Does anyone think the others are bringing Desmond supplies? I haven't noticed any chickens and I definately saw him put eggs in that blender.

If somone else has addressed this issue, let me know.

There is undoubtedly a lot more to the underground complex than we have seen. A place for a few hens wouldn't be much of a stretch.

Actually, he didn't put eggs in the blender. I don't know exactly what they were, seemed to be some type of fruit, but they were reddish and definitely not eggs.

Someone on imdb claims canned peaches. Like bigcat, however, I suspect there's some kind of fresh food source in the Hatch. Likely hydroponic.

Which bit did you think were the eggs. I saw powder followed by cherries and some other fruit...

Looks to be fruit in my book!

Way too dark to be eggs. Some kind of 'creepy island in the pacific somewhere' type.. You know ;)

it's canned fruit cocktail...if you look at the wide(r) shot AFTER the bird's eye view of the inside of the blender, you can easily see the familiar mixed-fruit-in-syrup. canned fruit cocktail...the kind one might have in, say, an underground bunker of some kind. or your lunchbox, if you're eight.

There "definitely" weren't any eggs! You'll be able to see for yourself, since they are re-airing this episode right before episode 2 this Wednesday, if you didn't tape it.

I have HDTV and recorded the scene. They are not eggs, just some pieces of fruit. I'd add the picture, but I can't figure out how to do it on this board :(

:rolleyes

More things that are NOT in the hatch.........NO there is NOT a CD player, as stated in other posts. The guy in the hatch has BOTH of his arms, which says he is NOT the member of Daniel's team that lost his arm, and a WINDOW in the hatch....NO! If you watch the scene, it looks like a large version of the sconce lighting in the room. Maybe dressed up to look like a window, but not a window (you can clearly see the circular outline behind the square louvered covering). Still no eggs in there either, lol.
One thing that I did notice...there is a ping pong table set up against the wall, with one side verticle (for playing with only one person) That means he either lives totally alone, or his roommates don't play ping pong. (then what do they do for entertainment, I care not to think)

Did someone really suggest that Desmond only had one arm? :rollin Are they watching the same show?

Uncle Nemo:

ROTFL! (one-armed Desmond ;)

You forgot about the flatscreen TV ;)

There is one thing I'm not sure about, (I don't have it taped to go back and check) but there's a description of a board game. I'm curious to know if that's true, since, by nature, it takes at least two to play ;) .

Loveriot,

I'll check out the board game in a few. Check back later

OK there is a board game. It's Backgammon
Other things I noticed:
There are modern Washer/Dreyer's being used. Look like the GE brand advertised on TV nowadays. There are also PLASTIC detergent bottles and plastic cleaning supply bottles. The bottm bunk is empty (Des sleeps on the top) bottom bunk is also neatly made. There are many dirty dishes on the kitchen counter, but he cleans the dishes that were on the table. Still no eggs.... Levitron wall switches for the lights..... Ping pong balls and paddles in at least 3 screen shots.. I think that we are looking too far into it though. Maybe there used to be more people down there (at least one, or why the bunk beds) Maybe it was Daniele and she escaped, or was kicked out, after all she is Looney, lol.

Thanks Uncle Nemo, for checking it out for me! I appreciate it!

Still no eggs....

You are really cracking me up here, ROTFL!

I think that we are looking too far into it though. Maybe there used to be more people down there

Hee! You mean, such as....there's eggs down there so there's a chicken hatchery and fresh fruit means there's a hydroponic garden which means there are lots of people which means they are in purgatory...or other such nonsense, lol! That is to say, faulty observation leading to faulty logic/assumptions leading to preposterous theorizing.

Ah, no, that's not what I was trying to do, hee hee. I'm just trying to comfortably make some grounded generalities. We see items in the hatch that span over decades from computers (circa 70s or 80s) and lava lamps to state-of-the-art washer/dryer. This lets me comfortably assume the hatch was made decades ago.

Just the concept of the hatch and size of it suggests there's more than one person is involved, as do the existence of bunk beds, but I was looking for something that was more recent to suggest the possibility that there may be more than one person there now. The backgammon game supports that idea.

Everyone says those peaches are not eggs.

Maybe they are eggs from a different species of bird with a red yolk.

The peach bird.

Seriously, that bird from season one must lay some rather unpleasant eggs.

Or there's a community that no one knows about---yet.

There are some species of birds that lay canned fruit instead of eggs.

The theories go on and on. But, at the end of the day, it's just a tv show. Writers are human. They probably didn't expect people to scrutanize the episodes the way we do.
Having said that, I don't think that Des, or anyone else on the island built what is connected to the hatch. It could just be something else that crashed there. (sky-lab, lol)
BAD NUMBERS! Gotta admit that is hard to explain.
That's all for now:hat

Hi, I'm new here! I have to chime in because I, too, could have sworn I saw him breaking eggs. I went back to look at my tape and I couldnt SEE eggs, but he made the motion and sound of breaking eggs.

Dang! Now I have to look at the tape again. LOL My reception was awful (no cable) and it was very hard to watch anyway. So much of it was dark to start with, and then the poor reception.

But, at the end of the day, it's just a tv show.

And we have to remember to have some fun!

C'mon, admit it, Fruit Cockatiel got a chuckle out of you ;)

FWIW, there was a deleted scene from Exodus 1 in which Charlie and Claire are talking on the beach as they're watching Danielle from a distance (presumably this is after Danielle has warned them the Others are coming but before she takes Aaron). While they're talking about her, Danielle cracks open a brown-spotted egg and eats it raw, savoring it as if it's been awhile since she's had an egg. My thought at the time was that she's been in the jungle a long time so when she gets a chance to raid the nests of sea birds, she helps herself. I thought it was weird since no one else had been eating/cooking eggs.

Maybe that's why it was deleted!

There WERE no eggs. What I saw/heard as the egg breaking motion/sound was Desmond putting down a little measuring cup (which made a click on the counter) and picking up something else. He was doing this quickly so I guess that's why my brain read this as breaking eggs.

Yep...had to chime in on the "those weren't eggs" litany.

I watched several times...and I, too, am satisfied that the shell-cracking sound was actually Desmond futzing with items on the counter. The red drop-ins were marachino cherries...and the other ingredients were some sort of protein powder and melon or canned fruit (the peach theory works).

The washer and dryer COULD be from the late 60's/early 70's. My own first washer and dryer were old White-Westinghouse front-loaders that I bought from an elderly woman's estate sale. They looked a LOT like the ones down the hatch.
