I'm a pseudo theorist, having only posted a couple of theories. This type of research is handled better by Chance or the P man, but my fiance and I were talking tonight and she said something that made me think. She said,"Aren't you disappointed Hurley didn't see the #'s on the hatch?"
Yes! Why haven't the #'s been discussed when regarding the hatch? Locke, has I'm sure been all over that hatch, every sqaure inch of it. Jack, Sayiid, Boone, Locke, Hurley, Kate, and Danielle have investigated this hatch and not one of them has made mention of the numbers.
This is my theory.....
The #'s aren't on our hatch. No one has made mention of the #'s yet because they haven't seen them yet.
At the end of "Numbers" the camera panned to a metallic substance with the #'s imprinted in it, but we don't know for sure that it was "our" hatch. We just assume it was "our" hatch because the episode just intrduced us to it.
What if the the tail section survivors (Anna Lucia, Rose's husband, etc.) had survived the plane crash too. But only landed on a different but equally strange island.....With a similar hatch.....This one with the #'s imprinted on it....A link to the other island (our island). There is no discernable way of opening it from our island, but maybe on the other island (tail section people) there is a "discernable latch" to open the portal, using the #'s to link to the other (our) island. That may explain why the monster (security system) lay dorment for so long in the last few episodes, it has also been protecting the other island/s.
I know those of you that have played the Myst series will think this is redundant as this was discussed before,but this new speculation only supports this theory. The hatch = a linking book. A transport to other islands.
If you disagree, tell me why hasn't there been talk of said numbers between the survivors regarding the numbers on the hatch.
