The article says they had originally planned to make Sawyer a "slick, Prada-suit-wearing guy" until Josh showed his temper during his initial interview. Then they decided the bad-boy thing might be better..... Excellent idea.

Fame's a breeze for Holloway
By William Keck, USA TODAY
OAHU, Hawaii — Josh Holloway is standing under a banyan tree in a clearing not far from the shore in Kahuku, a picturesque place on an island where he works hard — and plays even harder.

It's a setting that has become imbued with mixed memories for the actor. It was in this spot, under the banyan, that as Sawyer, the bad boy of ABC's hit series Lost, he was tortured in one of last season's most memorable episodes. (Related item: More Lost clues to ponder)

"You get an emotional imprint of these places when you do something that intense," he says. "I spent two 12-hour days on my knees tied to a tree."

But not far beyond the banyan tree, he says, is a place that conjures more pleasant thoughts: "A beautiful bay where I did the scene where I came out of the water supposedly naked and caught Kate (Evangeline Lilly) looking at me." Later that night, he returned to the spot with his wife, Yessica Kumala, for some real skinny dipping. "No one caught us," he says. "It's pretty secluded."

The days of Holloway, 36, being able to slip by unnoticed may be dwindling. He has emerged as a surprise breakout in a large ensemble cast that includes plenty of memorable faces.

Lost executive producer Carlton Cuse predicts big-screen stardom, calling Holloway "a full-blown movie star."

So far, he has at least proved to be a popular magazine cover boy. One of People's 50 Most Beautiful People in the World this year, Holloway in January was one of six Lost actors on a series of collectable TV Guide covers. Holloway's cover outsold the rest by far, including star Matthew Fox's sexy mug. He was pictured on three subsequent TV Guide covers.

"We kept putting him on the cover," says TV Guide's Lost reporter Shawna Malcom, "because we'd see a bump in newsstand sales. He's the right actor in the right role."

And she adds: "And in many ways, Sawyer is Josh, this good ol' boy you'd want to sit down and have a beer with."

He's a Southern gentleman

Michelle Rodriguez, who plays new castaway Ana Lucia, sees him as a brother. "I feel like pinning him down and farting in his face. We have that kind of sibling energy." (When Holloway hears this, he laughs — hard. "That is exactly it," he says.)

The Lost co-stars with more tenure say he remains the same Southern charmer they met when the show pilot shot in Hawaii in early 2004. "He's the guy who will open doors for women, who will always carry the bags for women and make sure they feel protected," Lilly says. "It's a very endearing quality."

The Georgia-bred Holloway demonstrates just that, offering to act as guide on a 40-mile car tour of the island. Without being asked, he plays porter and deposits this reporter's luggage into the back seat of a rental car.

On the road, with Kumala along for the ride, it's clear that Holloway hasn't adopted many megastar ways. He apparently hasn't, for instance, hired a good accountant. He pulls up to a gas station convenience store for some food and drink and slips his bank card into an ATM only to find the account is tapped. He asks to be spotted a few bucks. He hasn't been going on extravagant spending sprees, he explains, just been too busy to deposit his Lost paychecks.

He also shares details about how he met Kumala, 28, a native of Jakarta, Indonesia, seven years ago at L.A.'s Sunset Room (now the Cabana Club). "I tried to run, but when it's undeniable, it's undeniable," he says with a laugh. "She gave me a slap on the shoulder, looked me up and down and said, 'Give me your number before you leave.' "

Yessie, as he calls her, came back a half-hour later and demanded his phone number but refused to give hers. "She had game," he says.

The morning after their first date, they were building sandcastles on the beach and planning their future. For their wedding on Kauai last October, they wrote what they call "realistic" vows. "There's no 'till death do us part,' because that doesn't normally happen," says Kumala, who sometimes calls her husband "Cornhusk," for his long, golden-lit hair. "If it doesn't work, we'll love each other enough as human beings to release each other."

Holloway quickly adds: "But that's our strength. We're still dating."

They talk of their belated honeymoon in Alaska, driving across the state in an RV for 18 days of fishing, cooking under the stars — and gaining weight. Holloway put on 14 pounds. "Sawyer had a big belly," jokes Kumala, who encouraged her husband to hire his first cardio trainer to kick-box off the pounds before Lost resumed for Season 2.

Just about the only question Holloway dodges: when he and Kumala might start a family.

As Holloway's island tour heads south toward Waikiki, he points out that the mounds of red clay remind him of his Georgia youth, where he roughhoused with brothers Brad, now 38, Sam, 34, and Ben, 28, all of whom work in the computer field. "My mom was a nurse, and my dad did two years of med school, so they were always patching us up," Holloway says. "We rarely made it to the hospital unless we were broken."

Break-in a 'wake-up call'

Holloway retains his affection for Hawaii, despite being robbed last month. During the early-morning hours of Oct. 13, a man broke into the couple's oceanfront Hawaii Kai home and held a gun to his head. The robber made off with cash, credit cards and their Mercedes-Benz, which was later recovered.

"It was an unfortunate incident, but it's something that could have happened anywhere. We still love living in Hawaii," he says. "We got a wake-up call, and now our house is fully secured."

Says Lost producer Cuse: "I think Sawyer might have been a little more hot-headed, but Josh handled the situation perfectly. He didn't confront the guy. He kept himself alive. You can always make more money."

And, Cuse is convinced, Holloway could have a lucrative career. He has "intelligence, immense charisma and a sense of danger — those three elements are what it takes to be a movie star."

But Holloway is proceeding cautiously. His first movie is a low-budget thriller, Whisper, due in 2006; he plays a reformed ex-con prone to rage. Most of the movie offers he has received have been copies of Sawyer. He passed on a role as a swashbuckler. And because of his TV shooting schedule, he took himself out of consideration for a role in a Brad Pitt Western and as Gambit, a character producers were considering adding to X-Men.

But "interest is definitely coming in those areas," Holloway says. "I'm looking for juicy roles in ensemble casts with veteran actors. I'm not looking to carry a movie just yet."

Until then there is, of course, Sawyer.

Holloway is eager for the character to recover from his gunshot wound and take on meatier scenes. He has been frustrated by being limited to brief scenes in a makeshift stretcher. "You show up motivated and alive and ready to work," he explains. "And as an actor, you want to work all the time."

Sawyer emerges more prominently in tonight's episode (9 ET/PT). Lilly says the Sawyer/Kate/Jack love triangle intensifies. "Something happens," she says, "that fans have been waiting a long time for."

Cuse confirms the love triangle is about to take center stage and says, "It's going to be fairly combustible."

Holloway is ready for Sawyer to be back, especially after some key scenes he filmed were axed. When the Whisper shoot wrapped, Lost producers had him keep the long-hair look he'd adopted for the film to do Sawyer flashbacks for an early-season episode. But producers felt the scenes, which showed a conniving Sawyer, didn't jell with the emotional raft scenes, so they went another route.

"I was disappointed," Holloway says, "but I was proud of the decision to fight for the integrity of the story."

Different Sawyer flashbacks will most likely air during February sweeps. Teases executive producer Damon Lindelof: "A con will definitely be involved, and we will get an understanding as to why he doesn't trust women."

Holloway also is concerned about a softening of his character. "He has done some things that are not so Sawyer-esque," he says. "He's trying to help people, and people are responding differently to him. It's too soon to let the (negativity and belligerence) go."

Lindelof agrees: "Sawyer is a guy who needs to be hated, internally. When he survives this knocking-at-death's-door, everyone will be looking at him as a hero. The fact that he is now looked at as a good guy completely destroys him."

Holloway is determined to reclaim Sawyer's edge. "That," he says, "is something worth fighting for."

I don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere but there is a full-page interview in this weeks TVGuide with Josh. He tells how ABC wanted the season to start off with a Sawyer centric episode to capitalize on his popularity. They began to film the episode but pulled the plug when the producers decided that's not how they wanted to start the season. So now it's officially the "lost - Lost episode". Pretty interesting.

Josh Holloway's Fantasy Hookup: Jessica Alba (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20010909,00.html)
TUESDAY FEBRUARY 06, 2007 07:50 AM EST

Josh Holloway

Though he's been married to wife Yessica since 2004, resident Lost sex symbol Josh Holloway still talks like a player.

Asked in the March issue of Elle with whom he'd want to be erroneously linked in a gossip column, Holloway, 37, answers, "Jessica Alba."

But she's not the only celebrity on his mind: Holloway admits that he's fantasized about older women, including Barbra Streisand, 64. "And I saw Sophia Loren [now 72] at a restaurant a couple years ago and thought, Wow, I'd still go there."

He also says he had some good pickup lines in his day: "I'm the king of them."

His best one, he says, is, "Did it hurt ... when you fell out of heaven?" Another: " 'Wow, that's a beautiful dress. I saw one just like it at Kmart.' See, you gotta make them think they're all that, and then pull the carpet out from under them."

Before he met his wife, Holloway says that in relationships, "I've done all the dumping, which is not a good thing. It's funny, because I married someone who has always done it as well. I believe I met my match."

http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2005/news/051121/jholloway.jpg
Holloway and wife Yessica

Not that he didn't come close to dumping Yessica, 29. "At the very beginning," he says, "when I felt it getting pretty serious I went, Uh-oh, and wrote the goodbye letter. But then she promptly wrote another letter that trumped it. So I stayed."

Still, asked which man on Lost he'd sleep with if his life depended on it, he doesn't hesitate: "Jorge [Garcia, who plays Hurley], because I know at least he'd cuddle me good afterward."

Whoa whoa, you Sawyer lovers take it easy before you club this lowly "Misplaced" member. :) I was quoting Mr. Holloway himself. I was just reading a really fun interview with Josh Holloway and he says that he wants his character to die but for a really good reason.

Crave Online: How would you like to see Lost end?

Josh Holloway: I want a big, bloody Braveheart battle is what I want, really. And I want Sawyer to die badly but kind of as a last thing, he does something good. You know, and chooses that.

Crave Online: Would that redeem him, in your eyes, if he died saving somebody?

Josh Holloway: Yeah. It would. Well, there's no redemption for Sawyer, I feel. He's beyond, he doesn't want it. He doesn't want redemption. He doesn't embrace it, and actually, it makes him angrier in a way because that's his power is being indifferent. When he's made to care, made to feel things, it kind of pisses him off. I mean, it's hard. Then he'll react and do something wrong so he feels better and gets his power back by wronging someone.

You can read more of the interview here: http://www.craveonline.com/filmtv/articles/04647433/i_want_sawyer_to_die.html

Taken from a recent issue of inTouch Weekly (http://intouchweekly.hollywood.com/):

Does Lost star Josh fantasize about Barbra Streisand?

YES!

Although Josh Holloway's wife, Yessica Kumala, is eight years his junior, word is the Lost star also has a thing for older women, too. It's not just talk! "I've fantasized about Barbra Streisand," Josh, 37, recently admitted to Elle magazine about the 64-year-old singer. "And I saw Sophia Loren [who's 72 years old] at a restaurant a couple years ago and I thought, 'Wow, I'd still go there!'" Lucky for Josh's wife, he's only admiring these women from afar.

ok it seems that they approached Josh for the role, but I can't find if he accepted or not....

From Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_Holloway

In May 2007, 20th Century Fox approached Holloway for a second time and offered him the role of Gambit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambit_%28comics%29) in X-Men 4 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men_4). He was the main contender for the same role in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men:_The_Last_Stand) but took his name out of the running due to his busy schedule on Lost (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_%28TV_series%29). Producers scrapped plans to have the character of Gambit in the third X-Men film shortly thereafter.

Brian

I didn't think they were doing an X-Men 4. The link above (even though it says "4") actually goes to X-Men: The Last Stand. I'm sure if there's any news about this, we'll find out sooner rather than later. Wikipedia is user updatable so anyone could have put that there. IMDb's not showing anything under X-Men 4 or under Josh's page. Hmm.

Josh as Thor in the new movie? Yes, it is being talked about here. (http://blogs.creativeloafing.com/freshloaf/2008/10/02/josh-holloway-for-thor/)

Josh Holloway for Thor!
October 2, 2008 at 5:53 pm by Curt Holman in A&E

Marvel Comics’ next superhero to get a big-screen introduction (following next summer’s prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine) will be The Mighty Thor, the Norse God of Thunder reconceived as a Superman-style do-gooder by Stan Lee, Larry Leiber and Jack Kirby in 1962. Variety reports that Kenneth Branagh is in negotiations to direct the big-screen Thor film, which has a release date of July 16, 2010. (Incidentally, Iron Man 2 is set for May 7 of that year.)

Branagh is an intriguing potential choice. As his generation’s best-known interpreter of Shakespeare for the big screen, he could deftly handle the antiquated dialogue of the Thor comics, which have more “forsooths” than a day at the Renaissance Festival. Branagh’s fluency with special effects and action scenes is a bigger question mark — he didn’t really distinguish himself with Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein — but his Henry V suggests he could bring gravity and wit to the (literally) mythic elements of the story. Rumor has it that much of the Thor script takes place in Asgard, realm of the Norse Gods. Screenwriter Mark Protosevich says:

“It’s going to be like a super hero origin story, but not one about a human gaining super powers, but of a god realizing his true potential. It’s the story of a Old Testament god who becomes a new Testament god.”

It sounds pretty ambitious for a superhero popcorn movie — more Lord of the Rings than Spider-Man. The next question becomes, who could play a convincing Thor? In the comics, he’s a strapping guy with long blonde hair, and his look includes a red cape, a winged helmet and a big honking hammer. To even approximate the comics, you’d need someone with the physique of He-Man era Dolph Lundgren, but with the vocal authority of a Shakespearean thespian.

So is “Lost” star and former Georgian Josh Holloway a crazy choice?

As con man John “Sawyer” Ford on “Lost,” he’s got charisma and presence to spare, so he’s not a lightweight. He’s big and ripped enough to meet the role’s physical requirements. And while Thor may seem to call for an actor with a fresh, sunny disposition, like Christopher Reeve in the Superman movies, reports about Prostovech’s script suggest that Thor undergoes a conversation experience comparable to Tony Stark’s in Iron Man, so an intense performance might be just what the material calls for.

Granted, he’s a risky choice. Holloway isn’t a movie star and, after Iron Man, Marvel probably will pursue actors with big-screen credibility at least comparable to Robert Downey Jr.’s. Depending on how heavily the film relies on the mythological elements, Thor will be ungodly expensive, creating pressure to cast a big-name actor. (Russell Crowe could conceivably do it, but would he?) Also, Holloway’s best known for playing an acidly witty, sardonic s.o.b., so it’s a mystery whether audiences could accept him playing a good guy. And just what does he sound like when he’s not speaking in that “Sawyer drawl” of his?

Nevertheless, Holloway at least deserves a screen test.

But the interesting thing is his voice - OK I'm sure he can lose the southern drawl but is he able to come up with the deep booming voice of, say, Kenneth Brannagh himself, or, dare I say it, Russell Crowe. (Can't stand him, pompous little f... !)

But its good that he's getting noticed. (How could you not !)

I think Kenneth Branaugh is more likely however I agree, at least he is being noticed. :)

I sometimes wonder if he hasn't done too good a job with Sawyer - he has become Sawyer (not that I'm complaining !), and its going to be quite hard for him to change his persona for his next role, after 6 years (hopefully !) of "Lost". JF has had a long and varied career and seems like he can do pretty well anything ! His new movie looks like something I will enjoy !

JF takes almost all roles. LOL He dies in most of is pics because he portrays bad guys but hey it gives him steady work. When he is the good guy well :swoon:

I don't want JH to be pigeon-holed as Sawyer. It has happened to really good actors and it is a sin. We shall see.

I always think of George Clooney. For me, he was Doug Ross. And yet, after many years in film, he went from a pretty face in romantic comedies to drama...and even an Oscar. It's possible. So, I'm rooting for Josh, as I know we all are.:)

ITA, Randy Nations, Josh has the ability to do some amazing stuff, just maybe not Thor !

Anything from the Coen Brothers comes to mind. And Indiana Jones, and all those "Romancing the Stone" type movies - "boys own adventures" if you like ! Adventure, comedy, romance - yup, thats our Josh - the possibilities are endless !

Lost: Sawyer's Having a Baby! (http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b72244_lost_sawyers_having_baby.html)

Congratulations Josh Holloway and Yessica Kumala!

Josh's publicist has confirmed to us that the Lost star and his beautiful bride are expecting their first kiddo sometime in 2009.

As you Lost fans know, James "Sawyer" Ford is the father of Clementine on the critically acclaimed ABC drama and—little-known fact—he is also the father of Matt Saracen over on Friday Night Lights. (What? Zach Gilford himself said so (http://au.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b66278_hey_sawyer_this_your_son.html)!)

Also coming up for Holloway in 2009—on Jan. 21, to be specific—is the return of Lost for season five. The fifth installment will feature the Oceanic Six struggling to return to the Island and the Left Behinders, led by Sawyer, struggling to stay alive in the face of a mysterious new threat.

The latest Official LOST videocast has an interview with Josh Holloway. Aside from the title of the next episode, there's nothing spoilerish, he's just talking about Sawyer and Sawyer's history with Juliet. At the end, Damon and Carlton answer a question from ComicCon about Geronimo Jackson.

Thought I'd put it here for Josh's / Sawyer's fans. I've always enjoyed listening to the actors talk about their characters.

Lost Reader Questions Answered!
Josh Holloway sat down with TV Guide Magazine to answer your burning questions about his time on Lost!

If you could have played any other character on Lost, who would it have been and why? —Christine
Good question! Terry O’Quinn’s character [Locke], but I don’t have the wisdom that his age naturally brings. That character’s so vulnerable and struggling off the island. But on the island, he’s such a badass. That dichotomy would be fun to play.

If you were a Lost writer, which characters would you have hooked up on the show because of the great chemistry the actors have with each other? —Chlo
Ana Lucia and Sawyer would have been a fun, volatile romance after their animalistic meeting out in the woods.

Out of all of Sawyer’s nicknames, which is your favorite? And have you ever ad-libbed any? —Robert
Stay Puff for Hurley. Mr. Clean for Locke. Slingshot Sally for Ben’s daughter, Alex. I came up with Sweet Cheeks for Shannon in the pilot. I also ad-libbed one they didn’t use. I called Ken Leung Ping-Pong when he had a grenade in his mouth!

Since playing Sawyer, have you had any nightmares about islands, being polar-bear food, bombs or time travel? —Yonomeaburro
Constantly! And I’ve had dreams of being with cast members on a boat that changes into a magic carpet.

Do you think that Sawyer will ever meet his daughter, Clementine? —Sally
Wow, I have no clue. That’s something I would like to see. Even if they don’t meet, his intention to meet her would be important to me. To see him off the island with her name and address on a piece of paper.

Please tell me you are not really going to shave off all that beautiful hair when the show is over. Are you? —D.J.
I did say I was going to shave a Mohawk in when we wrapped the last day, and I may still. Were it not for Lost, I would have changed it up by now.

Why did you let go of me and watch me fall to my death? That was not cool. I thought we had something. —Juliet
Oh, God! I prefer brunettes. Kidding! I did not let go of her. She let go of me!

There are so many things I miss about "Lost" when we go into this eight-month inter-season drought. The complex storylines, the sonic boom that accompanies the shocking pre-commercial break smashes to black, the pretty people who populate the island.

Yes, more than "Gilligan's Island" or the first seven days of "Survivor," "Lost" features the most heart-quakingly gorgeous people to ever lay their soles to sand. Jin, Sun, Boone, Kate, Jack, Juliet and Sawyer lead the charge, but Eko, Libby, Sayid, Shannon and Vincent (yeah, what?) could easily be mentioned in the same breath.
To tease the launch of the show's final season Josh Holloway brought his cavernous dimples to TV Guide magazine's winter preview issue and they've been kind enough to give us two of the snaps that didn't make the mag.
I know, if these were left on the cutting room floor, how hot are the pics that actually made it inside the magazine? Find out for yourself when TV Guide's winter preview hits newsstands Monday!

I have my own news regarding Josh Holloway.

While leaving Disneyland during its Holiday Parade, this afternoon; I had the good fortune to walk past one of the cast members of "LOST". It turned out to be no other than: Josh Holloway aka James "Sawyer" Ford!

That's right. I saw Josh Holloway at Disneyland. He was wearing a light aqua blue T-shirt and a cap. He was with his lady love (or wife) and he looked younger in person than indicated in the photo. And better looking. He was not as tall as I thought. Probably less than an inch taller than me. Then again, I'm at least 6' 3/4" tall.

From Parade Mag.
Josh Holloway: 'It's Been a Phenomenal Journey'
by Jeanne Wolf
Josh Holloway has survived for six years as James "Sawyer" Ford on Lost, but now he's facing the end as the series begins its seventh and final season tomorrow night on ABC.

The 40-year-old actor is kept almost as much in the dark about the show's mysteries as its fans, but he provided a few clues to Parade.com's Jeanne Wolf as to what viewers can expect from his character.

The old "Sawyer" is back.
"He's definitely got his faults again. He's completely emotionally destroyed and does not care about life so much anymore. However, the lessons he's learned on the island and the humanity that he's been forced to acknowledge and grow with has come into play too. That's probably the only thing that will keep him from offing himself or something."

Going to extremes.
"For me, the entire journey of Lost has been walking that fine line between discovering Sawyer's humanity and, yet, keeping his edge of anger and destructiveness. He's been through every situation possible, emotionally and physically. Sometimes, it's been scary to get in touch with his growth, especially his relationship with Juliet. I really thought the audience might reject the softer side of Sawyer we saw in that. As for what will happen with him and Kate, all I can say is they have a love that is undeniable, but maybe it must be denied."

He wasn't expecting a long stay on the island.
"When I read the pilot, I was like, 'This guy's such an ass—. I gotta figure out how to stay alive.' As a matter of fact, I remember telling my wife when we moved to Hawaii to start production, 'Don't throw away those boxes, because unless he's got another dimension, Sawyer is going to be killed quickly.'"

His personal journey.
"What can I say? My God, I've had so many life-changing experiences since the show has begun. I've gotten married. I've got my first home. We have a beautiful baby daughter. I finally feel validated as an actor. It's just been quite a phenomenal journey."

His secret pleasure.
"I like it when we do group scenes. If you position yourself just right, you're not on camera that much and you get to just cut up and have fun most of the time. I've become quite an artist at positioning myself where I'm mostly just having fun on the set all day. I loved it when I got shot and was unconscious for, like, half a season because I was getting carried everywhere."

Missing those who didn't survive.
"It's been emotionally charged when cast members that you know and care about have gotten killed off or left the show or whatever. So with each person coming back, it's been a blast like, 'We made it to another season.' We have a reunion and laugh about things and have a Mai Tai and hang out on the beach. There was some talk of starting a pool among us to guess who would be killed off each year, but we decided that would be too depressing. It was like, 'Wow, I could be on that list.'"

Wrapping up is hard to do.
"I'm glad I didn't get killed off. There's been a lot of camaraderie on-set as we come to the end. There's a lot of magic like we had during the first season, which was an incredibly magical year. I guess we're experiencing some nostalgia. Evangeline Lilly said that when it was finally over she was going to cry like a baby. I don't know if I'd go that far, but I might."

Josh Holloway talks about his experience on Lost, how it has changed his life and what plans he has for when the show ends.

Josh Holloway, sex symbol? "My wife laughs at that," the Lost star says.

by Bill Keveney, USA TODAY
HONOLULU — Josh Holloway has a theory about the mysterious island at the heart of Lost. "To me, it's a mirror to everyone's spiritual growth. It forces each character to face their demons, whatever they are, and come out the other side. Or die," he says, laughing.
For Holloway's dark con man, Sawyer, that's a lot of demons. "His survival mechanism has been anger and hate, not letting anyone in. That's the way he survives. That's the way he understands life from his childhood all the way through," says Holloway, who sat down on a day off-set to discuss Lost and Sawyer.

The hardened Sawyer has shown signs of softening over the years, working with fellow survivors even as he stung them with nicknames and sarcasm. The character moved to a new level last season, enjoying a trusting, committed relationship with Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell).

It's not the kind of shift every actor can pull off, says executive producer Carlton Cuse, who calls the "charming, lovable, dangerous" Sawyer his favorite character to write. Holloway has been able to take Sawyer "from being a rogue bad boy in the beginning to being a mature grown-up in his relationship with Juliet."

That mature relationship and softer Sawyer appeared in jeopardy in last season's finale, when Juliet was injured by a fall into a drill shaft. Worse, the fall was the result of a plan, which Sawyer had angrily opposed, by rival Jack (Matthew Fox) to set off a nuclear bomb in hopes of changing history. Juliet appeared to detonate the nuke as the season ended.

Where that leaves Sawyer and his fellow castaways, Holloway can't say, per orders to maintain secrecy. (Good luck with that. A bootleg version of a weekend Waikiki Beach screening of the first hour was posted online within hours.)

As it starts its final season, Lost likely will have to resolve Sawyer's relationship with Juliet and his still-smoldering feelings for Kate (Evangeline Lilly), which came between Sawyer and Juliet in the finale. The chemistry between Sawyer and Kate, who combine with Jack for a potent romantic triangle, has been there from the start, Holloway says.

"It was pretty much our first day of work where I shoot the polar bear and Kate gets the gun from me and then I grabbed her. The scene wasn't written that way. ... As she got close to me, I pulled her in close, and that's where it started. They said they saw sparks, so they went with it," he says.

After that — and many shirtless scenes — Holloway is a sex symbol.

"To me, it's comical. Most people who know me think I'm pretty goofy. Sex symbol doesn't cross their mind. Hippie, yeah. Completely goofball. But sex symbol, not really. My wife laughs at that."
He's flattered and knows it has professional value. But couldn't it have come earlier? "I'm like 40 now, and they want me to take my shirt off. What happened when I was 25 and just naturally ripped? It takes a lot more work to stay in shape."
