Looking for a little romance? A little excitement? A little danger?
Does your love life need some spice? Could your intellect use a little stimulation? Does your humor need the perfect foil? Do you suffer from aggression you just can't seem to shake? We have the place for you and anger management isn't required!
Think you have what it takes to fit in with the bad boys and girls? Come join us in...
The Basement!
The Basement has moved here. (http://p097.ezboard.com/bthebasement82697)
You guys know we're gone - if you're wondering where we are follow the link to a paradise of unparalleled proportions. We do what we want; we say what we want and we post every topic imaginable.
The Basement is a rough and tumble place where some Lost fans (including members and former members of this board), uhm... let off some steam. We have a forum for every interest, a guy for every girl, a girl for every guy and even occasionally talk about Lost (though not too often).
Most forums can be viewed by non-members and chat is open to anyone, so if you have questions you can drop in there. Besides we want to check you out. So pop in, answer a couple questions (i.e., get interrogated until you cry uncle) and see if you have what it takes.
Only those who have applied for membership and been accepted for membership in the Basement board can view all forums and post. Again, if there are any problems, the Basement chat is open and we'll be happy to keep you posted on the status of your entrance exam.
Come visit us in the Basement.
The Basement: Home Crap Home.
(set the traps, Morb, hopefully they'll follow me home)

My Thoughts:
You basement dwellers never talked about 'Lost' on THIS website. Which, I for one, could never understand. I hope that you are all happier now - I know that I am. Thanks for taking your immature bullcrap elsewhere.
Now I get to make myself a liar! :) See below.

First of all, you have a lot of nerve to tell me not to bring this up again. This is the first time that I have ever mentioned it. Secondly, I would never lower myself to the standards on their board. Which is exactly why I am glad to see them go - they lowered the expectations of THIS board by their dimwitted commentary. I have no problem personally with any of them - but, I DO have a problem with them coming back here. Once you are gone, stay GONE !

Well, a few points I'd like to make.
I was on this board before even the Lostaways forum was created. I and many other morlocks participated in General and T&S, Spoilers, and in the character forums. As time went on, many of us original posters formed bonds, mostly in chat, but on the forums as well, that led to playfulness which led to the creation of Lostaways, and the shenanigans that went on there led to the Basement.
While I posted in these new forums as well, I continued to post elsewhere as I had in the beginning. While many Basement folks stayed primarily in the Basement after it was created, one of the main reasons they did so was in part due to the 'lower level of quality' that was being displayed by the influx of new posters, especially after the hiatus. Much of the frustration on the dwellers part, from my perspective, was with the last few thousand new members being allowed to post willy-nilly, with seemingly little enforcement of the rules of posting, but when Basement folk 'came upstairs' suddenly everything we posted was scrutinized. So this 'us/them' sense was not entirely a one-sided attitude on the dwellers part.
Yes, at times they could get out of hand. And yes, some of them are pains in the asses. But most of us cared about this board and the rules as well. And we did try to set examples of how to post well and to support the board and the show. But over time, it became easier to lay all problems at the landing of the Basement. And I can't tell you how many times I personally got slapped for trying to keep the chaos to a minimum and then get told I am causing chaos. All because I posted in the Basement and not just upstairs exclusively. And I was not the only one to have this happen to them.
Now I don't think you can make a successful argument that I am dim-witted, so it was obvious to me that there were two sets of standards developing. Two sets of rules. Which still would have been tolerable if the applications of those rules was even, but from my perspective, newbies and non-Basement members were given every benefit of the doubt and dwellers assumed guilty first. Now you will disagree and that is fine. I've already had this argument with mods and others and nothing further really needs to be said about all that, but the point of all this is, there wasn't a 'Light side' and a 'Dark side' in this whole mess, but it did lead to more problems. These problems, in my opinion, developed because it was easier to blame than to fix, until things got to the point that blaming no longer satisfied but by then the only fix that would satisfy the majority, was to split off.
You are right that the Basement folks weren't always the easiest to deal with, but I personally feel something was lost by this split, not gained. My hope now is that others will grow and develop to replace those folks that have been lost, to make this board as rollickingly entertaining as it has been, but the assertion that the Basement folks brought this site down is wrong. I would like to point out that MOST of the media attention this board has gotten has been due to threads started by people who became or were Basement dwellers. So to claim Basement people lowered this board when they actually have done good for it, is not historically accurate (that is polite talk for "bunch of crap" ). Many wonderful things were lost this past month, and the sad thing is no one will know that and so it will be very easy to lay all the bad at their feet as their is little of the good salvaged. But for all the bad and trouble we may be accountable for, the good outweighed it 10 to 1 in my opinion, and I think had the threads not been lost, I could easily prove that. Unfortunately, that will now never be possible.
I realize many people never cared for the Basement and do not mourn its passing. And yes, because of the acrimony that led to the split, some do need to stay there and some do need to stay here. That is fine. I look forward to the changes here and the upcoming season of Lost to continue discussing and thinking about the show. Yet the people who left did care about this place and to say they lowered expectations here is a crock of fecal matter. Now, you think you can do better, make it better, fine. Have at I say. I shall do my part to raise the standard as well, but it was NEVER lowered because of them.
But don't even think to tell me I've got to be either here or there when I've been in both places this entire time supporting both places. Even I am not that arrogant.

Chance - While I do appreciate your thoughtful analysis of the situation, I have to continue to respectfully disagree with your logic. I joined the board in late 2004/ early 2005 - I do not remember the exact date. But, I have been here long enough to see the damage caused by what someone above called "playfulness" on the part of the basement folks.
When the morlocks took the time to post with the rest of us, they usually highjacked threads with their nonsense or insulted posters who did not deserve it - especially newbies. How do you attract quality posters with this sort of behavior ? Quite simply, you don't - when the morlocks post at a third grade intelligence level, then that is the type of poster who will be attracted to this site in the long run. I will take quality over quantity any day of the week.
Finally, while some of the basement folk came up with a handful of intelligent theories in the past, does this outweigh 20,000 posts of bullcrap ? I don't think so - and speaking of arrogant, what about all the threads about morlocks being "legends" - that is just laughable.

- and speaking of arrogant, what about all the threads about morlocks being "legends" - that is just laughableWell, actually, those were meant to be laughable.
And I still stand by my earlier assertions that they made good contributions even as I can agree to some of your assertions of bad ones. As for the 3rd grade crack, I could argue they posted at that level not because they were incapable of posting at a "higher" grade level but because the readers were incapable of reading at a higher grade level and they were merely playing to their readers, but I will let that one slide I think.
I have no problem with folks thinking they caused problems and things might be better served with them gone. I do have a problem with saying they caused ALL the problems and now it'll be Utopian now that they (well, most of us) are gone.
My argument has ALWAYS been (regarding the quality posters everyone seems to claim are wanted and desired) that to get this quality, you have to cultivate and nurture it. And to do that, you have to lock/move/redirect threads, chastise posters for disrupting threads because they don't like the poster or the thread, and at times even delete duplicates. To allow over 20 iterations of 'the numbers' is insane and causes more problems in my opinions than the dwellers ever did.
And spare me the notion of 'freedom of speech' or 'stifling free thought' as these are simply arguments to justify posting crap because "I'm just as good as you are". Civilly, that may be true, but intellectually, that is simply another crock of kaka and is one of the primary reasons for moderators to exist. To keep the kaka from flooding the forums. Allowing such to flow freely is what causes problems, from my experiences here.
Now, I don't expect you to agree with me on this viewpoint. What I hope for though is you can see that others have differing viewpoints from you and yet are just as intently passionate and are as intently desirous of this board being a place where intelligent, thoughtful and thought-provoking discussions can take place. And that point of view I have to say, many more of the departed morlocks than you realize also held to that desire than did the ones you feel only propagated thread jacking or 3rd grade level banter.
As I said, we should wait until the start of the new season, but I am pretty sure there will be problems and it won't be caused by the departed ones. Perhaps then we can resume this discussion and see how your views hold in the next onslaught of mewbies.

Runloganrun: Chance is right.
As long as folk post within the guidelines of a board, there's nothing wrong with cross posting.
I swore I wouldn't do this.........really I did...........
First of all, you have a lot of nerve to tell me not to bring this up again.
Really? As much nerve as you have bringing it up in the first place? Interesting how you found it necessary to bring this up in a completely non-biased thread. It was a harmless invitation, that's all. Yet, somehow you, yeah you, managed to make this a personal issue. For that reason alone you deserve everything you get at this point.
This is the first time that I have ever mentioned it.
There's a shocker! If that's true, then why did you feel the need to do so in the first place? Like I said earlier, it's over......it's done.....why bring it up? Did you just feel the need to push some buttons or were you just bored? If the first is true, find somewhere else to do so....if the latter is true, get a dog...or a life. You provoked this so deal with it!
Secondly, I would never lower myself to the standards on their board.
Lower yourself? That's laughable in and of itself! Since you obviously don't have the ability, you couldn't go there even if you wanted to which, really, I think you want to. Jealousy is a terrible thing....really it is. Besides, you probably wouldn't last long there, ya know, if you were even able to see it in the first place.
Which is exactly why I am glad to see them go - they lowered the expectations of THIS board by their dimwitted commentary
Where are my emoticons when I need them!? :) They lowered the expectations of THIS board? Really? They were instrumental in the creation of this board and turning it into what it is today! Dimwitted commentary? - I thought you said they never talked about LOST when they were here in the first place? You realize you're trapped now, don't you? I mean, really? Do I need to continue? OK......
I have no problem personally with any of them...
Well now who's caught in a lie? Yeah, you are! :) That's almost the most inane thing you've said yet! If you don't have a problem with "any of them" THEN WHY THE HELL DID YOU START THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE? You, yes YOU, started this. Why? Hell, I have no idea. Did someone p*ss in your Wheaties this morning, or actually yesterday morning since this is when you, started this.
but, I DO have a problem with them coming back here. Once you are gone, stay GONE !
Really? Think so? So through all this you have involved everyone because you seem to have your panties in a bunch because many of us, yeah you read that right, US, post on both sites? Who seems to have the inferiority complex? Like I said earlier, jealousy is a terrible thing. I'll tell you what. I'll buy ezSupporter for you just so you can take your wonderful insight to those it's intended for and I'll even go a step further and PM you the link as if you haven't tripped over it already. Again, I'm sure they'd love to hear from you! Also, we both know this is useless because there's no way in hell you're going over there, even if you could, so can we just give up the ruse now? Just thought I'd ask.
I honestly thought this was over. Thank you for dredging up unnecessary thoughts. :)
I apologize to the LOST-TV board members who don't understand what this is all about. I can't explain it here and, really, it shouldn't be done here. Sorry. This is one of those times where, well, it just needed to be said. I also apologize to Suil and Xan as well because they're the ones who have to evidently continually deal with this!

Chance - eloquent as usual. Thank you.
Leuthen - I'm sorry you've felt compelled to be dragged into this as well but I thank you just the same.
What started as a plain little invitation for like-minded souls has now turned into a debate. I’m hoping I can end it here.
Chance, Leuthen and I are caught in the unenviable position of living in both the light and the dark. There are many others as well. It is like walking a tightrope at times, so often the less said the better. I would like to point out though that many of the basement dwellers have been extremely vital members of this message board for a very long time and have contributed to the intelligence, wit and charm of this site. They are also responsible for a great deal of its success (Chance as already pointed this out) and for luring others to post (lots of lurkers have come out and posted, admittedly drawn by the humor).
Currently many of the Morlocks are happily posting in the Basement where the humorous banter and personal relationships are enough to sustain them until the new season starts. Occasionally we talk about Lost – but not very often. The relationships between them are the primary focus over there and the friendships that have formed are enviable. There are however members currently posting here at LOST-TV. Others are planning to return when the new season starts. I am one of them.
I would like to take this time to remind you of some of the quality threads started by basement people. Their insightful and humorous additions to other threads are legendary (sorry - no other word is sufficient). Morlocks have been, and continue to be, a sustaining force for this board. There are many threads in Theories, as well as General Discussion, characters and the archives started and/or contributed to by Morlocks. True, some have occasionally been threadjacked, others have been punctuated by humor and innuendo. All have been interesting, well thought out, and bright additions to this board. These are just a couple I grabbed at random from the first couple pages. I think you’d be surprised at the basement population.

The quality of the threads is irrelevant. The quality of any thread here is irrelevant. As long as folk posted within the guidelines that's it. This is not a contest to see who is smarter and wittier.
Runloganrun: if you or anyone else has a problem with basement folk posting here as long as they POST WITHIN THE GUIDELINES,
move to another forum. Now.
This topic is now closed. It wandered from an invite to bullshit.
