On the old "Outer Limits" (the original in black and white), there was an episode called "Ick" (or something like that). All I remember about it is that it involved an eye doctor who created a special kind of lens for eyeglasses that corrected a specific vision problem. Unintentionally, the eyeglasses also allowed the wearer to see an entity who was trapped here, away from his own planet. No one could actually see it unless they were wearing the glasses. Anyway, the point is that this being whose name was "Ick" (I think, anyway) was made of some kind of electromagnetic energy, invisible to the naked eye. When it tried to move about on our planet, it literally ripped things apart. It didn't intend to; it was a result of it coming into contact with solid matter. Is it possible that a component of the monster is some kind of electromagnetic energy that rips things apart (intentionally or otherwise)? It may have been able to tear the plane apart, as well as the pilot. Slightly brushing against it could have caused the scratches on Danielle and Locke.
