Going under the theory that everyone's name means something....
I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but Disney owns ABC, and could it be a "disney joke" to name Walt & Michael.
Also Michael's name could be like Michael Eisner of Disney

And Locke could be Scar from The Lion King... Just a thought
-Edit-
Their Scars are on Opposite eyes... Maybe Locke is the Opposite of Scar. He seems mean to the Survivors, But actually is there to help (Scar seeming nice to Simba, but has evil ideas.)

Walt's name has always bothered me since, it seems like an older persons name.
So, i looked up the meaning of Michael and walt’s names to see
if their was any significant reson behind the choise
Walt(er)German origin: powerful warrior, ruler of army
Micheal: Hebrew origin: who is like God
significant or not?
I like the Walt / Michael Eisner analogy. Walt is the one with amazing imagination and potential. Michael, while himself somewhat creative, unintentionally sabotages Walt's creativity in his single-minded goal to get off the island. This would be similar to Walt Disney Co's creativity and potential being unwittingly stifled by Michael Eisner's single-minded goal to attain money and power.
I wouldn't put it past the writers to add in some sort of hidden Disney-jabs, after all this show is on ABC.

Wow, I never thought of that. I've though of the Scar idea, but that's a really neat thought... I like it ^_^
In "Born to Run" Sawyer called Michael "Mickey", so now we have Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse.
HEE! I like this thread already!
Never saw this thread before...that is pretty funny Walt and Michael - Walt Disney Michael Eisner, ABC being owned by Disney...makes sense. And he called Michael Mickey like someone else already said.
Interesting. Everyone's name DOES mean something.
