kinda neat that they listed the email in the episode but unfortunately it gets returned

A lot of people put the year they were born in their email address. Does this mean Jin was born in 1974? That would make him only 31.

It appears to be the birthdate in middle there of 11-27-1974?
We also see his email and some other dates, it might be fun to check these as dates in history. THey appear to be listings of previous job dates.

Has any of this been translated anywhere yet? It would be interesting to see what he was up to in 1988 since that is assumed to be the 16 year ago time frame.

What are you talking about with 16 years ago? That flashback was not 16 years ago.

A South Korean in 1988 likely would've been focused on the Summer Olympics (which were held in Seoul and referenced by Hurley in last night's episode).

Hey Lost Dog. I'm talking about the 1988 that shows up on him resume that would correspond with Dani's transmission 16 years ago.

MAJOR BUMP!!
This is potentially BIG news!! I just got an email from the good Dr. Marvin Candle. Unlike the response I got from Jin, when I used his proper email jins0074@yahoo.com, which was this:
ERROR: 4815162342
This Message was undeliverable due to the following
reason: MALFUNCTION AT 3/6.
Your message was not delivered because the Hanso
computer refused to accept it (the error message is
reproduced below). This type of error is usually due
to a mis-configured account or mail delivery system on
the destination computer; however, it could be caused
by your message since some mail systems refuse
messages with invalid header information, or if they
are too large.
Your message was rejected by dharma.mail.yahoo.com for
the following reason:

Please reply to <marvincandle108@yahoo.com>
if you feel this message to be in error.
Now, I went ahead and emailed Dr. Candle cause dammit I want some freakin answers. Also unlike Jin, Candle speaks and understands English (kinda hard writing to a Korean who knows little/no English in English), I actually asked some questions to the Doc. I asked:
- Does the Dharma Initiative and the Hanso Corporation still work together?
- How did you lose you arm?
- What was the "incident" you referred to in the Orientation film for station 3 - the swan?
And today (4 days later, NOT an automated response) I got this:
That project had to be abandoned many years ago.
As for our arms, Ray lost a lot more than I did.
I cannot comment further. I am sorry.
Namaste,
M.S.
Anyone else get anything from Dr. Candle?
BTW - his email is marvincandle108@yahoo.com (if you missed it above). Try it, as well as Jin's. I want to see what the deal is with this before I begin speculation.
Peace,
Truff

I e-mailed Marvin Candle as well. I got a reply a few minutes ago. I aske why the Hanso Corp. would operate Jin's Yahoo e-mail account. Here is the reply:

Personally, I don't think this e-mailer is affiliated with the show so I wouldn't put much stock in what they have to say.

I got one with pretty much the same info about the project being abandoned, but there was a P.S. on mine....if, and that's a big IF, this email is affiliated with LOST, I wonder why there is such a strange P.S. added to mine?

So it's definitely a person replying to the emails.
Whether or not they're affiliated with the show remains in question. I sent Marvin another email pretty much calling "shenanigans" on him. We'll see how he responds to being called a fake. I just hope he doesn't take 4 days to reply, which is possible as he/she/they must be recieving thousands of emails, and they ARE slightly personalized; ie - I asked about his arm, and got the basic reply + a comment about his arm and Ray (Mullen, from Tabula Rasa?).
While I wait to see what kind of reply comes, I'm gonna lean towards this being a fan-run thing.
Peace,

Whether or not they're affiliated with the show remains in question.
Yeah, I remain skeptical of this until we get some sort of confirmation on it. By the way, it also took about 3-4 days for me to get a response from both the Jin email and Marvin.
Also, I posted a message to Javi asking him to confirm or deny the email affiliation with the show. We'll see if he answers it directly or if he remains vague about it.

My email to him is below:

> you have to do with Dharma?
Both of these Yahoo Profiles were created on 10-20-05, the day after "...and Found" aired. This makes me doubt that it is anyone connected to the show. We will see!

So someone asked Javi re: Marvin Candle? Cool.
He has already stated that the 1974 was a gaff so dont' put any significance on that as Jin's birthdate.
What is COOL is the fans getting involved in all of this in --well-- whatever passes for us for "real life", if you get my drift.

You are right. it says jinsoo74@yahoo.com which has a different profile than jins0074.

A couple of things here while I'm on lunch break:
- Jin's email on his resume was indeed jinsoo74@yahoo.com, but that email sent a mailer-daemon failure to deliver message back to me instantaneously. It was jins0074@yahoo.com that got me the Hanso-failure to deliver message, and it took a few days (and that was an accident as "o" and "0" are so close on the keypad).
- As far as Dr. Candle's email goes, I called him/her/them out, and I got the automated response in less than 24 hours. This time with no personal touches.
- Waiting to see if Javi responds on the Fuselage to this, but I'm still game to wait and see what happens next...
Peace,
Truff

I see that you have communicated with an address different from that given in the show (jinsoo74). It is possible that other variants of the original address were also created by fans after the show aired.

I think he said that the 30 years old mention might be an error when considered together with the 1974 birth date and the possible time of the interview.

Hey guys, just to say, I, as well as I'm sure a lot of you, play ARGs (see www.unfiction.com for an explaination of what they are). IF this reply is done by the show, it would be considered "In-Game," and as such, any emails to the address saying "oh, you're just a kid with too much time on his hands" or whatever would either not be met with a reply, or met with a generic reply.
Unfortunately, this gets us no nearer to discovering whether this IS just some overexcited script-kiddie, or actually part of a larger story. Of course, Lost so far has had a lot of ARGish elements (mainly the websites, email address, and weird Channel 4 website associated with the programme (here in the UK)), but they have all seem to have not led into an ARG, or for that matter given up a great deal of information. (automated replies etc, all very nice, but hardly terribly exciting). I would like to think that something more will come of this, but it's been so long that I doubt it somehow...
Ah well...

Hi, I have been reading the boards for awhile. I must admit the email thing peaked my interest so I joined. I emailed the address to Jin and Marvin Candle. First thing that made it obvious that Jin's Email address was a fake NDR email. Yahoo will automatically generate a NDR (No Delivery Reply) Jins NDR took atleast a day. It became obvious Jin's NDR reply was a fake when I looked at the I.P. Address the email originated from. (139.55.82.13).
Here is a copy of the email header:
from [139.55.82.13] by web35703.mail.mud.yahoo.com via HTTP;Thu, 27 Oct 2005 07:56:34 PDT
Date:        Thu, 27 Oct 2005 07:56:34 -0700 (PDT)
From:        Send an Instant Message "Jin Soo" <jins0074@yahoo.com>
I then compared the email header from Marvin Candle. Here is the header:

The I.P. That this email originated is from (139.55.82.13)
It is very obvious that both emails originated from the same I.P. Subnet (139.55.82.)
This subnet belongs to ALLTEL.
www.alltel.com/business/i...dband.html (http://www.alltel.com/business/inoffice/data/broadband.html)
One of their products is leasing I.P. address's to small businesses.
I searched ARIN for the I.P's that were on the email headers and found the company that is leasing the I.P.'s from ALLTEL.
Here is a copy of the info from ARIN:
Trying ARIN lookup...
ALLTEL Corporation ALLTEL (NET-139-55-0-0-1)
139.55.0.0 - 139.55.255.255
M&M Programming 139-55-82-8 (NET-139-55-82-8-1)
139.55.82.8 - 139.55.82.15
# ARIN WHOIS database, last updated 2005-10-27 19:10
Notice that the small subnet range 139.55.82.8 - 139.55.82.15 are leased to M&M Programming.
www.mmprogramming.com (http://www.mmprogramming.com) Is the website for this company leasing the subnets. I then resolved the website address and got this IP:
Resolving www.mmprogramming.com...
139.55.82.10
The address for this website has an IP that falls into their leased I.P. subnet.
I then ran an HTTPGET and got this:
HEAD request "/" to www.mmprogramming.com (139.55.82.10)

Server: Microsoft-IIS/5.0
Date: Fri, 28 Oct 2005 04:01:15 GMT

If you go to the website you will see it is a small computer consulting shop in Lebanon, KY. It's obvious it is a small company since they can only afford to lease a tiny IP subnet and their website is running on a very insecure IIS-5.0 server. This is not the work of the producers of LOST.
So feel free to visit their site and email them and ask them why they are trying to fake everyone out. Or you could call them at Toll Free: 800-337-3601.
Feel free to do the research yourself. It only takes about 5 minutes to look it up. 8)
