I don't know how many Boston Red Sox fans out out there, but I'm just shocked at Dan Shaugnessy's Boston Globe article ripping Theo Epstein the day before he would have signed a new contract.

Theo would have returned until he read that article and it had all this "inside info" bad-mouthing him and saying how ungrateful he is to Luccino (Sox CEO).

I mean how stupid can Shaugnessy/Luccino be to piss off someone who hasn't signed his contract yet. Anyone would have walked away.

Everyone in Boston hates Shaugnessy. I've only lived here 4 years and now I truly believe that made a disgraceful impact on the Sox.

Now I think that the Sox will find someone who can adequately replace Theo, like Towers, but still - Theo was THE MAN and its a shame for him to leave the team after only 3 years - 3 amazing years!

Here's the Globe article:

I Love the SOX...just got a sox tattoo with my girls names tattoed above and below. I totally agree with you....let's just hope we have some decent players left. I wouldn't miss Damon...but Mueller and Millar (ok he's not the greatest..but he's got character)

I used to like Millar but I have grown to hate him. I'm glad he is gone. I don't think they'll resign Billy Ballgame and thats tough because he is impossible to dislike. I think Damon is still up in the air. I don't think they give him 5 years though if they sign him. They need to look at BJ Ryan (although he said he likes NY) and Billy Wagner for the pen. If Damon leaves Juan Pierre is available and could be a viable option. I also wouldn't mind seeing Torri Hunter in CF, since MN is willing to trade him.

06 line up
C - Jason Varitek
1b - Paul Konerko
2b - Dustin Pedroia
3b - Kevin Youkilis
SS - Edgar Renteria
LF - Manny Ramirez
CF - Torri Hunter
RF - Trot Nixon

I think they would have promoted Josh Byrnes to GM if they had known Theo was going to reject the deal. Now they are gonna be screwed.

The more I think about it, the more I think that Luccino wanted Epstein out as GM all this time. Shaugnessy's just Luccino's lackey, and if there wasn't any reason in the past for BostonGlobe/Red sox conspiracy this is it.

Dan wrote that Epstein resented Luccino getting credit, but by most accounts from fans and media was that Theo was the Boy Wonder and got far more credit than Luccino. The article truly showed Luccino's real motives and resentment of Epstein, it was payback.

The contract negotiations did not have to go down to the wire. Luccino low-balled Epstein the whole time and displayed his true lack of respect.

Then the Globe Article was the last nail in the coffin. If Theo stays, he has to deal with 3 more years of Shaugnessy's/Luccino's bull. Its one thing to attack players, but attacking the GM as ungrateful before the contract signing is despicable.

No self-respecting person would have signed a contract after that.

Its like on the day of your wedding, the groom calls his wife fat and ugly!

Larry "skeletor" never wanted Theo back but didn't want the bad PR or upset RSN by not giving a fair offer. When Theo pushed and got the 1.5 million and more power, Larry sent Shaugnessy on Theo, knowing that it would (1) undermine Epstein for the next 3 years or (2) force Epstein to quit.

Now the PR fallout falls equally on Epstein (for quitting) and Luccino/Shaugnessy for being a dik.

Sox pull off another one. I've always been a player over team person because teams will always try to screw the players. Luccino runs the team like an ungrateful penny-pincher. This is what he wants and he got it. I bet he'll have more profit this year with the new AAA players.

I like Damon and hopefully he'll pull off some sabatoge during the playoffs!

For the love of god I hope the sox don't bring back clemens. He'll suck it up and fake a groin/knee injury just like the good old days.

OMG its LFG
