Energy Source - Solar power ?

Probably been discussed but I haven't read all the threads either.

Some type of facility used to exist on the island that was solar powered. Maybe some of the panels were destroyed and there is just enough power to keep a transmitter running?

Then again, I am sure the shows creators would have thought of that and would choose some less obvious explaination.

Ah no. It's powered by giant hamsters running around in super-sized wheels. One of the got loose and even fatter and that's the monster we are talking about.
I figured it all out.
The question is...what were those giant hamsters supposed to power?
A floating island, maybe?
An invisibility shield?

Either it's that or solar power.
