seriously good."

How many years do you want to do this?

Sam Trammell: "I could do this for a long time."

Could you?

Sam Trammell: "Yeah, it's fun."

Sam's a good guy to play.
