View Full Version : Does Shannon love Boone?

I've been doing some thinking about the Rutherford sibilings episode and (minus the fact that they are step sibilings) Boone and Shannon's relationship is 100% the typical "Emo" relationship (taken to the extreme of course). It seems obvious that Boone loves Shannon and allowed himself to be manipulated by her, but does Shannon love Boone? Did she continually manipulate Boone only for the money or did some part of her enjoy the fact that someone loved her enough to fly around the globe and "save" her from these abusive men?

I don't think she does. I believe she is a good manipulator in getting what she wants and will do whatever it takes in each situation to make that happen. Who's to say the men are even abusive? That could all be some act.

You're telling me that Brian guy seemed stable?
I thought she was a master manipulator the entire episode...until she got drunk and had sex with Boone.

I didn't pay too much attention to the character of Brian, so I can't say lol. He could have been really abusive, I don't know.

I don't believe it's a one-sided affair. I get the impression Shannon's been in love with Boone for just as long. That's why she's in so many doomed relationships, she's running away from her feelings for him.

I think she's a selfish brat who doesn't love anything or anyone, she only looks out for herself. I don't think she loves Boone, I think he amuses her and feeds her ego because he loves her. That's just what I'm getting for now, we do have to remember that that flashback episode was Boone's, not Shannon's. Perhaps I'll see her differently after we see hers. I like her as a character, or rather I love to hate her, I just think she's a manipulative, self centered woman.

I think that maybe now Boone is being more distant with her she'll realise she loves him, and try and make him come back to her.

I think she does love him, and as the series goes on, will love him even more........
Hopefully later, after they both are sufficiently changed people, maybe they will even get together...... (that may scare some of you, but I thought they had great chemistry!)

I don't think her getting back with Boone is going to happen anytime soon. Especially with her beginning romance with Sayid. If I had to pick someone for Shannon though, I would pick Sawyer because they are alot alike.

I agree with this - so far all we've seen is Shannon as a self-centered bitch. She has manipulated both Boone and Charlie (remember the fish incident?), and has spent her days laying on the beach working on her tan.
Whether her flirtation with Sayid will be more of the same (which I doubt, since he doesn't strike me as someone who's easily duped) or not, I certainly hope the writers allow Shannon to grow up a bit, and soon.

I, for one, am fascinated by Shannon. There is a lot more to her than meets the eye. I'm 20, as she supposedly is, and I can't imagine sleeping with an older guy in every foreign country by this time in my life! And she was married...very interesting. To answer the question of this thread, I'd say that Shannon definitely has some deep feelings for Boone. We've seen how easily she gets under Boone's skin, but he can get under hers too, in a big way (i.e., "You're useless, Shannon"), and at least he's beginning to realize that when he acts like he doesn't care, then Shannon is powerless. I think she treats him the way she does because it gives her the control and facade of self-confidence, when really she is just as weak and vulnerable and scared as Boone. If she didn't care what Boone thought of her, she wouldn't be so offended by his comments. I love the love/hate dynamic they have.
Obviously, she's going to mature (she really has nowhere to go but up), because I think her flirtation with Sayid is going to get more intense. Like azteclady said, Sayid's not stupid. Anyway, when Shannon's not acting like a spoiled brat, she actually seems sweet and intelligent. I think we're going to see a lot more of this side of her. On a show like this, the characters aren't going to stagnate--they'll either evolve or devolve--and Shannon has nowhere to regress to.

I suspect she plays the victim in relationships. If a guy isn't abusive, she eggs him on until he does something. Then she milks it for all it's worth by calling Boone. She's as much a con as Sawyer.

True, but why do you think that is? (That's kind of rhetorical, since we can only speculate.) We can see the foundations of why Sawyer's so screwed up, but I wonder what Shannon's deal is. There are underlying issues there, I think. Even spoiled brats have issues. :)

I agree with the person who said Shannon was fasinated by her because I am as well.. I do like her and Sawyer.
Anyways, someone else said Shannon seems like the type of person who likes to egg people on until they abuse her or whatever. That would make her a Masochist. That can be a possibility.. I mean she does seem like the type.. but she can also be a Sadist... she likes to inflict pain on others. Maybe not physical pain but emotional pain..
I don't think that she loves Boone. I think that she just loves what she can get from him.

I think Shannon does love Boone, not as a brother, and not as a lover, but more as a 'parent' figure, and if you follow my line of thought, you'll see it's not as twisted as it seems.
For some reason that we don't know yet, we know that Shannon's father, for whatever reason, left his estate to his ex-wife when he died and not his blood-related child. Shannon's mother has not been spoken of, meaning she has died or has been out of Shannon's life for some time. So it's safe to say that Shannon does not have any good parental relationships to speak of.
Boone, so it seems, has always been there for her, ensuring her physical safety, if nothing more, and it seems she clings to any sense of security in her life (which I believe was why she was painting her toenails in the pilot; it brought a sense of normalcy). She counts on Boone, and somewhere, underneath it all, desperately wants his approval and to please him, but she is also constantly rebelling against him, and 'baiting' him with these rescue missions (of the abusive boyfriends).
who said that shannon would have been good with sawyer? ITA, they will probably always be my biggest ship on this show. i could see an entire show about boone, shannon, sawyer, and sayid.

You make a very valid case for your theory. I totally see where you're coming from. Maybe once we get another glimpse of Shannon's back-story, her feelings for Boone will become clear.

I think Shannon has genuine feelings for Sayid because he is probably the first person she has bothered to help. He asked for her assistance and she was able to come through for him (translating French). Boone has been hounding her to contribute and she finally found this niche. She might have found this productive interaction refreshing instead of falling back into her master manipulator role.
OR
She could just be using Sayid to make Boon jealous!!!

I think she loves him but she is in denial and dating people opposite of Boones traits to try to convince herself that she doesn't love him.

Just wanted to allow everybody a chance to change their minds after watching last nights, The Greater Good.
I stand by my initial post. Shannon's revenge was predicated on her love for Boone. And, I'm surprised Sayid went along with it. I remember Shannon telling him about Boone's feelings for her.
I'm with you Hodge. She did it because of her love for him. Boone was the only person out there who truly understood her...and now he's gone.

I'm with Hodge as well. I'm actually glad she went after Locke... her character is finally starting to take action for things instead of lying around tanning and bitching at people.
I'm really intersted in Shannon's backstory... Shame there's not an episode for her this season :\
Shannon loves Shannon.
.... ugh, I shutter at the thought that we won't get a Shannon-centric episode until next season, if at all! I think she's an selfish, manipulative brat, but I am so intrigued by her! I guess I'm proof that men are stupid for pretty blondes with nice midriffs.

I'm with DohBoy.
Shannon does feel something at Boone's death but it's not about him. Not about what he will not experience, not about his suffering. It's about Shannon not having the safety net that Boone represented. Because up to this point in her life, Boone has always been the ultimate line of defense, her safe haven, her knight in shinning armor who -regardless of anything and everything she does- will ride to her rescue.
That is what Boone's death represents for Shannon, what hits her deep enough that it can move her to act for herself (after trying, of course, to get Sayid to do her dirty work).

I think until her story is revealed it is rough to understand Shannon and her motives ...
I think she loved Boone but she also likes Sayd and is confused by everything and I think Maggie is doing a credible job showing her vulnerability at times yet still maintaining her bitchiness ..

I also believe Maggie Grace is doing a good job with what material she has - but either the writers give me a truly good backstory to explain Shannon's apparent selfishness / shallowness (is that a word?), or I'll go on believing her to be a thoroughly useless human being.

Maybe is Season 2 her story will be told more !!
