One Natural One Supernatural.
Why does it rain when the 'security system' attacks?
Any of you who have read Philip Pullmans 'His Dark Materials' will be familiar with the theory of cutting doorways in dimensions.
Maybe in the past (70's) a tear was discovered, a group of scientists went through the tear and established a base.
What they didnt appreciate at the time was that there were implications, they would suffer from not being in their own time zone/dimension, perhaps they didnt experience the same aging process that 'normal time' experienced...maybe the sickness was inherent to the island/halfway house.
Or perhaps they opened a tear into another dimension and something like the equivelant of that dimensions 'common cold' was transferred with one of the 'carriers' but to humans it was deadly. Perhaps they opened a doorway to somewhere and whatever came through carried the virus with them - giving different symptoms?
What if the others are cavemen who dressed up in old pirate gear left over from the black rock? Would explain the 'OoooOooga'in the jungle (Ok now it's getting ridiculous, back to the main thread).
What if by going through the tear they located technology, theories beyond their conception but ones they tried to put into practice. Not only could they cross into this dimension but they were able to create tears themselves. However they havent found the way to close these tears. In their haste of scientific discovery they used the adapted theories/technology to experiment....in the early days of their manipulation though it was very hit and miss, they were able to open doorways to the past but unable to seal them.... They opened a tear to prehistoric times but were unable to close it. Therefore when the monster attacks it's raining, because it's raining where the "T-rex" (hypothetically) is....in the past and the tear drifts around the 'island'...
The smokey cloud that tries to carry people away is a different form of enemy...this is supernatural...this is nature trying to redress the issue...this is darkmatter pulling at the very nature of the people who are there, ejecting what is there (the castaways)......
The Black rock is there because it sailed through a rip in the fabric of its dimension or because like the oceanic815 was brought there by something/someone....
The Monster is there because there is a tear focused in a region in the past...
Maybe Jacks father being physically there in body was wandering round as there is another tear....a tear into the world of the dead (Reference Philip Pullman - Amber Spyglass).
The island is a halfway house, a mid point between dimensions and time. It is not possible to travel to the future but it is possible to reach the past...however maybe it is possible to predict the future using the discovered techniques/mathematic theories adapted from whoever originally left them....therefore using the predictions of these equations whoever was at the island decided what they needed to do, they needed to go back in time and collect special individuals, talented individuals to fix whatever problem is going to occur...to cure the sickness that killed the original theorist/s/being who founded the techiques.
But Desmond is just the builder....
He is not the architect....that is someone else...someone selfish who sought all the survivours for his own purposes and his own gain.
I suspect he is masquarading as one of the survivors and the others are previously selected people who did not have what he was looking for...something specific....something that may be a sign of the evolution occuring in human existance that allows him the key to his lock. The cure to his sickness. The jigsaw piece to his own lifethreatning puzzle.....
He has been searching long and maybe the black rock was one of his first quests for what he is looking for...the plane is now another....maybe he purposely opened the original tear to get the scientists through...to put his plans into action...maybe when desmond says 'Are You Him?' He is refering to the original presence.
All completely speculative and not well thought out as i was typing as i thought...but this is what happens when all you do is read the forums and have yet to see the entire 1st series...maybe there's a few things that that dont conflict with eachother and maybe might be a part of it.
Regards.
