View Full Version : something up with Michael & Walt?
Does anyone else get the feeling that there's something up with Michael & Walt? It seems like the mother dying thing is a cover story. When Locke says "you've had a bad month", all Walt says is "I guess". Seems like he'd be more upset than that and he doesn't seem distressed at all.
Also, I'd think that if Michael hadn't been in Walt's life at all, when the mom died, Walt would have gone with a family member of the mom's.

I think the father would have "first rights" over a child unless there had been a major problem. Plus I have the feeling that Michael wasn't in Walt's life because the mother fled with Walt, not because Michael didn't want him. I'm guessing Michael's been looking for him for a long time.

Legally, the father would have custody rights, but usually if a father is totally out of a child's life, I'd think the child would be with other family (i.e. whoever took care of him between the time of her death and when Michael got there). Of course, most of the cases I'm thinking of where the dad is totally out of a child's life it's because the dad split or is denying paternity and the mom probably doesn't know where he is.
I didn't get that feeling that Michael had been looking for him, but maybe I missed something. I got the feeling that he wasn't interested and this had been thrust upon him.

When Locke told Walt that he had no accent, Walt noted that he and his mother moved around a lot....
Wonder what the reason for that could be? ;)
Ok - I guess I didn't make that connection. :)
I still think it's weird that Walt doesn't seem very upset by his mother's death or the stranded-on-a-deserted-island thing.

I think Walt is a very well adjusted child. He's moved around alot and his mother (even if she stole him) was probably a very good mother. He seems able to roll with the punches and he's been punched plenty.
I lost my dad when I was 13. After the initial couple weeks of hating everything and everyone that touched my life, I got over it. Not that I didn't miss him because I did, but I knew he wasn't coming back and nothing I could do would change that. I didn't want to make my mother's life worse than it was by being difficult for her. Maybe Walt feels the same way. It's out of his hands and he has no choice but to accept the hand life's dealt him. He seems a very mature little boy.
I imagine he has deep feelings about the entire situation, but there's no one he can discuss them right now because he and his father don't even know each other. I'm betting that if Sun can speak English, the first person she speaks to will be Walt and they'll develop a close relationship and he'll spill his guts to her.

Ok! I give up! :lol
But you mark my words... something fishy is going on. ;)
I think you're right about Sun though.

Hey, something fishy could still be going on. I might be reading the entire thing wrong. What fun would there be in Walt being a well adjusted kid and Michael being a great dad? Don't give up hope...

This works well with my clone theory. Here's why:
The mother clone has gone "bad" and died. The mother clone became pregnant by her clone husband--JUST LIKE BEFORE, and left him to raise a child ALONE.
The clone husband(Michael) only finds out about it later on. Due to the fact that this event (the secret pregnancy) happened to them BEFORE they were cloned, and as a result of that, the original family was torn apart through strained relations. So when the father returned for his son, they were briefly reconciled but they were killed by the wife's jealous new boyfriend. The father and mother cloned first, age appropriate to their death, and later on the child was cloned from them, using DNA from the original child (Walt) and implanted in the clone mother.
In order to prevent the tragedy from occuring when the cloned boy becomes Walt's age...the scientists decided that since the clone mother was "unfixable" (some brain malfunction..) they had her "die", so that Walt and Michael could "bond"--reversing the tragedy.
Later on it is revealed that the original mother is a TWIN. Her twin was cloned successfully and will be reunited with Michael and Walt. Walt is distant because he wanted his father in his life most of all. He wasn't happy with his stepfather...and his mother who was so secretive about his real father.
Ok, it's a bit of a stretch-- but I think I can successfully rationalize every situation to my clone theory.
:D
