My husband and I are big fans of the show and have been trying desparately to figure out the mystery of the island. At this point, we've come to the conclusion that everyone on the island is dead and don't know it. Also, they don't know that they need to "pass on" to the other side.
It seems as though whenever the "survivors" hear the crashing in the jungle, it may be "death" coming for them. If you noticed in the first episode with the pilot who died; when he was pulled out of the plane, he was later found in a tree--dead and bloody. I believe that his spirit was in the plane and Death came for him and then we later saw his body in the actual way he died--being thrown from the plane and landing in the tree.
Also, we noticed that when Charlie was on the plane with his drugs in the bathroom, he initially left the center of the plane to go forward to the bathroom. But, when he left the bathroom and grabbed a seat during all the turbulence, he grabbed the first seat he could get to--in the front of the plane. But, when we see all the survivors wandering on the beach in the beginning of the show, he is wandering on the beach with the rest them. How could this be if he wasn't in the center of plane? Wouldn't Charlie have ended up in the jungle with the front of the plane? Plus, how could 42 people crash land from 40,000 ft in a plane with no front and tail and survive w/ basically scratches? Seems to us--no one would have survived. Well, these are our conclusions at this point. I am having a great time reading everyone's opinions. Some really great ideas.
