View Full Version : Sawyer's Nicknames

Black Dahlia
10-21-04, 01:54 PM
Sawyer seems to have a smart-aleck nickname for everyone. I'm sure I've missed a few, but here are the ones I've caught so far:

Shannon - Sticks, Sweet Cheeks
Kate - Freckles, Belle of the Ball, The Sheriff
Jack - Metro (politan? sexual?), Doc, Heor, Jack Ass (not sure if that counts)
Sayid - Al Jazeera, Captain Falafel, Abdul, Chief, Omar, Muhammed
Jin - Mr. Miyagi
Hurley - Lardo

Has anyone noticed any others?

EDIT: Corrected and added everyone else's contributions.

-----------------------------------------------------

Also, how about we come up with some nicknames we would like for Sawyer to use or would expect him to? I'm sure we could come up with a massive list of nicknames for the main characters, and since we're thinking with Sawyer's mind our normal boundaries of good taste need not apply, for the sake of levity. I'll try and start us out:

Boone - Primadonis, Pretty Boy, Superboy, Baywatch
Shannon - Prima Donna, Ivana, Pollyanna, Your Worship
Kate - Ripley, Patty Hearst, Mata Hari, Lizzy Borden
Jack - Marcus Welby, Freddy Mercury, Solomon the Wise
Sayid - Sinbad, Osama, Saddam, Gunga Din, Balki
Jin - Shinobi, Mr. Sulu, Fuji
Sun - Sukiyaki, Geisha, Mulan
Hurley - Jabba, Blues Traveler, Chunk
Charlie - Frodo, Dopey, Pigpen
Locke - Mr. Clean, Buddha, Dr. Evil, Dali Lama
Claire - Mary Poppins, Ellie Mae, Princess Diana (sorry, at a loss here)
Rose - Rosa Parks, Aunt Jemima, Della
Michael - Uncle Tom, Dolemite, Denzel
Walt - Lil' Romeo, Stimey, Giblet
Vincent - Lassie, Marmaduke, Ole Yeller

OK I am so mad for Sawyer and I love his character, but the more I think about it, the more Dan Kwa (the recapper) seems dead on. Which, for me a nice lefty gal, is totally scary!

OK I am so mad for Sawyer and I love his character, but the more I think about it, the more Dan Kwa (the recapper) seems dead on. Which, for me a nice lefty gal, is totally scary!

You mean it wasn't obvious to you that Sawyer is conservative?

PlaneJane22
10-26-04, 11:17 PM
Not immediately, no. But now that I think about it, he probably is.

Can't see him being too big a fan of gun control.

However, I gotta say (without getting into a political debate) that I really HATE George W.

So why am I mad for Sawyer (and it's not just looks, if it were I'd be more insane over Jack or Sayid)?

Sarahs Monkey
10-26-04, 11:24 PM
I don't think Sawyer is the same type of conservative W is. Sawyer doesn't strike me as the religious type.

The way Sawyer acts appears very testosterone based. He's got the rebel thing going for him. Ladies love that.

Jin-- Miyagi

11-02-04, 09:39 PM
He has called Kate: "the bell of the ball"
He called Sayid, "Chief"
He has called Shannon "Sweet cheeks".
He has called Jack, "Doc" and Hero

Just a few that I've picked up on.

It was when Charlie was looking for Kate and we first see Sawyer without a shirt (that's how I remember this..heh). He says something to the effect of "You just missed her. Her and Muhamad just went off into the jungle"

He also called Sun "betty"

"You gonna lecture us about lying Betty"

and Hurley he called "Steak puff"

Does anyone know what Hoss means as he's used it twice now? Is it like chief?

Sarahs Monkey
10-13-05, 04:43 AM
It's "Stay Puft" like the Dtay Puft Marshmellow Man.

Hoss refers to a big guy who is in charge because of his prowress. Jerome Bettis of the Pittsburgh Steelers is a hoss.

He called Ana-Lucia Hot Lips tonight and some name that started with an R, did anyone catch?

DohBoy
10-13-05, 03:15 PM
I heard Sawyer's nickname for Ana Lucia that started with a "B" ...

"Bitch." :lol

Hot Lips. Is that possibly a reference to the tv show M*A*S*H?

I think some of the American terms are lost on us Brits! Is hoss a common american phrase?

stormi29

"Hoss" was the name of a character on a TV show from the sixties called Bonanza. Hoss Cartwright was a big man with a sweet personality. Generally the nickname is given to large men. Hope this helped. :D

Magical Trevor

In episode 3x06 (Sand Trap), we learn that Paolo was in Australia as a caddy at the Wagga Wagga Country Club, and was fired for doing vulgar Rodney Dangerfield impersonations.

Sawyer alternates calling Nikki Lacy and Pookie, and the best line of the episode is when he says to Paolo, "I'll slack YOU off, you fuzzy little foreigner!"

Oh nothing will ever top "Avalanche" for Hurley. That has to be the funniest he's had so far. The fact that it was the episode after the shambala van ep is what made it so great. I guess it would have been even funnier if he called him that right after he got into the van to join him in the ride.

70% dangit! Going into it I thought... sure I'll have no problem with this and then I got to the Anna Lucia and Alex questions and realized that I totally spaced on most of the episodes involving either of them. Shows how interesting I found them huh?

mr. clean. for sure. was great. i love all his nicknames, not cause theyre hilarious (they r pretty funny) but cause they show his character. or something. House would be allright for jack, except jack is too normal and conventional...he needs a different kate nickname, something...that shows he cares, while still not being mushy. i guess freckles is perfect, endearing, but not too endearing, you know? i already have a standard nickname for sawyer, bit long though
my sexy jackass closet hero
but then again i'd like people to call him jimmy (james= jimmy) it would piss him off, and i lvoe him when hes angry

Hi, I'm new to the forum, so this is my first post! *yay*
That said, I absolutely loooove Sawyer. He is so witty! Here are my favorite quotes from him:

"Now that's a new low. You even made Locke take a swing at you, hell, that's like getting Gandhi to beat his kids"

and my all time fave:

"Yeah, well him says even though Pippi Longstocking and the damn Grape Ape are ideal candidates for the Dirty Dozen, I'm just going to say we might just want to bring the Red Beret" (he got Kate, Hurley, AND Sayid at once. Damn!) =-D

Brian - that was brilliant ! Now I feel like I have to go back and watch the whole damn series all over again !

Bur seriously, it also pointed out how much Sawyer has people sussed, he reads them so well, and he asks so many questions, and makes people feel accountable for what they have done. He sees people for what they are and although some of the nicknames may be unkind they are honest.

It was a sad day when Hurley made him stop ! But you can't keep a good man down !

I thought he was calling him "Plato". Hmm.

I am lmao right now. I am a freaking idiot. Thank you. Of course it was that Plato. Although, thinking he said Play-Doh....I still thought that was funny!

God, it's like singing the wrong lyrics to a song. I'm a dope.

Play-Doh is a good one though. He should use that one on Hurley.

Loved Sawyer calling Cindy the Flight Attendant "Earhardt" on the plane. It was a nice bridge to hear him using nicknames on the plane, when we heard so many nicknames on the island.
