View Full Version : How will they deal with Walt's aging?

Walt is the only person on the cast that will age dramatically from one season to the next. How will they deal with this fact? They could say "6 months later" at the start of each season, but that would be a little crazy and might not work. I'm guessing Walt will either die this season or next, because I can't think of another way to deal with it. Claire's baby can be dealt with easily unless the show lasts for 30 seasons.

You are right, I saw walts folks in an interview recently and they are NOT short people, hinting that he is gonna be a little on the tall side. I seriously doubt they will kill him off though, public outcry of them killing a kid would be murder for the show.

Unless J.J is playing the "savior" aspect with him. Not "jesus" persay because I dont think they'd get that specific (for obvious reasons) but obviously Walt has a possible "savior" quality and if he sacrafices himself for his Father that might be a possibility.
I personally still think Sawyer will go though. His character doesn't seem to have a "long term" feel like others do to me.

I'm getting the sense that Sawyer will die too, probably in a heroic, redemptive type way. He sacrifices himself for the good of the group... that sort of thing.
With regards to Walt, they will probably just let the actor age and not mention anything. We'll just have to deal with it. What choice do they have? Tons of television shows have that problem, and they all pretty much do the same thing.

Yes, but this show is a little different in that each episode is only supposed to be 2 days. Other shows can just say that it's a new year with a new season. It's going to be pretty bizzare to see him have a screetchy voice next season (or in 2 years) once he hits puberty. And the growth thing will also be a factor.

I posted a topic on this before and someone said that maybe next season they'll start having things progress a lot faster. They could be right, for now seeing everything one day at a time might help with the story but once the survivors adjust it might get slow, but who knows, the show has amazing writers. I doubt they'll kill off a child though, they'll deal with it some other way.

I'm not arguing that it wouldn't seem odd, but I wouldn't let it bother me that much. I'm not sure I would want them using time lapses just because one actor on the show is changing a whole lot. The story has got to serve the story. I suppose if the actor who plays Walt has a sudden growth spurt and he becomes six feet tall by the time he's 14, they could kill him off, recast the character, or have a storyline that he's become the victim of an island experiment or something.
I noticed he seemed sort of older in this ep...Weird observation, I know.
I'm not sure, but I'm guessing they're just going to have to suck it up. Haha, or just have the show skip over days that aren't shown? I'm sure it won't be that big a problem since they shoot pretty continuously...so he should be growing along with the episode progressing, if that makes sense.
The Sawyer-dying-redemption thing kind of came to my mind too...I can so see that happening, although it'd suck.

Malcom Kelley (Walt) is adopted.
I hadn't thought about the actor's aging, but it is indeed an issue.
The options I see for this 'problem':
-Write him off the show by killing him, letting him dissappear or letting hem be rescued.
-Give him a 'rapidly aging' storyline, because he's a wonder boy, because of 'the sickness' or because of the island.
-Just ignore the fact that he's aging faster then he should.
-Recast him.
My guess is they'll either go with option nr. 1 or 2.

Probably not going to be much of a problem. I have read (from links posted in here) that this is only supposed to be a four or five season show, so it probably won't matter too much.
