Ok, before I start I may sound like I am criticising others posters observations, I am not, I respect the thought and effort that they put into their views.
Anyway, what I am talking about is a tendency of people to analyse the smallest points to the minutest details. The topic that got me thinking of this was the impressive but possibly over analysed observations on the arrangement to the paint pots. (I'll get to kind of a theory soon). Being as they were in front of a painting made up of many clues about the show, in particular the number 108, it got me thinking that the significance of this is to take everything we see as a whole. The number 108 is the sum of 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42, and with any painting, if you look at it too close, you just see brush strokes but no picture. So, the number 108 is the important number and the component numbers are just there as a convenient way to split it into 6 numbers that arent immediatly obvious to the people they effect (except Hurley who had a major experience with all 6).
So, my point is that this may signify that there is no one piece of the puzzle that will tell us all the answers (or even close to that), but just as each number is relatively insignificant alone, as a whole, they only really mean something when all put together. So that we need all the pieces of the Lost puzzle to know whats going on, and any individual piece we look at, no matter how long for may just turn out to be a bit of sky.
I hope that makes some sense cos im not even quite sure what I'm saying is relevant or coherent, but there might be something useful in their to someone.
If there isnt anything remotely helpful in there I,ll just add this theory, it cant be true for countless reasons but there is so much that goes on on the island that could be linked to the Resident Evil games, wouldnt it be great if Desmond worked for Umbrella?
Ramble over...
I think...
Confused?
I am, and I wrote it.
