As with almost EVERYthing relating to this show, this falls into the "weird-but-cool-at-the-same-time" category. I know it been out there for a while, though, b/c someone on this board uses that pic of Kate as their avatar

How absolutely surreal. I've heard this referenced, but hadn't seen it yet. Thanks for the link, (I think...)

WOW. I had to watch it twice.
Notice how Locke was the orchestrator in the beginning and then Walt stood in front of him orchestrating?
Pretty HOT moves from Sun. :eek

This used to be on the Channel 4 (http://p073.ezboard.com/flosttheunofficalforumfortheabcseriesfrm2.showMess age?topicID=3562.topic) lost promotion site, but not any more.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. It's the UK promo (well, one of them) for season one. Which I personally think is a really cool promo. There was another topic about it somewhere in GD I think, I'd link you, but I can't, cause stupid ezboard will only let me see threads on the first page...
Still, I thought it was a lovely promo, and so British ;)

What is with the U.K.? A normal promo that has something to do with what is actually happening on the show is not enough to get them to watch? :)

C'mon, Bekka - you've never seen Sigmund the Seamonster???
You really need to catch up on your cheesy 70's drug-induced Saturday morning television shows :lol

I sent you a PM about that Avatar. Sigmund, it was on the tip of my tongue. There sure were some weird shows when I was growing up.

Yeah it brings up memories all right.... very disturbing childhood trauma type memories.
Damn...if it's not somebody reminding me of those creepy sleestacks or whatever the hell they were called.. it's someone reminding me of this walking, talking eggplant crap.
Excuse me now, while I curl up in the corner.

Were you traumatized by a vicious H.R. Pufnstuff at some point in your life, Wart? ;)
The only Kraft-induced nightmare I can recall is being afraid of falling inot the hat (at the beginning of Lidsville). That gave me the creeps :(

I wonder who they got to do the choreography for the dancing, and who in the cast had any dance training?

I loved that promo!!! Since I am on dial up it took a looonnnngggg time to download but it was worth it!
I also got to see it frame by frame as it downloaded and I noticed that Sayid got a good handful of butt towards the end, and Boone was making very unbrotherly moves on his sister, while she was in Sayid's arms....
Kate and Sawyer have soooooo much sexual chemistry!!! Then again Sawyer is so hot he'd have chemistry with anyone!! Its not the same with Kate and Jack!! Also I found it interesting that Boone and Claire were teamed up - they would have made a nice couple - too bad he has to die.
AWESOME dancing by SUN and kudos to her partner Jin as he makes those moves look so easy!!!! Is she a trained dancer in real life?????
Finally I loved that Hurley was in the background with headphones on, oblivious to what was happening on the beach!

I just can't see how they did it with straight faces - they're good actors.
Kate does *NOT* look like Kate in this promo.

I hadn't seen that before, very cool! :p
Merry Slug, you are bringin' me back with all this Super Krofft's show talk. In fact, you have *inspired* me to change my avatar to reflect my favorite dynamic duo, Electra Woman and Dynagirl!! Actually, I use dynagirl as my handle on many other places online. Thanks for the blast from the past!

I heard of the wierd Promo of the Lost Cast dancing, but I never saw it until now......Pretty cool....Make a great "dream sequence"....
But does anyone know WHY they decided to promote the show in the U.K. like this? If I was an English Television viewer and saw this , I would probably think it was some new Wierd "French Avant Garde" style American Series....:p

Yeah, seems pretty weird way to promo the show huh? Also it appears Dom was not available for the shoot and they had to get him in separately, he does not appear with any of the other cast mates. Should have been dancing with Clair at least.

Whew...I thought I was the only oldster here...those pictures certainly brought back memories. I can still sing the theme songs from H.R. Pufnstuf and Land of the LOST (which, BTW, was home to the previously mentioned hissing Sleestaks:eek ...I think they traumatized my younger brother, along with the Abominable Snowman from the Rudolph Christmas special).
OK, back to the thread...um, what was it again?

Why didn't they include these promos in the LOST DVD bonus disc?
That would have been cool, maybe hide them as easter eggs.

I think you'd be surprised. I have a feeling that many of us are over 30 (I'm over 40 myself). From the tone, references, and intelligence of the posts on this board, I'd also venture to guess that many of us are well educated (college and graduate degrees).
Is there an area in the community board where people have given their age and education level? I'd also like to see how people came up with their screen names.

Thanks merry!
Dreamin, I think you're right--I've thought for a long time that it takes some smarts to really follow the show!
For the record, I'm 41 with a Bachelor's degree in education and I'm working on my Master's.
And as far as my screen name, we have adopted 3 wonderful little girls from China:)

10-19-05, 05:08 PM
In the UK when that showed on TV it was accompanied by writing across the screen - it went along the lines of:
"One of us is a sinner"
"One of us is a saint"
"One of us is a murderer"
And it carried on like that throughout the dancing - I can't remember what any of the other statements said though.
It was a really interesting promotion, I think we were already aware that it was about a group of aeroplane crash survivors.

OK I found it - here are all the comments:

one of us is a junkie ...
one of us is a cop...
one of us is a saint..
one of us is a sinner...
one of us is a martyr...
one of us is a murderer.....
all of us are guilty... all of us are Lost..."

There is a thread in the Lostaways Community Area (http://p073.ezboard.com/flosttheunofficalforumfortheabcseriesfrm22.showMes sage?topicID=906.topic) that covers how people came up with their screenames. Probably one for education level as well.

When did this commercial first air?? Does anyone remember? I just think it is sooo cool! Sun's actress has definitely had some dance training.
I think there could be a LOT of information here....
Here are my thoughts:
Hurley - Casually walking by and watching everyone. Probably feeling left out, not a part of the group at all but we already know that.
Sun/Jin - still very in love but in a tormented way. not sure if they can trust each other. We know this info already though...
Sayid/Shannon - Sayid is just hot. We know this already. Shannon didnt come across as "sexy" as the other ladies. Maybe she isnt sincere with Sayid or maybe she is just a bad actress. Boone pulling her away - obvious.
Claire/Boone - Boone is dead. I think maybe Claire might be gone soon too. Maybe she is "dancing with death"
Charlie - dancing alone and very erratically as though he is hittin the heroin again. Maybe he gets on the stuff again and alienates Claire OR maybe she dies and it sends him back to it.
Michael - trying to get to everyone else but is falling Maybe Walt is trying to keep him at a distance from the group as he is "orchestrating". Maybe it just shows that he keeps himself emotionally unattached from everyone which we know already. He pulls Sun away from Jin. So far she is the only person to really befrend Michael. Maybe we will see another little love triangle?
Kate/Jack - she looks as though she is feigning attraction which I believe she is doing on the island. Also the mascara down the cheeks shows she's been crying. Maybe over Sawyer leaving? She pulls herself away from Jack when Sawyer shows up. Then back and forth between them...
Jack/Sawyer staredown - I think there is more of that to come, but we all know that.
Claire alone by the fire - maybe the baby does get stolen...
Locke and Walt - I dont think we are done with Walt. Its obvious from this commerical he has an important role on this island. He has been and will continue to be Locke's little apprentice.
Also if this aired AFTER Boone died, then I think it might be possible that his death still torments Shannon and it gets in the way with Sayid. Maybe she starts seeing visions of him too.
When did this commercial first air?? Does anyone remember?
The Show started in the UK, I think, at the earliest 13th July, and the latest on the 20th July, so this promo would've been around for at least three weeks prior to that, which was end of June. Ish.
Bear in mind, it's for season one, so looking at from just end of s1 perspective, the information connected to the layout of the promo is pretty basic. I don't think I've seen (til your post) someone analyse it regarding events from season 2.
Interesting ideas - particularly the Michael being stopped from joining the group, perhaps by Walt.
The thing that struck me about the promo, aside from that I loved it, was the intensity. Looking back, the connections shown in it, are all seen in one way or another. I particularly found it interesting though, that Locke and Walt were conducting the dancing.
Going on a season 2 outlook, Locke seemed to be the orchestrator of events in season one (Jack's leadership, Charlie's addiction, Claire's baby, Boone's death, the Hatch etc...) perhaps Walt will be an orchestrator of major events in season two?

This was not the only promo that was aired to promote Lost.
there was also your regular shots of the pilot episode followed by "Guys?...Where are we?"
It was just to get peoples attention and think what the hell is that?

Thanks for the link, I've been dying to see the promo, as I've been using screen shots of it making my avi's and sig's all summer.

:rollin Charles Nelson Reilly in Lidsville! Wow, that really takes me back.
What I found creepier was the monkey's on Lancelot Link Secret Chimp. I mean, Talking monkey's was one hell of a scientific breakthrough in the 70's. Could be "the incident" Desmond speaks of:rollin

I'm pretty sure it was this advert that actually got me to watch Lost. I thought the show must be so good if they're just having their characters dancing slowly to advertise it!
I wasn't disappointed

Before the show began in the UK, Channel 4 showed a "trailer" for Lost, which featured, if i can recall correctly, the cast members doing like weird movements in slow motion. It was really cool, and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find it on the net. Does anyone know what I'm on about?

never mind.. i've found it now.. although if you watch it, it gives u examples of plotlines throughout the show... eg Jack-Kate-Sawyer, Locke and Walt, Sayid and Shannon (while I'm on the subject, Naveen doesn't hesitate to grab Maggie's bum!)
can you link it? share the wealth!!!!

Clearly an elaborate commercial. I would be interersted in the thought process that resulted in the decision to broadcast this surreal commercial in England but not in the U.S.
Lost Jock
05-01-06, 12:30 AM
I the reason this was shown in the UK and not US comes down to the way different viewer attitudes towards television on either side of the Atlantic.
This is a really long promo. The US typically has a higher frequency of ad breaks. With so many advertising messages promoting everything from Twinkies to cars the typical American sat infront of the box during ads might have a thought pattern that runs something like...
"Nah... Garbage... Junk... Pointless... Boring... Oh, hey! I could do with one of those"
In the UK we're more tolerant towards adverts i.e. we can put up with it for longer than 2 seconds before deciding whether or not we need the product for sale. Like this...
"Oh, look. A woman on rollerblades, walking her dog. She looks happy. If it comes with wings, can she fly?..."
Although really clever, this dancing 'Lost' promo is a very 'Artsy Fartsy'. At first glance it could easily be advertising some high-brow period drama.
