How Do I Make Multiple Pictures One Picture?

I have Adobe Photoshop and I was wondering if anyone knows how I could get two pictures to make one icon or banner. You know, puting them together.
Kindof like abbykitty's banners.
Or Lost In His Eyes's icon and banner.

I don't know how to do it in Adobe Photoshop since I don't use that program. But I can give you basic instructions:

If your icons are 100 x 100, and you want to line up 4 in a row (5 stretches the margins, but it's *technically* allowed) open up a blank image that is 400 x 100 (since you'll line up 4 100 x 100 icons, so it will be 400 wide and 100 in height).

Then you paste each icon as a new layer on the 400 x 100 picture. Then you line them up and save.

I didn't make these icons. Paint Shop Pro 7 and 9 is what I use though.
